Lord of Mysteries: Taiyi
Chapter 33 A Trap for His Son
After returning to his bedroom, Kurt sprinkled spiritual powder, creating a spiritual wall to isolate himself from the outside world. He then used his own spirituality to open the document and began to read it.
They discovered that Auster was indeed an extraordinary individual through the "Storyteller" pathway, and that there was a "Cult of Nothingness" that was not mentioned at all in the original work, named after mahjong tiles.
This must be the butterfly effect I caused. It's understandable that they suddenly became active in the last two months, because that's roughly when I remembered my past life and discovered the Source Matter. But why did the organization appear 100 years ago? Is the "Taiyin" they worship a Sequence 0 of the "Storyteller" pathway, or a corresponding angel, or even a saint? Or do they worship an impersonal deity? A unique being that has become sentient?
And where did they get their potion recipes? And there are still 22 Blasphemy cards... Kurt pondered these questions, but finally gave up.
Auster's potions were provided by the "Cult of Nothingness," which to some extent proves that most people in this school follow this path.
Kurt frowned and went to the window, gazing at the smog-shrouded streets. He began to ponder his relationship with this sect. It was almost certain that Leah's father was a member of the Cult of Nothingness, but when he left Backlund, Kurt hadn't yet enrolled at Backlund University, and he hadn't met Leah yet...
Remembering that he could also do divination, Kurt decided to use dream divination to find his past memories, just to be on the safe side.
Kurt returned to his desk, pulled out a piece of scrap paper, and wrote a simple sentence in Hermes.
"My memories of Leah's father, Baron Kingston."
Kurt muttered the words to himself, his mind filled with all the known information about Baron, such as the portrait the bishop had shown him.
After silently repeating it seven times, Kurt leaned back slightly, sketching a perfect circle that didn't exist in the world in his mind. He quickly entered a meditative state, relaxed his mind, and let himself fall asleep.
This is the method of dream divination. Repeat the question, remember it firmly, and then let your astral spirit roam the spirit world in the dream to receive revelation.
Everything began to blur, and Kurt felt as if he were in a state of semi-consciousness and semi-dazedness.
In the distorted and illusory world, he saw a woman with long, black hair named Lia telling him that her father had sent her some specialties from the Southern Continent, a wooden plaque with a peculiar symbol and feathers. He remembered Mrs. Lucy and the Southern Continent tea set that he had boasted about... The scene quickly shattered, and a new picture appeared: the time his father took them to the Intersea. Young Kurt glimpsed his father nodding to a man who looked just like Baron.
A moment later, Kurt opened his eyes, his mouth twitching. Barron might know his father, and maybe my father, Cole Bard, was also a member of that "Nihilism Cult"!
The aggregation had already begun! Kurt sighed, covering his face. He strongly suspected that Bill, Finks, and even Lori were members of this cult. A chill ran down his spine, and he shook his head, banishing the absurd thought from his mind. It was as terrifying as discovering that his entire family had taken out their monocles.
He then drew the pattern on Leah's wooden plaque and was shocked to find that it was an incomplete yin-yang symbol, one of the two lines of the yin-yang symbol, which was probably "Taiyin". Kurt folded the sketch paper and prepared to give it to Leah in the afternoon, asking her to find the wooden plaque and inform the night watchman.
Then, while still at his desk, he drafted a letter to Lori.
"Everything at the school went smoothly, and I felt the value of my life."
Where is the key to Father's room? I'd like to clean it for you.
"I am well, don't worry."
Kurt then straightened his suit, put on his top hat, and took his documents. As he passed Cole Bard's room, Kurt stopped, took out his sterling silver pendant, and let it hang freely. He hadn't been here since awakening his past life memories; his sister usually came to clean it.
"There is danger in the room."
"There's danger in the room..."
After silently repeating the mantra seven times, he noticed the pendulum spinning counter-clockwise, which meant there was no danger. However, Kurt didn't readily accept the divination result, fearing that something might be interfering with it.
After all, Kurt's "Infinite Collapse" has a strong anti-divination ability, so it is reasonable to speculate that the "Storyteller" pathway may have an extraordinary anti-divination ability, since Kurt's "Watchmaker" pathway can perform divination.
However, my sister often goes in to clean, so there shouldn't be any major problems.
Kurt decided to try a gentle approach first, and only resort to violence to investigate if Lori took the key or didn't want to tell him.
……
Kurt arrived at Harvest Church 10 minutes late today, but after explaining the documents and tasks brought by the Night Watchman, Melanie, wearing a simple bowler cap, forgave Kurt for being late on the first day after their appointment.
Melanie opened the document, read it, and said:
"Yes, I've captured a member of this organization. She was a little girl who wanted to go back in time to save her mother, which does align with their doctrine."
Melanie then added with great interest:
"I find their theories quite interesting and novel, with the past, present, and future as a unified whole, connected by time."
I also feel that this is very similar to a scientific concept from my past life… Kurt silently agreed, then he saw a look of doubt in Melanie's red eyes as she crossed her long left leg over her right and leaned back slightly, asking:
"Why did they specifically notify you, and not Bishop Utravsky, or rather, me?"
Kurt wasn't surprised; he believed Melanie would definitely see through him, and he had already prepared his explanation. He told his teacher his deductions, of course omitting all his speculations about the Source, only retaining the theory that he had recalled his father's connection to Baron through dream divination, and that the Church of the Night had probably discovered this.
Kurt was telling the truth, but only part of it was true...
Melanie nodded and said:
"If you encounter any difficulties, feel free to ask me first, and I will help you as best I can."
Kurt was delighted and took the opportunity to make Leah's request:
"I want to help Leah obtain the 'Lawyer' formula. What's the price for that?"
Seeing that Melanie's expression was not good, after all, pushing someone onto the path of the extraordinary is not a good thing, Kurt immediately explained Leah's experience and obsession.
"In short, I think she's prepared for this."
Melanie hesitated for a moment, then finally said:
"Okay, but I need your help with something."
"What kind of busy?" Kurt asked.
Melanie's cheeks fell, her brows furrowed, and she muttered a sullen complaint:
"When I was a mentor, Backlund was so much bigger... compared to 80 years ago."
"I almost fell into the Tasok River! I miss the sunshine! I miss authentic Fennepot pasta! I miss my big balcony! I miss the countryside of Tasoks!"
"I also need to find a place to open a detective agency, and I'll need your advice! A house too."
Are all vampires weirdos? A vampire who likes big balconies… Kurt’s lips twitched, and he slowly replied:
"That's no problem at all. How about the afternoon of the day after tomorrow? I'm going to accompany Leah to see a psychologist today; I have a big appointment tomorrow."
The large list was pointed to by Mr. Fool: "The Diary of Emperor Roselle (fictional)"... Kurt added in his mind.
Melanie nodded, then said with a sad expression:
"Yesterday I spent the second most uncomfortable nights in this cold, cramped church as I did in the cramped carriages of a steam train. It was awful."
Kurt didn't want to delve any further into this topic and changed the subject by asking:
"Where's Walker?"
P.S.: I've changed a potion recipe that appeared earlier. Because I used some extraordinary ingredients from the original work, it would make explaining it later a bit complicated, so I simply changed it. See the author's notes.
