Chapter 63 Indifferent Audience

Chapter 63 Indifferent Audience

Northern Frost Duchy, Peak City, Governor's Mansion.

The owner of this place, Elena, a beautiful woman with long platinum hair, is sitting on a chair covered with soft winter wolf skin.

Her graceful figure, illuminated by the large crystal chandelier overhead, perfectly showcased the curves of her full breasts and long thighs.

After relaxing, Elena flipped through the front-line battle reports of the Pioneer Knights in her hand.

After learning that the town of Mole, which he governed, had been captured by barbarians on the border of Hanshui County, he was in charge of the area.

Her eyes held a hint of mockery.

Beside her, another mature woman glanced at her.

Marcia, the Viscount of Coldwater County, said in a cold tone:

"You can still laugh? You've messed up. The Mole Tribe isn't content with just conquering and expanding their territory; they've even invaded the Duchy's lands. What are we going to do now?"

Elena smiled nonchalantly and replied, "Isn't it great? These border territories have always been disobedient and closer to the barbarians than the duchy. This is a good opportunity to clean them up."

Marcia frowned.

Her tone carried a hint of reproach as she said, "I know you want to use the barbarians to weaken the kingdom's expansionist forces, but the barbarians are not under your control!"

"By shrinking the duchy's border defenses and allowing smuggling caravans to relay information to the barbarians, you will eventually bring disaster upon yourselves!"

"Mole Town is a perfect example!"

Marcia knew the reason why Mole Town, and even the pioneering territory of the Mark family's Fuler Knights, had been conquered.

That's because of betrayal!

The Golden Lamp in Mole Town, which should have been under the command of the kingdom's nobles, has long been assimilated by the barbarians.

They secretly pocketed most of the profits from smuggling.

After the arrival of the pioneer knights, in order to avoid being investigated, they chose to pass the information to the mole tribe and seek the protection of the barbarians.

The kingdom's nobles believed they could control the smuggling caravans; their arrogance, fueled by a long period of peace, blinded them.

The reason the duchy allowed smuggling to continue was that the lion's share of the profits was going into the pockets of the border guards.

But what Marcia couldn't understand was that Elena had recently tightened the border guards' defenses.

As the governor of Hanshui County, her orders directly led to the loss of control over border territories such as Mole Town, which resulted in the betrayal.

Marcia continued, "Those nobles aren't fools. After they purge the traitors, they'll find out the reason and realize that we deliberately let them go."

"The conflict between the kingdom and the duchy is bad enough, why escalate it further?"

Faced with Marcia's lack of understanding, Elena simply took out a map of the front lines and handed it to her.

"The resolution of conflicts isn't about backing down, but about who has more friends," Elena laughed. "Take a good look, do you understand?"

Marcia looked at the battle map with a puzzled expression and realized something was wrong.

Apart from the central war zone where the Agate River is located, the pioneering knights in other expansion directions, such as the Golden Sword Territory and the Central Territory, are mostly in dire straits.

The opposite is true for nobles from the Great Plains.

The expansion is progressing steadily and positively, and some have even occupied barbarian cities.

"Golden Sword Territory borders the Duchy, and its nobles have close ties with the royal family, making it a prime target for the Duchy's attacks."

Seeing that she understood, Elena added, "The nobles of the Great Plains are different. They are far enough away from the duchy and can provide important food supplies. They are the ones we should befriend."

After a moment of silence, Marcia asked疑惑地问道, "Don't the nobles of the kingdom realize that we are trying to divide them?"

Elena scoffed, "So what if they figured it out? The internal relations within the kingdom are already terrible. The nobles of the Great Plains can't refuse this benefit; they'll welcome us as friends."

She continued, "Now we need to deal with the problems in Mole Town, and luckily, a lovely duchy knight is willing to help."

She placed a letter on the table and said, "Lord Rhodes of Rivermouth Town, you met him at Dragonbreaker Fortress. I have decided that he will be in charge of the purge of Mole Town, and I need your assistance in leading the border guards."

Marcia was not happy after hearing this: "That duchy of Rothdale? He's only sixteen, isn't he? I don't want to take care of a child."

Having learned about the Duchy's attitude towards the Pioneer Knights, she naturally understood Elena's thoughts.

Since the Duke of Jianling's second son is not valued by his family, the duchy should support him.

It would be more appropriate for him to grow up and represent the duchy in the fight against the pioneering knights under the royal family than for the duchy's forces to intervene directly.

Even if a problem does arise, there is still room for maneuver between the duchy and the kingdom, so they won't fall out on the spot.

Marcia knew that the captured Mole Town was the second gift she was giving to the enemy.

She was then required to act as a nanny to deliver gifts, which made her somewhat unhappy.

He's just a sixteen-year-old kid. Even if he's hiding something at home, how much real strength could he possibly have?

Marcia even thought the child was a bit stupid.

He believed he had found the power to break free from his family and regain his freedom.

Little did they know that they had stepped into the midst of a power struggle between a kingdom and a duchy.

Furthermore, barbarian tribes are eyeing him covetously from the outside; one wrong step and he will be crushed to pieces!

Marcia said coldly, "A hybrid of Rosdale and Frostfire blood, ha! His own strength is insufficient; his noble bloodline will only make his death more gruesome. You are harming him!"

Hearing this, Elena rolled her eyes at her.

After thinking for a moment, Elena comforted him, "Don't be so unhappy. He's a very cute child. By blood, you're still his cousin."

"And do you think I want him to suffer out there? If it weren't for the circumstances, I would love to keep him at home and pamper him every day."

Seeing the twisted smile on her face, Marcia took a step back and created some distance.

"I really wish you could act like an elder," Marcia said disdainfully. "If you like him so much, why did you let those traitors pass the message to the Wolf Chieftain's tribe?"

Whether it was Mansaru's secret collusion or the fact that the Wolf Hat Man knew about the Alliance in advance and ambushed them halfway through the journey in Sarko Ice City.

Marcia knew very well that Elena had been watching all of this.

But she simply let the onlookers watch, allowing the child to fall into danger.

If it weren't for the fact that the Duke's second son had some ability and wasn't as weak and laughable as rumored, he would have died at the hands of the Wolf Chieftain long ago.

"I'm not older than you, so there's no point in you envying me," Elena said with a smile, gazing at her beautiful reflection in the mirror.

Then her pale golden eyes looked out the window at the vast, white, deep snowfield.

"You're right about one thing: the weak don't deserve to live on the snowfield. My gift has weight; he must first prove he's not a piece of trash."

"It seems not bad now. Although he is still just a vulnerable child, he does have some value to be exploited."
