Chapter 52 The End of the Fireball

Chapter 52 The End of the Fireball

"Get out of my way!"

The man in the wolf-hat, who had been rolling around on the ground in a disheveled state, leaped to his feet and roared angrily.

He spread his arms and grasped the swords of Holmes and Loren, who were attacking from both sides.

He then twisted his body again, pulling the two elite knights into the air.

His body began to spin like a fan.

The unleashed burst of violent power flung the two of them away, sending them tumbling several times like two tin cans, making a clanging sound.

The two knights' attack was thwarted, and the sound of metal shields and spears clashing followed.

One by one, the shield-wielding soldiers retreated from the front line of defense.

Spears were raised, surrounding the man in the wolf-hat.

Despite being surrounded, the man in the wolf hat showed no fear, glancing around disdainfully.

Ignoring the other two knights and the shield-wielders, his gaze finally settled warily on Rhodes.

The body is tense under high stress.

Behind him, wolf riders arrived at the perimeter of the camp.

Upon discovering their leader's precarious situation, they prepared to charge in and provide assistance.

But it was precisely at this moment!

From a distant camp, a crimson streak of light shot up and flew straight into the sky.

About half a second later, a huge fireball exploded in the sky a hundred meters high, like a second sun hanging in the sky.

The pitch-black night was driven away, and crimson firelight illuminated the earth, lighting up the area where the camp was located.

The chaotic battle came to a brief halt.

All the serf soldiers and wolf chieftain soldiers stared at the sky in disbelief, their bodies paralyzed with fear.

Many people knelt down on the spot, begging for the forgiveness of the gods.

"Is this the power of the bloodline artifacts passed down by the major families?" Rhode shielded his eyes with his hands, squinting as he looked up at the sky.

The fireball illuminated the earth, creating a visually stunning spectacle.

But in his true eyes, it wasn't actually that exaggerated.

Its power is so-so, a bit stronger than ordinary artillery shells.

They could barely blast open the five-meter-high ice wall of Sarko Ice City, but they couldn't break through the thick stone wall.

The lighting is quite good; it's equivalent to several super flashlights with 100,000 lumens each.

But it's not lasting enough.

In just a few seconds, the fireball above their heads began to dim and die down.

It's just a big firework, nothing special.

Recalling the powerful fire magic within that ruby, and seeing it being wasted like this, Rhode felt a pang of sadness and commented in this way.

Shaking his head with heartache, Rhodes raised his hand and issued the command.

Upon receiving instructions, the shield-wielding soldiers in the distance cleared a path, their eyes fixed warily on the man in the wolf-hat.

"Get lost." Rhodes waved to the man in the wolf hat, indicating that he could leave.

Charlie used the weapons from the breached city, so what's the point of fighting now?

To kill this wolf-hatted man, at least half of the shield-wielding soldiers here would have to die, and Rhodes wasn't about to do something so thankless.

The soldiers under his command are far more valuable than the kingdom's military achievements.

"This time I've lost." The man in the wolf hat stared at Rhodes, leaving his scimitar stuck in the ground.

"But next time you will be defeated by me! Look forward to that day! Then I will let you go."

After saying that, he turned and left, joining the wolf riders outside.

"Retreat! Return to the city immediately!"

The man in the wolf hat sat on his iron-spine black wolf and turned to leave.

As Charlie's fireball burst in the sky and the wolf chieftain's soldiers fled in panic, the sudden night battle finally came to an end.

The chaos lasted all night, leaving behind a mess.

As the sun rises on the distant horizon, light returns to the earth.

It was only then that the allied soldiers in the camp came to their senses.

Exhausted yet relieved, I collapsed to the ground, never before feeling so happy to be alive.

The soldiers could relax, but the Knights of the Round Table, as their leaders, looked increasingly grim.

After cleaning up the mess in their respective tents, the six men went to Charlie's tent one by one.

The postwar conference was held here.

"Okaf! Where were your Third Reconnaissance Regiment when the Wolf Chieftain attacked the camp?! Why didn't you stop them?!"

Charlie, seated at the head of the table, angrily pointed at the knight opposite him and roared.

As the commander of the Third Reconnaissance Regiment, Knight Okaf's face grew even uglier, and he slammed his hand on the table.

He growled, "Shut up, Charlie! My men are only responsible for reconnaissance; the Second Regiment is in charge of defense! After receiving the warning, it's their job to hold off the enemy!"

Seeing that the spearhead was pointed at him, Sir Bain, the commander of the Second Regiment, coughed and looked at Charlie.

"Charlie, you shouldn't have used the 'Blazing Spear'. Without it, we can't attack the city."

"Stop fucking changing the subject! If I didn't use them, all the Alliance soldiers would be dead! Where were you then? Were you dead?!"

Seeing that he still dared to criticize him, Charlie changed his tune, "Should I go outside and build you a grave right now? Our glorious blind Byrne, shall rest here forever?"

After Byrne was hit by fire, Knight Ulysses, the commander of the Fourth Regiment who was on good terms with him, suddenly spoke up:

"Well, the situation was rather complicated at the time, and I don't think we can blame Knight Byrne entirely."

As each group leader spoke, they expressed their own thoughts.

This meeting thus descended into endless arguments and blame-shifting.

Ultimately, they were all noble knights, and there was no real superior-subordinate relationship between them.

The military's system of punishing crimes based on guilt doesn't work in the alliance.

Even if a Knight of the Round Table commits a serious offense, the others, aside from reprimanding him, are unlikely to actually impose a severe punishment.

In the end, it can only lead to endless and meaningless arguments.

"Knock knock." At this moment, Rod tapped on the table.

The other five people looked at him.

Remembering that he was the one who first issued the warning and stopped the most powerful man in the wolf hat, the group decided to give him face and temporarily stop arguing.

"So, shall the siege continue?"

Rhodes asked the question that concerned him most, which was also the biggest challenge they would face next.

First, they encountered the wolf chieftain's soldiers in the wild, and tonight they launched a night raid.

Following a series of battles, personnel were counted from all sides.

The number of soldiers has dropped from more than 4,000 at the beginning to just over 2,500 now, and the number of wounded is countless.

The knightly orders led by the various pioneering knights fared no better, with a significant number of them dying.

Most importantly, how do we attack the city next?

To maintain a fast marching speed, the army did not carry large equipment such as battering rams and catapults.

To continue the siege, we can only rely on sheer numbers and casualties.

"The Wolf Chieftain's soldiers are no better off than us; their casualties will only be more severe."

Byrne from the second regiment spoke up, "This level of casualties is enough to terrify the tribes in the Ice City of Salko, forcing them to huddle inside the city and lick their wounds this winter."

Rhodes and the other Knights of the Round Table understood what he meant.

Instead of continuing the siege, he meant that the alliance had already achieved its minimum objectives.

We must weaken the wolf chieftains' forces so that they have no energy left to raid their territories in winter.

Rhodes swept his gaze across the Knights of the Round Table and saw deep weariness in their eyes.

Although no one said it outright, everyone was exhausted after losing Charlie's secret weapon and had lost the motivation to attack the city.

"Then let's stop here and retreat," Rod said, voicing their true feelings.

After a moment, the five nodded silently, all of them breathing a sigh of relief.
