Chapter 57 Asha'ruya

"I'd rather fight the undead all night than eat this stuff!" Mo Fan said resolutely.

Asharuya looked at Mo Fan with some approval, and just then, a withered arm stretched out from under Mo Fan's feet and grabbed his ankle.

Seeing Mo Fan being ambushed, the group quickly ate the gray garlic. However, Bai Feng did not eat it. Instead, he used his concealment technique to the extreme, so that not a trace of his aura was released. Liu Xian and Liu Ru were both vampires, which were also considered to be the same kind of undead, so they were not afraid of being attacked.

Mo Fan watched as the undead crawled out from under his feet and kicked its head off. Then, looking at the undead crawling out from the ground around him, he unleashed a mid-level 4th-tier lightning spell, "Thousand Pounds - Thunderclap - Lightning Disaster," striking the undead emerging from the ground in all directions.

Mo Fan's move drew the attention of the others, who were surprised to find that he was actually a master.

"Hey! Look over there!" The short man pointed in a direction for Mo Fan to look over.

Mo Fan looked in the direction the dwarf man pointed and saw several dark holes that had collapsed in the ground ahead. From these holes crawled out undead, and all the undead looked in Mo Fan's direction and rushed towards him.

Mo Fan thought to himself, "Good heavens!" He quickly picked up the piece of garlic he had thrown away, stuffed it into his mouth, and swallowed it.

"Ugh~" Mo Fan almost vomited.

The looks from the crowd seemed to say, "That's it?" But Mo Fan, with his thick skin, simply ignored their disdainful gazes.

When Asha's voice first broke into words, it was as beautiful as a melodious, clear song. If her words had a touch of emotion, it would have been even better. But perhaps it was precisely this ethereal quality that made people's hearts itch with desire.

"Is this often the case here?" Asha asked without turning her head.

The dwarf was flattered by Asha's question and quickly replied, "It wasn't like that before. Ever since the Sand River riot, this place has been filled with death energy. People in the city say that the undead have changed their ruler. If the supreme ruler of this earth spirit kingdom changes, this situation is possible."

"The supreme ruler?" Asha'ruya immediately asked again.

"No one has ever seen it, but everyone knows it exists. People call it the Emperor of the Dead, which is said to be the transformation of an ancient monarch after his death." The short man began to show off his cultural knowledge.

"How many years ago was your dynasty?" Asha Ruya continued to ask.

"Us?" Mo Fan and the short man muttered to themselves. So this guy wasn't Chinese after all.

"More than a thousand years, I suppose," the short man said, unable to give a specific year.

"The ruler of a thousand years..." Asharuya murmured to herself, but did not ask any further questions.

Asha's Ya didn't ask any more questions, but the dwarf took the opportunity to speak, saying, "That's right, the undead are all about age. The older they are, the more terrifying they are. Who knows what kind of monsters will be born from the death energy that has been nurtured for thousands of years?"

"These ancient emperors were really stupid. They've been dead for so many years, yet they still turn into ghosts and harm their descendants!" Mo Fan cursed.

"The tombs of kings are mostly auspicious sites, absorbing the energy of heaven and earth and eventually turning into demons and monsters, so it's normal. Everyone says that the ruler of the undead has changed, but that's a joke. It's as if they know who the previous undead emperor was. Whether the ruler has changed or not, even the undead don't know, but we living people do," the short man said sarcastically.

"Has no one ever seen the Lord of the Dead?" Liu Ru asked weakly.

"No, we don't even know the strongest mage. There were some foreigners from some supposedly Holy Judgment Academy who came to find the Lord of the Undead. They were all supposedly top-notch mages, but none of them came back alive. I heard they even became undead themselves. These foreigners are just causing us trouble!" The short man suddenly realized that Asha's Yaya was also a foreigner and quickly explained.

I wasn't talking about you.

"It's alright, I'm happy to hear the people of the Holy Tribunal doing stupid things." A hint of a smile flashed in Asha's bright eyes.

The crowd watched as the spirits ignored them, some even hurriedly dodging away, as if they could smell the stale garlic on their breath.

