Chapter 31 The White Steed
Chapter 31 The White Steed
"The Baron is still unconscious. Please leave."
When the Knight of Loren saw the merchant Adlich running over again, he shook his head helplessly and could only refuse him passage.
Considering that this was the fifth time the other party had come over in just one morning.
Knight Loren, who believed he was in the wrong, offered him advice:
"Perhaps you should contact that Knight Rhodes and ask him to urge the Baron to let you pass."
The Knight of Loren's father was originally just an ordinary soldier in the kingdom. Thirty years ago, he followed "The King" William to the North to develop the land.
He was awarded a medal for his military achievements and eventually stayed in the duchy, becoming a knight lord there.
Although his family had fallen into decline after losing their territory, Knight Loren grew up listening to his father's stories.
He still cherished the honor of his knightly family and his reverence for royalty.
That Rhodes Knight was the son of the noble Duke of Swordhill, and had sacred royal blood flowing through his veins.
In the eyes of Knight Loren, since the other party dared to come to the North and choose to become a member of the pioneer knights.
That must be a highly skilled and powerful knight, leading a glorious knightly order full of experts.
Therefore, he couldn't understand Mansaru's foolish behavior of making things difficult for the other party, and just hoped that this matter could be resolved quickly.
"I've already informed that official." Adlich glanced at him and sighed inwardly.
Rumors of Rhodes' gardener circulated among the kingdom's upper nobility.
Others in the Northern Frost Duchy have no way of knowing this, and may be intimidated by the royal family's reputation.
Adlich, who works at the Sword Ridge Chamber of Commerce and is familiar with the actual situation, doesn't have high hopes.
Flowers can't be grown in the North, and it's already a miracle that the gardener knight can take care of himself while he's away; he really doesn't dare to have any expectations.
Just as the two remained silent, the sound of a horn coming from the watchtower caused the Knight of Loren's expression to change drastically, and he hurriedly rushed out.
Adlich wondered if this was related to the caravan's predicament.
After hesitating for a moment, he put some distance between himself and the other person before catching up.
The town was in complete chaos.
Soldiers ran back and forth, and the serfs in the town, driven by the enemy, picked up pitchforks and hoes, and ran towards the outermost wooden wall, preparing to meet the enemy.
Women on the street kept hiding pots, pans, tables and chairs inside their houses, then they were so frightened that they closed their doors tightly.
Because it was the war horn sounding in Hekou Town.
This means that an enemy is attacking!
"Damn it, someone tell me what's going on? Why are they sounding the war horn?"
Baron Mansarou, rushing to the wall, even wearing his coat inside out, was cursing under his breath.
He touched his crotch, and remembering Flynn's resentful look when he left, a surge of lust rose within him.
Mansaru swore that the horn had been accidentally blown by some fool.
He'll strip that idiot naked and hang him on the castle, making him regret ever being born!
"Loren, didn't you hear me? Are you deaf?!"
Seeing the Knight of Loren staring blankly out of the wall on the high platform, he angrily walked up to him.
Just as Mansaru was about to reprimand him, he suddenly saw the scene a hundred meters away from the wall, and his eyes narrowed in fear.
A group of more than thirty soldiers stood outside the wall, the armor of the leading knight stained with blood.
The surface of the armor clearly shows the metal scars left by the brutal battle.
Rhodes wasn't wearing a helmet, and Mansaru, recognizing him, was filled with doubt and confusion, wondering why this guy, who should have been dead, was here.
But what truly terrified him was the wooden pole erected in front of Rhodes.
The heads of more than seventy wolf chieftain soldiers were piled up next to the wooden pole.
Above them were the heads of six wolf chieftains and six Ironback Black Wolves, neatly hung up, their eyes glaring at him with resentment!
"Rhodes, what do you mean by this! Why did you bring soldiers here?!"
Panic made Mansaru lose his composure, and he roared in Rhodes' direction.
The conspicuous head made him realize an unacceptable fact: in the planned attack, it was not the enemy who died, but the soldiers of the wolf pack!
How could this be? Mansaru exclaimed in disbelief.
