Chapter 22 The First Mutant Subordinate
Manhattan, Columbia University.
Lynn Hall parked his Chevrolet at the entrance of the university campus, resting one hand on the window as he quietly watched the students coming and going.
A short while later, a thin young man who always walked with his head down, as if he didn't want to attract any attention, walked out of the campus.
Lynn Hall had been observing him from the moment he appeared.
Judging from his behavior and the information he possessed, this young man was filled with inferiority and insecurity.
Because he is a mutant, he feels that he is not like other people.
Furthermore, given the fear and aversion that ordinary people have towards mutants, he has been extremely cautious over the years, fearing that others might discover his mutant identity.
Watching the young man's actions, Lynn Hall shook his head, casually shoved the cigarette into the ashtray, and then pressed the horn.
The sudden sound of a car horn startled the young man.
He stared warily at the black Chevrolet in front of him, and subconsciously began to back away, as if he would run away immediately if any danger occurred.
Looking at the young man who resembled a young animal, Lynn Hall stuck his hand out of the car window and waved to him.
Lynn never expected that she would become the top psychologist in the FBI in New York.
Kelly's son has such a personality.
Seeing that there was no danger around, the young man hesitated for a moment, then approached Lynn Hall's car: "Sir, is there anything I can help you with?"
"Dennis Jensen, Kelly Jensen's son, right? You share the same last name as your mother?"
"Yes, sir. Do you know my mother?"
Hearing the handsome young man in the car reveal his identity directly, Dennis asked with a hint of wariness.
"Lynn Hall, I'm your mother's colleague. She should have told you about the invitation you'd receive to join the FBI, right?"
Hearing Lynn Hall say this, Dennis's tense emotions gradually relaxed.
However, he still didn't get on the car, but just looked at Lynn without saying a word.
Seeing that Dennis remained wary, Lynn Hall smiled, then took out his phone and dialed Kelly's number.
Once the call connected, Lynn handed the phone to Dennis.
He took the phone and spoke with his mother, confirming that Lynn Hall had not lied to him.
Dennis then returned the phone to Lynn, opened the car door, and sat in the passenger seat.
"I'm sorry, sir, you should know my true identity, so I have to be careful. After all, ordinary people are wary of mutants like me..."
"I understand!"
Seeing Dennis rushing to explain as soon as he got in the car, Lynn Hall smiled and gestured for him to relax.
As he started the car and drove away, Lynn Hall asked, "Did Kelly teach you to call me 'sir'?"
"Yes, sir. My mother said that I will be your agent from now on. With you here, I don't have to worry about my mutant identity anymore."
At this point, Dennis hesitated for a moment: "Sir, I don't know much about professional agents, but don't worry, I will definitely learn it carefully."
Hearing the slight unease in Dennis's tone, Lynn Hall said, "Don't be nervous, I don't eat people."
"I've always been a kind person, and your mother has helped me before, so you can work under me with peace of mind."
"As for professional knowledge related to espionage, you can learn it gradually."
"By the way, what is your ability?"
"Oh, as for abilities, I call them the power of nature."
Seeing Lynn Hall's gentle demeanor, Dennis relaxed slightly: "This ability poses no threat to others, but it's a great way to save your life."
"I can survive and adapt to deserts, underwater, and even in extremely cold environments."
"And when extremely exhausted, one can quickly recover their physical condition by absorbing natural energy."
At this point, Dennis said softly, "Sir, I used to hate being a mutant so much that I even had suicidal thoughts."
"So I secretly tried to end my life with drugs, but no matter how toxic the substance I ingested, it would be broken down and excreted."
"After jumping into the water, the lungs will absorb oxygen from the water through the skin, and the skin can automatically absorb heat in extremely cold environments."
"I even used a plastic bag to put over my head, but my body was still able to form a self-circulating respiratory system."
Lynn Hall raised an eyebrow when he heard Dennis say that.
This is a very useful skill!
Although this ability is not very useful in combat.
However, in terms of survival, this ability is undoubtedly one of the best ways to save one's life!
Looking at Dennis Jensen, who habitually lowered his head after speaking.
Lynn nodded slightly.
It seems I absolutely must acquire this life-saving ability!
Thinking of this, Lynn Hall glanced at his level of favorability towards him.
[Dennis Jensen, Favorability Rating 3]
Lynn Hall continued driving without making a sound.
This is a somewhat introverted and insecure young man who has little social experience and is rather "naive." With Kelly's "assistance," it shouldn't be too difficult for him to gain Dennis's favor.
As he drove back to the FBI building in New York, he saw Sean jogging towards him as soon as he entered.
"Boss, we found out. The mutant who carried out the terrorist attack at the concert is named Adam Morris, and he used to be a member of the Brotherhood of Mutants."
"According to the records, he is a Level 2 mutant, and has no other abilities besides teleportation!"
Lynn Hall took the file from Sean and glanced at it, asking as he walked away, "Another member of the Brotherhood of Mutants?"
The powerful mutant I killed recently was a member of the Brotherhood of Mutants.
Unexpectedly, it was them again this time.
"Boss, ever since Magneto was imprisoned and the Brotherhood of Mutants disbanded, a small number of mutants have started taking on bounty missions on the black market to make a living."
"This matches the information from S.H.I.E.L.D., but the intelligence department has not yet found any trace of him."
"What about the other members of the Brotherhood of Mutants? Let's start with them!"
Upon hearing Lynn's instructions, Sean's expression turned somewhat strange.
After glancing around, he whispered to Lynn, "Boss, some members of the Brotherhood of Mutants have disappeared after being captured by Stryker of the military."
"The other group is being held in S.H.I.E.L.D., and as for the members scattered outside, it seems that someone has deliberately erased any trace of their existence."
