Lord of Mysteries: Taiyi

Chapter 36 "Exposure"

East District, Tieshui Street, an alley completely shrouded in darkness.

Hugh, with his messy short blond hair, heard the words from the other side and originally wanted to take action immediately, first knock down the person who was using his body as an obstacle to block the people behind, then pull Mr. Kurt to smash through the boxes and escape.

Suddenly, everything went black before her eyes, and she felt a figure dart out from behind her. Then she saw a pair of slightly reddened eyes move a few times in the darkness. Immediately afterward, she heard the cracking sound of bones being crushed.

By the time she realized what was happening, all the gang members were lying on the ground, their necks snapped. Kurt straightened his black gloves, his eyes returning to black, a faint glint of malice remaining.

Hugh covered her mouth in alarm, but her years of experience helped her suppress the urge to run away and scream. With Fors not beside her, she probably couldn't escape...

Why would someone as capable as him hire me? This was the first thought that popped into Hugh's mind, and he was momentarily speechless.

Faced with the overwhelming absolute numerical power of the fifth energy level, the five ordinary thugs didn't even have a chance to scream before they were instantly killed.

Kurt changed his mind. He didn't necessarily have to wipe out the entire gang... He would investigate each one he encountered using methods like dreaming, find out what they had done, and then kill them as needed.

He could easily have distanced himself from the deaths of just a few people by claiming "infinite collapse"...

Kurt stared blankly at the corpses. Remembering that Miss Hugh was still nearby, he realized that she hadn't chosen the psychic abilities she had recently learned. He guessed that they were members of the Zigman Party, or possibly the Huili Party. Whichever side they were on, they were definitely not good people.

He also found that the unease he felt when killing these people was much less than last time; he seemed to have gradually gotten used to it. Because Hugh was at the scene, Kurt did not loot the bodies; a few thugs couldn't possibly have much money.

With a blank expression, he took out a "dotting the eyes" scroll, infused it with spiritual power, and then burned it away. The corpse then began to rapidly weather and rot, leaving only some ashes in the end.

After confirming that no one was around, Kurt took out some spiritual materials and set up the ritual, bowing his head to pray to the "Source Matter," concealing himself and Hugh's presence. Only after finishing this did he turn to the somewhat dazed Hugh, his expression softening as he spoke:

"Protecting students is one of the responsibilities of a teacher."

Hugh still held onto a sliver of hope that the other side hadn't discovered her extraordinary nature; at most, they'd sign a confidentiality agreement, and Mr. Kurt shouldn't harbor any hostility towards her. She feigned an exaggerated expression of surprise, like an ordinary person.

"This is...amazing! Is it a miracle?"

Kurt found Hugh's behavior amusing. Looking at the somewhat exaggerated Hugh, he knew what she was thinking and, with a mischievous smirk, said in a low voice:

"Let's get to know each other again, the Church of the Earth Mother, 'The Wastelander' Kurt Bard, and 'The Arbitrator' Miss?"

Hugh shuddered, already imagining himself being imprisoned in the church's underground as an experimental subject, and then dying alone...

She had only one thought in her mind: run, run as fast as you can.

Seeing Miss Hugh instantly lose her temper, Kurt, knowing when to stop, quickly added:

"Don't get me wrong, I won't take you back to the church. Let's find somewhere to talk."

……

In a 24-hour café in the Backlund Bridge district.

Inside a private room enclosed by a spiritual wall, the dim light from some old, dilapidated gas lamps cast Hugh and Kurt's shadows on the somewhat cramped walls.

As time flashed by, Xiu whispered in a somewhat incredulous tone:

"You mean you hired this bodyguard to appease your family, and then discovered my extraordinary abilities during the process?"

Kurt took a sip of his Southwell coffee, nodded, and smiled as he said:

"That's about it. I don't want my family to know that I've become an Extraordinary, so please keep it a secret."

Xiu nodded like a chick pecking at rice, thinking to himself: You must keep this a secret for me!

Kurt, seeing that Hugh was still somewhat restless, continued:

"However, the church has rules that wild extraordinary beings must be supervised."

"I can tell you're a kind and law-abiding girl, so would you be willing to be my informant? Of course, if you prefer staying in the basement..."

Hugh quickly interrupted Kurt, nodding rapidly again:

"I'm willing, I'm willing! What do you need me to do, or what does the church need me to do?"

Kurt crossed his legs and smiled as he said:

"Continue to 'protect' me. There may be other tasks later. Don't worry, I will pay you the appropriate compensation as usual."

Kurt felt his blood boiling. He hadn't brought enough blood today. In order to make Hugh notice his ability to conceal the red moon, Kurt had unnecessarily used his extraordinary ability to conceal the moon during that battle. Kurt didn't want to drink those people's filthy blood unless absolutely necessary...

However, Hugh's knowledge of mysticism seemed somewhat lacking; she might have simply thought it was a kind of illusion, so she didn't show enough curiosity about the battle that had just taken place.

This is probably partly because asking about someone's extraordinary abilities is considered very impolite.

Kurt hesitated for a moment, suppressing the turmoil in his blood, and added:

"I just concealed the effects of the Crimson Moon on that area, and now I need to replenish more blood... This is some of the cost of my extraordinary abilities."

He couldn't find the words to describe his desire to replenish his blood.

Would you rather I drink your blood? Or offer me your own blood?

What to do, it's a little embarrassing... Just as Kurt was considering his words, Hugh nodded knowingly. He pulled out a small roll of bandage from somewhere and placed it on the table.

She had already seen Kurt replenishing his blood in the carriage, so she understood what Kurt meant. She decisively pierced her arm with a triangular dagger and caught the blood in an empty cup.

Kurt shut his mouth and quietly watched as the blood accumulated to about a small cup, enough to last until he got home, before calling it a halt.

That's enough.

Upon hearing this, Xiu turned his arm around and skillfully took the bandage to prepare to bandage the wound.

Kurt then touched Hugh's coffee cup with his left hand, and under her somewhat puzzled gaze, explained:

"Drinking this coffee can help stop the bleeding faster."

After saying that, he picked up the cup of blood from Miss Hugh and drank it all in one gulp.

As Xiu watched his blood being drunk in front of others, his cheeks flushed slightly.

She looked away, picked up the coffee and drank it. She wasn't worried that Kurt wanted to harm her; if he wanted to do something, she wouldn't be able to resist.

After drinking it, I noticed that the small wound was visibly beginning to heal.

Hugh was secretly amazed, recalling Kurt's extraordinary ability to conceal the moon, the phenomenon Fors called the "Curse of the Full Moon," and considering that she was now practically an official. After a moment's thought, she casually remarked:

"Mr. Kurt, can your extraordinary abilities alleviate the spiritual agitation during the full moon?"

She didn't mention the curse directly, but instead hinted at it by pretending that she herself was troubled by it.

Finally, he took the bait... Kurt's lips twitched slightly. Although he didn't know if his "divine gift" could block Mr. "Door's" ramblings, his "infinite collapse" definitely could.