"Just two days ago, soldiers from the Wolf Chieftain's tribe, led by six wolf riders, attacked my territory," Rhodes said calmly.
The sound, however, rang clearly in the ears of the soldiers behind the wooden wall.
"They are dead, their heads hang here. Now it's your turn, Mansaru Winter, the traitor who leaked my information to the barbarians."
Seeing his own soldiers, especially the Loren Knight beside him, staring at him in astonishment, Mansaru forced himself to calm down.
"Enough!" he snapped. "Sir Rhodes, do you know what you're saying? The heads of barbarian soldiers are your glory, but that doesn't give you the right to frame a baron of a duchy. This is the land of the Duchy of Northern Frost!"
At that moment, Mansaru was actually relieved that the wolf chieftain's soldiers had been wiped out.
This way, the other party will have no evidence to prove that they colluded with the barbarians.
Given the current complex situation at Dragonslayer Fortress, the Grand Duke of Northern Frost and the Pioneer Knights maintain a fragile balance, refraining from interfering with each other.
Even if it's royalty, what does it matter? The pioneering knights wouldn't dare touch this baron of the duchy, as long as there's no evidence.
Because that was a provocation against the Grand Duke, no one could withstand that wrath.
He had no evidence, Rod watched as Mansaru drew his sword, but he didn't need any.
The snow steed beneath him received the instruction and began to accelerate with the neighing of its hooves, galloping towards the walls of Hekou Town.
"Damn it, are you crazy?"
Seeing Rhodes charge alone towards them, Mansaru gritted his teeth and roared at the surrounding soldiers, "Fire arrows!"
Knight Loren stood still, his eyes shifting uncertainly between Rhodes and Mansaru.
As for the other soldiers, they didn't know who the charging knight was, but they recognized the warhorse he was riding.
That's the white horse on the coat of arms of the Grand Duke of the Northern Frost!
For a moment, only a few arrows flew past Rhodes in the distance.
Rhodes was not surprised by this situation.
Two weeks ago, when he was in Hekou Town, he could clearly sense that Mansaru had little control over the army.
The Snowfield Horse is a symbol of the Duchy that is no less significant than the golden hair of the royal family.
In the brief moment of hesitation by the soldiers, Rhodes had already traversed a hundred meters and arrived at the wall.
Raven's Feather!
His body felt light, and the snow steed carried him into the air.
He stepped over the three-meter-high wall under the soldiers' dazed gaze.
The horse's hooves struck the ground, unleashing a dazzling flower of icy mist that caused the surrounding soldiers to involuntarily retreat and make way.
Seeing Rod rushing towards him, Mansaru, sensing the killing intent, picked up the saber beside him.
"You're all a bunch of useless trash! Stop him! Anyone who backs down is a traitor, and their whole family will die a traitor!"
Seeing the soldiers retreat in fear, Mansaru's anger reached its peak.
Rhodes had already arrived in front of him, and their weapons clashed.
"How dare you?" Looking at the blade piercing his chest, Mansaru couldn't believe he had been defeated so instantly.
His eyes were filled with resentment and hatred before he died.
He couldn't understand how the other party dared to kill him, a duchy baron, in front of so many people.
Rod watched silently as he lost his life, his father's words echoing in his mind.
If a butcher puts a knife to your neck, don't try to reason with him.
"Blade forward." Rhodes recited the family motto and drew his sword.
Mansaru's body fell to the ground with a thud.
"I am Rod Rothdale, a descendant of the Frostbite North, the knight of the white steed."
Rhodes turned around and looked at the group of soldiers around him who were holding weapons.
"Not long ago, my soldiers died in a barbarian ambush. Their deaths should have been glorious, but they were defiled by shameful conspirators."
As he spoke, the Snowfield Horse let out an angry neigh behind him.
"Baron of Rivermouth Town—Mansaru Winter, this schemer who betrayed the duchy and chose to collude with the barbarians. Now, with the white steed as my witness, I execute him in the name of the Northern Frost."
"The rest of you shall lay down your weapons and be forgiven for your past actions."