"Looks like this undead isn't that powerful. As long as you eat the gray garlic you mentioned, you won't be noticed by the undead," one of Asha's attendants said dismissively.

"Grey garlic is harder to find than gold. It can't be grown artificially. It mostly grows in places where the dead gather, relying on the flesh of the dead for nutrients. Only the people of Dangerous Dwelling Village know how to harvest it, and the quantity is extremely limited every year. If it weren't for my brother having half Dangerous Dwelling Village blood, I wouldn't be able to get this kind of thing for you." The short man almost cursed at the bearded men, another foreigner who didn't know anything.

"Yangyang Village is just down the hill ahead. It's just getting dark, let's rest in the village," the short man said to the group, pointing to the small hill ahead.

"The village has rules, and you'd better follow them if you want to go in," the seedling reminded everyone.

Everyone nodded, indicating that there was no problem.

The group made it down the hillside without incident, eager to see how a human village could survive unscathed in the land of the dead. However, all they saw at the bottom of the hillside was a pile of broken wood; there was no village to be seen!

Looking elsewhere, all that could be seen was a black mound of earth, with nothing but a few pitted holes!

"Are you playing us?" the bearded man said with a hint of anger.

The burly man's eyes were filled with astonishment, and he stood there dumbfounded, looking completely incredulous.

Then, as if possessed, he rushed into the village, rummaging through piles of wood.

"It looks like this is Yangyang Village, but it was destroyed at some point." Bai Feng looked at the places where the trees had collapsed, and there were bloodstains in some places, but there were no corpses. Even if there were, they would have been eaten by the undead.

The two sisters nodded in agreement, and Mo Fan followed the short man inside to check the situation.

Not long after, the three returned to the same spot. The seedling stood there blankly, slapping its face with a look of utter disbelief.

"Alright, maybe the villagers have moved away. Didn't you see there isn't a single corpse in the village?" The short man felt a little sorry for his partner.

"Yes, maybe they've moved to another village," Mo Fan said, trying to comfort them.

"Then let's go to Huacun, which isn't far from here. We originally planned to rest in Yangyang Village tonight and replenish our black garlic, but we don't have enough black garlic to last until we reach Huacun," the short man said hesitantly.

"So, we're asking whether you'll continue advancing or return to the city to replenish your supplies?"

"Let's not go back to the city, let's head straight for Huacun," Bai Feng said.

Mo Fan nodded as well, knowing that his brother Zhang Xiaohou was still unaware of the current situation.

Asha'ruya agreed to continue, and the dwarf had no choice but to follow along with the others.

"Then we'll eat gray garlic where there are lots of undead, and if there aren't many, we'll just kill our way there!" Bai Feng's words were filled with murderous intent, which made everyone's ears tremble.

Everyone looked at Bai Feng with a mixture of tension and fear. Damn, this guy usually seems so gentle and refined, but he's a real menace.

After a short rest, the group continued their journey towards Huacun.

Before the group had gone far, the sky suddenly became stormy with thunder and lightning, and dark clouds gathered, indicating that it was about to rain, or rather, a heavy rain.

"Oh no! It's going to rain soon!" The short man slapped his thigh and hurriedly told everyone to run. The others followed him, confused.

"Why are you running? It's just about to rain!" Mo Fan asked, following behind the short man with a puzzled look.

"Rain can wash away the scent of gray garlic, and once the scent of gray garlic disappears, it will be surrounded by the army of the dead and there will be no way to escape! Now even having gray garlic is useless!" The short man looked in horror at the large number of undead that were looking in his direction.

"Holy crap! Isn't that the end of us?! Tell me your solution now!" Mo Fan said to the dwarf man while using magic to kill the undead that surrounded him.

"I have a way! A few years ago we found a cave near the Qinling Mountains. There aren't many demons around there. Let's go there and wait for the rain to stop before going to Huacun," the short man said hurriedly, while also using magic to attack the nearby undead.

Asha'ruya didn't make a move, but was protected in the middle by her two attendants. Bai Feng wasn't attacked by the undead at all, and Liu Xian and Liu Ru were also considered to be of the same kind as the undead, so the three of them weren't noticed by the undead and just followed behind the group at a leisurely pace.

