Chapter 33 Different People

Chapter 33 Different People

"Hmm~ Hmph~ Hmph, the sunshine is really nice today, it's definitely a great day. Ah~, the air in the room feels so fresh now that the wild boar is gone."

River Mouth Castle, in the Baron's bedroom.

Flynn sang happily as she applied fine white powder to her face in front of the vanity mirror.

After concealing the wrinkles and blemishes around her eyes, her bright red lips moved slightly, becoming glistening and alluring.

Her mature and alluring beauty made her irresistible.

"Brother, that barbarian baron you hated is dead. You should be happy now, so why do you look so cold?"

After finishing her makeup, Flynn gazed at her reflection in the mirror, gazing at her own beautiful face with rapt attention.

After a while, she turned her head and looked at the door with amusement.

The bedroom door was wide open.

There, her cousin, the Knight Loren, stood expressionless behind the door, watching her with cold eyes.

"Mansaru is dead, and you don't seem sad at all," Knight Loren whispered.

"Why be sad? That disgusting wild boar should have died long ago. Barbarians are barbarians. I make him take three baths before going to bed, but he always reeks of that disgusting pigsty smell of the lower classes. I feel nauseous just thinking about it."

Flynn's beautiful face revealed an expression of extreme disgust, making no attempt to hide her loathing for her husband.

Knight Loren remained silent.

He was indeed hostile to Mansaru, believing that the Rorosa man was unworthy of being a nobleman of the kingdom.

But he had to admit that the other person genuinely liked Flynn.

He was willing to learn the tongue-twisting Kingdom language for his wife, recite those comical poems, and spare no expense to buy expensive art paintings from Fuxing City in order to please her.

Because of Flynn's excessive jealousy of beauty, all the maids in the castle were replaced with ugly women.

Although Mansaru was a barbarian, Knight Loren had always seen his affection and care for Flin.

The other party has only recently died, and even if he deserved to die, his own sister shouldn't treat him like this.

"Ah, the prince from the city of resurgence, I have finally waited for him. Just like in Master Arthur's painting, he will save me from the devil's clutches and kiss me passionately in that pure garden where roses bloom."

Flynn rose from her seat, the image of that flawless, handsome face flashing through her mind, her arms outstretched as if embracing someone.

She tiptoed and began to dance an elegant court dance, her face flushed with a sickly redness.

"That is not a prince, but a knight of honor from Rosdale, Sword Tomb, who has come to conquer the North," said Knight Loren coldly from the side.

"He has the noble blood of kingdoms and duchies flowing in his veins; you'd better give up that pointless delusion."

Upon hearing his words, Flynn stopped dancing and laughed nonchalantly.

"My brother, you're still so old-fashioned and boring." She went to the window and looked down at the shield-wielding soldiers below the castle.

"Just like you said, he was a pioneering knight. Now that he has killed Mansaru, he must want to take control of Rivermouth Town and install his own puppet here."

"My child, Hearst, is only eleven years old, far from grown up, and as the Baroness and the child's mother, is there anyone more suitable to take control than me?"

Flynn smiled confidently, "He will come for me. He will force me onto the bed, and I will become his woman in his throes, ruling the town of River Mouth in his place."

Her cheeks turned as red as if they were about to bleed, and Flynn's eyes gradually became glazed over.

"And you, my brother, you should help me, just like you accompanied me here thirteen years ago. I need to have my own people in this town."

After she came to her senses, she stared intently at Knight Loren.

Knight Loren avoided her gaze. "You've changed too much."

"Yes, the decline of the family has changed me so much, made me someone you despise," Flynn chuckled. "And what about Lucia, my daughter, your innocent and lovely niece? She's only ten years old. What will happen to her if no one protects her?"

As Flynn watched the Knight of Loren leave, the smile on her face gradually faded.

"Ha, what a ridiculous man. Once his weakness is exposed, he's completely at my mercy."

She knew that the Knight of Loren couldn't possibly ignore Lucia, just as she was certain that the knight would come looking for her.

Whether it's for financial gain or her beauty, the other party can't resist her.

Flynn cupped her cheeks in her hands, gazing at herself in the mirror with fascination.

"Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?"

"Ah, that is of course the beautiful Ms. Flynn; no one is more beautiful than her."

"No!"

In a simple house in Hekou Town.

Fifteen-year-old Maud stared in terror at the doorway, where a soldier was standing.

The gleaming silver armor made him dizzy, and the solemn and majestic sword at his waist instilled fear in him, who had only ever seen pitchforks and wooden sticks.

Upon knocking on the door, the knight's squire was so frightened by the boy who opened it that he trembled and took a step back to create some distance.

"I'm sorry to have startled you. I have a few questions to ask." He lowered his voice.

"What is your job in Hekou Town? How much do you earn each day?"

Following Rhodes's instructions, the knights and squires slowly, one by one.

Seeing the fully armed soldier speak calmly, Maud calmed down and, without delay, quickly answered the question.

From his words, the knight's squire gradually learned about the situation.

The serfs of these river mouth towns mainly made a living by fishing in the Hanshui River, and supplemented their income by logging and gathering for the baron in their spare time.

The fishing nets and tools belong solely to the Baron.

After the town's serfs borrowed fishing equipment, they were required to hand over 90% of their catch.

As the knight's squire listened, he glanced inside the hut, which was a tiny, cramped shed.

Below the roof beams hung several dark, charcoal-like dried fish.

Even through the door, the knight's squire could feel the nauseating, fishy stench emanating from the dried fish, making him feel dizzy and vomit.

This is a cold-water catfish, which lives at the bottom of the cold-water river and feeds on silt and debris.

When it comes out of the water, its body surface secretes a large amount of disgusting mucus with an extremely fishy and foul smell.

Even after washing and drying for a long time, it is still disgusting, like eating feces.

But it is precisely because of its disgusting taste that it is unlike the delicious salmon, sturgeon, and cod found in cold rivers.

The numerous catfish, which were disliked by nobles and merchants, became food for the serfs of Hekou Town, feeding the people there.

As the knight's squire observed the interior of the house, he suddenly noticed a head peeking out from under the covers of the simple thatched bed.

It was a girl who looked about twelve or thirteen years old, and she couldn't help but look at the gate with worry.

Upon realizing they had been discovered, they quickly and fearfully shrank back.

The knight's squire frowned, for he saw an ugly scar that covered most of the girl's face.

Maud panicked when she discovered that her sister's ugly face had been seen.

He feared that the soldiers would become angry if they were frightened by his sister's appearance.

This prompted Maud to immediately kneel on the ground, kowtow, apologize, and beg for forgiveness.

"Get up, it's alright." The knight's squire helped him up.

Before leaving, seeing no signs of adult life in the house, he put his hands in his pockets.

After pausing, he released the silver coin and instead took out a bag of loose 50 copper coins.

"This is the fee for the interrogation. Thank you for your cooperation."

Maud held the money bag, staring blankly at the soldier's departing figure.
