Chapter 101 Playing the Role

Chapter 101 Playing the Role

"A high-sequence Extraordinary?" Kurt repeated in a low voice. Could it really be Bernadette? He pondered for a moment and said, "Would it cause any serious consequences?"

Wearing a brown jacket, Marcus said somewhat gravely, "There will be serious consequences, but we don't know it yet. Recently, many members of the Truth Society have infiltrated other countries from Fenneport and Rembrandt."

"They seem to be plotting something, and they've recently made contact with the aurora borealis—they seem to be looking for something."

Melanie's red eyes flickered behind her black-rimmed glasses as she added, "The Holy Church has issued a special arrest warrant for the Truth Society. But we don't know exactly what they're doing, so we suspect it will have serious consequences."

"Looking for something—" Kut nodded, then added, "Is there anything I can do to help? My extraordinary abilities in 'profile' and 'repair' might be of assistance."

My source material can also interfere with the contingency plans left behind by high-sequence extraordinary beings—what Bernadette is concerned about is probably related to Roselle, and therefore possibly to the Emperor's diary—

Even if it wasn't Bernadette's, the Truth Association still possessed the formula for the Watchmaker's Path, so he couldn't afford to be concerned. He also possessed the essence and uniqueness of this path—

What they are looking for is something that is definitely not impossible for me—I need to prepare in advance, and only by knowing myself and my enemy can I make the right response. I need to first figure out what they believe in, or the strength of the higher-ups.

Marcus nodded and said in a gruff voice, "The trail has basically gone cold. It seems they were taken away by some high-sequence extraordinary being. We initially suspect it was a saint from the Aurora Society. But we can't be certain yet."

"So you do have an obligation to know what they look like. I'll show you the portraits later. Based on the information you submitted, they are at least Sequence Seven painters." (If you can't handle them—)

Seeing Marcuston standing there, Curtie nodded and said, "I cherish the life that Mother Goddess gave me."

That means I won't be reckless, and I can even have the Mother Goddess relay a message to you—

Marcus nodded, unaware of Kurt's blasphemous thoughts, and said, "Alright, I'll be going now so as not to disturb your teaching. I need to meet with the people from the Church of Storms. The portrait is with Mom—Teacher."

Melanie gave him a shove, and Marcus scratched his head, laughed, and went out.

After Marcus left, Kurt looked at the portrait, memorized the facial features of the two men, and then began his theoretical study with Melanie for the day.

During a break from studying, Kurt asked Melanie:

-

"Teacher, how do you think I should portray the painter?"

Melanie, who was pouring blood into her hot coffee, paused for a moment after hearing this and said, "You could try painting first, or perhaps we could go back to the basics of being a painter. Why paint? What to paint? Who to paint for?"

"You can also abstract the concept of drawing, such as the tools for drawing or where to draw. As for the specifics, you'll have to figure that out yourself, since I can't sense your progress in digesting the potion."

"Besides, summarizing things yourself can reduce the chances of things getting out of control—you actually want to ask if you can ask me for leave to do the role, right?"

Melanie finished making the coffee, took a satisfied sip, and looked at Kurt, whose eyes were gradually turning red, with a hint of mockery.

Kurt paused for a moment, then laughed and said, "Indeed, I had some ideas before, but I wanted to hear your advice. For example, when I open a school, those children are my natural canvases, and my behavior and actions will naturally paint on them. The most obvious example is that most of the families I've helped have been won over by the teachings of the Mother Goddess and have chosen to convert to the faith. These are all part of the painting process."

"My next plan is to document things or phenomena that are not usually seen, and reveal them to the world—so that these paintings can have their own unique meaning."

This way, he can also play the role of the unveiler of Sequence Six—which aligns with his original intention.

Melanie nodded in agreement, then asked with some curiosity, "I knew you wouldn't be completely without ideas, so how exactly do you plan to play the role, and why did you ask for leave?"

Kurt paused for a moment, then said, "I want to experience the lives of working-class people in the East End, document them, and provide them to a newspaper, or perhaps hold a themed art exhibition—"

In the dimly lit room, the candle on the lampstand flickered, two faint shadows on the wall swayed, and the aroma of coffee, mixed with a hint of blood, wafted through the small room.

Kurt looked at Melanie, whose expression had changed slightly, and a self-deprecating smile appeared on his lips. "This way I can both play the role and make a fortune—and maybe even get some benefits for the workers."

Melanie put down the glass and said with concern, "Those places are dangerous, and—"

Melanie seemed to be considering something, and stopped halfway through her sentence. In her view, Kurt had always been a gentle and kind person. Whether it was the lovable little Carter or the 75-year-old Mrs. Saliz, Melanie could see that Kurt held the purest goodwill.

She sighed and said in a low voice, "You remind me of one of my children, whom I used to call 'little angel.' Her name was Laura. I found this little darling in a trash can outside an orphanage."

"I protected her very well. She was so kind and innocent. She would adopt stray cats and dogs, and even beg me to save a dying butterfly. She would bring food to the homeless every day."

"In the end, she was killed by those homeless men."

The story ends abruptly, and Kurt understands what Melanie is trying to tell him: not everyone is kind. She's not afraid for Kurt's safety, but rather for the shattering of his ideals and beliefs.

Kurt, his mood slightly somber, said, "I'm sorry, teacher, I reminded you of unpleasant memories."

"I understand what you're trying to say. Although I'm still young and inexperienced, I did work in the East District for a period of time."

"I know what I'm doing and I won't let these things affect me."

Melanie quickly composed herself and nodded, saying, "Then I won't say anything more. As for the learning tasks, hehe. The role-playing process is also a learning process, as long as I can learn something."

Kut nodded and said, "Thank you for your understanding. I need to prepare for a while. My sister will be back soon. I'll bring her to meet you then."

P.S.: There are two more chapters tonight. I'm having dinner with my roommates right now, and I'm taking the high-speed train home tomorrow. So the third chapter will also be a little late.

I might finish writing the remaining two chapters after midnight, but I will definitely finish them.
