Chapter 90 is a little scary

Sunday, South of the bridge, Harvest Church.

Kurt is about to begin his combat training, and his training time has increased from two hours to three hours. Kurt has already mastered most of the theoretical knowledge, while Melanie is focusing on combat-related matters, including systematic learning of techniques such as tracking, reconnaissance, and infiltration, in addition to hand-to-hand combat.

During his theory class earlier, Kurt showed Melanie the text Sorin had written the day before. She showed great interest and said she had never seen such a text before.

Kurt then handed Melanie the incantation to summon his own messenger, saying, "Teacher, yesterday I used a newly acquired method to create my own messenger, and these incantations were brought by that messenger."

Melanie's expression shifted. At first, she was surprised that Kurt had obtained the method, then she was slightly dissatisfied with Kurt's attempt at the summoning ritual himself, as an accident could easily occur if he wasn't careful!

Seeing the emotion flickering in Melanie's crimson eyes, Kurt smiled and added, "I prayed for the Mother Goddess's watchful eye; no spirit should dare to blaspheme against the divine in person."

Melanie swallowed back what she was about to say, paused for two seconds, and then changed the subject, asking, "Did the messenger bring it?"

Kurt was waiting for this question. He wanted to ask Melanie if she knew about this phenomenon, so he recounted yesterday's events in detail, omitting the conjectures about the starry sky and matters related to the source matter, leaving only the normal process of the contract messenger, which was equivalent to teaching Melanie this method.

Melanie paused for a moment after hearing this, then understood Kurt's meaning. She smiled like a loving mother and said, "You remind me of the children I adopted. Marcus is the youngest, but also the most accomplished. He reached Sequence Five at the age of 35—"

Seeing the weathered look on Melanie's young face, Kurt chuckled and said, "Consider this my way of thanking you for your guidance these past few weeks."

"I'll try to help Mr. Azik later, as a reward," Kurt thought. He'd try to contact him during the Hurricane General incident. Maybe he could even get a free messenger to use as a shield in a pinch.

Thinking of this, Kurt suddenly became curious whether Sorin could take him to travel through the spirit world. If so, then he could go hunting pirates at night to earn some extra money.

Melanie seemed not to hear Kurt's words and continued, "You don't think a vampire who joined the church at the age of 12 wouldn't have enough money to pay his dues, do you? I have a bunch of children waiting to take care of me—I only didn't buy a house before because I was trying to save money."

Has she been living off a salary for over 100 years? And with land whose value keeps increasing—she's certainly very wealthy. But—12 years old? In the world of vampires, that's still considered a child, shouldn't she be at home being raised by her parents?

Could it be that their entire family was wiped out by the church? — Probably not.

She slightly raised her chin and continued, "I'll pay you. How about two thousand pounds? It'll be deposited into your personal account."

Kurt pinched your temple, realizing he hadn't considered things carefully enough today.

He originally intended to reveal the knowledge intentionally and then give it away for free as a way of repaying a debt of gratitude, but now it seems like he's the one forcing a sale.

"Well, Melanie probably wouldn't think that way either." Kurt nodded with a wry smile. Judging from his teacher's tone, 2000 pounds seemed like a very small amount—his teacher must be a wealthy vampire.

As expected, vampires are generally quite wealthy unless they have some strange quirks. Although my teacher has a bad habit of sunbathing—but it's free.

After the arrangements were finalized, Melanie took the initiative to ask to see his strange messenger. Kurt, remembering that the afternoon salon was to be held at 5 p.m., simply had Melanie perform the ceremony directly.

During this time, he planned to have Melanie join him in an experiment to see if Sorin could really deliver messages "instantly," so he first summoned Sorin and "marked" Melanie.

After a gust of cold wind blew by, and under the twinkling starlight, Sorin slowly appeared in the air. She didn't speak, clutching a pen in her hand, looking at the two people in front of her with some confusion.

She was still wearing an unusually large brocade robe with intricate patterns, her long golden hair with a straight ahoge (cowlick), and her delicate yet puzzled eyes.

She seemed to be asking, "Aren't you here? Why don't you just hand the letter over?"

However, remembering the contract, she obediently put the pen away and stored it in her storage space before extending her pale, delicate hand.

Melanie witnessed her actions, confirming that Sorin indeed possessed the ability to store items.

Kurt, following Sorin's lead, explained what was happening to her, meaning she should mark Melanie with the so-called mark.

Sorin understood Kurt's intention and nodded slightly. Then she narrowed her eyes slightly and nodded again to indicate that the marking was complete.

Kurt nodded upon seeing this. He intended to send little Sorin back, but just like last time, Melanie cut off the ritual, and Sorin still didn't disappear.

Sorin looked at Kurt and said, "Uh...uh—"

Upon hearing this, Melanie immediately said to Kurt, "Is this the language? The pronunciation doesn't resemble any language I know. If I had to say it's similar, it's somewhat like a variant of ancient Elvish, but the differences are still significant. There's a fundamental difference in pronunciation—"

After hearing Melanie's professional analysis, Kurt nodded and reluctantly instructed Sorin to take out a talisman that Kurt had prepared beforehand from her storage space.

After being crushed, the language becomes mutually understood within a small area.

Kurt asked curiously, "Sorin, what's wrong? Why aren't you going back?"

Sorin frowned and said, "I've thought of a way that might help me regain my memories—I remember I wasn't in a 'spirit' state before. I feel that involving me more in your daily activities might help."

The spirit world is so boring. Even though there are many interesting things, they are usually dangerous, and you can only avoid them—I'm a little scared. This is Sorin's true feeling.

Of course, Kurt had no idea what Sorin was thinking. After considering Sorin's words and finding them quite reasonable, he nodded and said, "Then you have to come with me, otherwise you'll be in danger if you encounter some powerful extraordinary beings."

Sorin nodded, gently floating behind Kurt. Her star-like eyes curiously surveyed everything around her. Kurt felt a chill run down his spine, shook his head with a wry smile, and turned to Melanie, asking, "Shall we begin training now, teacher?"

Melanie glanced at Sorin one last time before deactivating her spiritual vision. Without waiting for the spell's effect to end, she asked, "Why didn't you use your extraordinary abilities to teach her a language directly, like Rune?"

Kurt touched the ring and said, "I'll do this when I have time. Before that, I hope her memory can be restored to some extent, otherwise a large influx of unfamiliar memories may harm her—of course, I will teach her some common phrases as appropriate."

Melanie nodded, rising to gesture for Kurt to proceed to the narrow courtyard behind the Harvest Church. She wasn't worried that Sorin would harm Kurt, after all, the covenant ceremony had been completed under the watchful eye of the Mother Goddess.
