Chapter 2 Departure
"Bang"
Upon arriving at the captain's cabin, the captain, looking at the cargo manifest in his hand and feeling confident he was about to make a fortune, was about to enjoy a leisurely sip of tea when the loud sound of the door opening startled him, causing his hand to tremble.
Tea spilled out. The captain put down his cup and glared at the sailor Sim who barged in.
"Damn it, Sim, if you don't have something important to say, I'll dock your pay."
"No, Captain. There are... there are people swimming towards us outside."
"What? Are there pirates?" he said, pushing Sim aside and rushing to the deck.
Seeing the captain quickly walk out of the cabin, Sim hurriedly followed behind, saying in a panic, "No... there are no pirates, there's only one person, Captain."
"What?"
"There's only one person," Sim said weakly, seeing the captain's unpleasant expression.
"Idiot, are you going to disturb my afternoon tea time over something so trivial?"
"But he swims so fast, he's almost catching up with the merchant ship."
Hearing this, the captain couldn't help but show a look of interest. "Oh? Swimming at sea can actually catch up with my ship? Interesting."
The captain picked up his binoculars and looked in the direction Sim was pointing.
Sure enough, a figure appeared in the sea, swimming rapidly towards them like a fish.
"Stop the ship"
He gave the order to the sailors.
Roy watched the merchant ship slowly come to a stop, and stopped swimming at full speed. When he got close to the ship, he climbed up the rope ladder that had been lowered.
"Hey everyone, good morning!"
Roy climbed over the gunwale, stood on the deck, and chuckled as he looked at the sailors surrounding him.
The captain pushed aside the sailor beside him and looked at the child with a naked, strong body, a grass skirt around his waist, and an innocent face.
"Hey kid, what's your name? What are you doing alone at sea?"
"Yes, my name is Roy."
As he spoke, he pointed to the Boeing Islands, "I've been living alone on the islands for three years, and I happened to see your ship passing by, so I chased after it."
The sailors around Roy were all surprised when they heard his speech.
They had traveled this route for many years and knew the dangers of the island not far away. They couldn't imagine how this little boy, Roy, had survived alone on that island.
The captain patted Roy on the shoulder with a look of concern and said with emotion, "What a lucky kid. You even know where your hometown is. If it's on your way, I'll take you home."
"Thanks, Uncle, but no need. I have no relatives left in my hometown. Just drop me off on an inhabited island when we pass by."
After hearing Roy's words, the captain showed a hint of sympathy.
He turned to Sim and ordered, "Go find this brat some clothes and get him some food."
"Yes, Captain!" Sim responded and ran off.
Roy stood on the deck, and the sailors around him sized up the boy who had suddenly appeared.
"How did that kid manage to survive on that island for three years?"
"Look at his physique, he's quite muscular."
"Haha, maybe it grew so strong by eating carnivorous plants!"
Roy paid no attention to these comments. Instead, he turned to look at the merchant ship. Well, it was well-maintained, with many boxes piled on the deck. It looked quite full.
Sim quickly brought over a sailor suit and a plate of food.
"Here, it might be a little big, but you can wear it for now."
He took the clothes and put them on; the sleeves were indeed a bit too long, so he casually rolled them up a few times.
Then, taking a big bite of bread, he mumbled, "Thanks."
The captain leaned against the ship's railing, lit a cigarette, and said, "Kid, you're a really fast swimmer. This is the first time I've ever seen someone chase a ship like this."
Roy swallowed the food in his mouth, grinned, and said, "It's alright. I had to swim to escape every day on the island, so I got used to it."
"Run for your life?"
"There are many giant man-eating plants on the island. If you run too slowly at the beginning, you'll get eaten," Roy replied nonchalantly.
The captain exhaled a smoke ring. "Looks like you're in luck."
"Yeah, incredibly lucky, haha." Roy scratched his head. "By the way, where's this ship going?"
"Sabaody Archipelago, the last island in the first half of the Grand Voyage." The captain flicked his cigarette ash. "We do some small business, transporting goods to make money. If you don't mind, you can work with us for a while, and we'll talk about it when we get to Sabaody."
Roy's eyes lit up. "Really? That's great!"
"But let me make this clear from the start," the captain said, holding up one finger, "on board, you have to work; we don't support idlers."
"No problem!" Roy patted his chest. "I'm very strong!"
The surrounding sailors burst into laughter as a burly man with a full beard walked over.
"Kid! You're strong? That won't do, we'll have to test you first."
The stubble-faced man pointed to a heavy cargo box on the deck. "Can you move that to the hold?"
Roy looked at the box, estimating it to weigh at least three or four hundred pounds, walked over, grabbed the edge of the box with both hands, and easily lifted it up.
"This one? Where should we move it?"
The sailors' laughter stopped abruptly, and the stubble-faced man stared wide-eyed.
"You...you brat!"
Roy, carrying the box, shrugged. "Hurry up and tell me where to put it."
"Cabin number three! Hurry, hurry, hurry!"
Following the instructions, he easily carried the boxes into the cabin. After running back and forth several times, he moved all the cargo that needed to be moved from the deck. The sailors praised him for his relaxed demeanor.
The captain watched this scene with a slight smile. "Interesting brat. Sim, get him a bed."
"clear!"
As evening fell, Roy sat on the gunwale of the boat, watching the sunset gradually sink into the sea.
Thinking back on the three years on the Boeing Islands, from the perilous escape at the beginning to becoming the island's overlord, although "Pea" was there to keep me company, the feeling of loneliness never left. Now that I've returned to the human world, an indescribable excitement wells up in my heart.
"Hey, kid."
A burly man with stubble walked over, carrying two lunchboxes. "Time to eat. This is yours."
Roy took the lunchbox. "Thanks, Uncle. But how much longer until we reach Sabaody?"
"Just call me Jack." The big man sat down next to him, opened his lunchbox, and said, "Sambogey? At this rate, it should be about two more days."
"But kid, Sabaody is very prosperous, but also very dangerous. It's the last stop on the way to the New World, and there are many pirates and slave traders on the island." "Don't wander off and get kidnapped by human traffickers."
"Don't worry, Uncle Jack, I'm very strong!"
"Okay, okay, but aren't you still a child?" Jack laughed heartily. "Alright, alright, finish your meal and go to bed early. You have work to do tomorrow."
As night fell, the merchant ship moved slowly across the calm sea.
Roy lay in a hammock in the sailor's cabin, listening to the snoring of the sailors around him, but he couldn't fall asleep at all.
He turned over and stared at the dark cabin ceiling.
Roy closed his eyes, and images of his desperate struggles on the island flashed through his mind. Those days, though difficult, made him stronger.
Perhaps he should find something more interesting to do.