Just then, one of Asha's attendants spoke up dismissively, "These undead aren't that powerful!"

"You can't say that, the Land of the Dead is very eerie!" Seedling looked around in horror.

"Tch!" The attendant scoffed, and just then, a bolt of lightning as thick as an arm struck down from the sky, illuminating the entire scene of the Western Zhou Dynasty. Everyone saw a gigantic creature with eight arms attached to a fleshy, tumor-like body. Yet, on this very body was a small, delicate woman's head, which looked particularly bizarre. Its eight arms held bone knives and giant axes, and the dried bloodstains on them indicated that this was a formidable opponent.

"Why did you abandon me—why did you abandon me—" The sound that came from that small head was like fingernails scraping glass, extremely harsh and unpleasant.

"Damn it, who the hell abandoned you? Go find someone else, why are you looking for me!" Mo Fan cursed as he sensed the aura of the Great General.

"Bang! A sword and axe corpse general! A sword and axe corpse general of the Great General level! We're finished, we're all going to die here!" the short man cried out in despair.

Mo Fan summoned the old wolf to attack the nearby harassing servant-level undead, while he focused on dealing with the axe-wielding corpse general. Asha's two followers were protecting Asha and killing the nearby undead, without even thinking of helping Mo Fan.

Asha'ruya watched the battle between Mo Fan and the axe-wielding corpse general. Mo Fan was young and a top-tier mid-level mage. It would be great if she could take him as a follower.

Mo Fan, wielding both fire and lightning magic, appeared formidable, but he was indeed being chased by the axe-wielding corpse general.

Bai Feng watched Mo Fan jumping around with a meaningful look. Liu Xian and Liu Ru are already at the advanced stage of warriors. They are just protecting the short man and the seedling. These two cannot die. If they die, who will lead the way?

"Damn you, Bai Feng, come help me right now!" Mo Fan cursed as he caught a glimpse of Bai Feng watching the show with his arms crossed.

When Asha Ruya heard Mo Fan call out to this rather handsome young man (Bai Feng looked to be around eighteen years old), she also looked at Bai Feng, and was somewhat surprised to see that there wasn't a single undead near Bai Feng.

When Bai Feng saw Mo Fan calling him, he lazily stretched and said while moving his arms and legs, "Don't rush, let me warm up a bit."

"You son of a bitch, I'm about to die!" Mo Fan dodged the attacks of the sword-wielding corpse generals one after another.

Bai Feng calmly took out a Miao sword magic tool he had crafted from his spatial bracelet. It wasn't that he didn't use the Shadow Blade, but rather that the little fox Asharuya was in the intelligence business, and he couldn't let her know anything special about him. As for physical strength, it didn't matter; it was only at the sub-commander level, not worthy of being taken seriously by those arrogant powerhouses.

Bai Feng gripped the sword with both hands, lowered his body slightly, and with a stomp of his right foot, he quickly charged towards the axe-wielding corpse general, leaving a footprint where he had just stood.

Asha's mother was dumbfounded. You didn't even use magic, just pulled out a knife and went to fight a Grand Marshal-level warrior in terms of physical strength!

The axe-wielding corpse general, seeing that the two-legged sheep was about to fight him hand-to-hand, let out a shriek and swung its giant axe at Bai Feng. Bai Feng raised his sword to meet it, and with one strike, he cleaved the axe-wielding corpse general away.

Everyone who witnessed this scene was stunned. "Are you even human? You cleaved a general-level undead in two with a single strike!"

After cleaving the axe-wielding corpse general in two with a single slash, Bai Feng used the ethereal smoke step to raise his sword and charge forward again. Bai Feng continued to hack at the axe-wielding corpse general with his sword, but the corpse general was unable to retaliate.

After fighting for a while, Bai Feng felt it wasn't very interesting and he couldn't have a satisfying battle. He then integrated his killing intent into the Miao sword, and blood-red patterns appeared on the sword. A wave of killing intent and malice swept over everyone, causing them to take two steps back. They looked at Bai Feng in horror, wondering how many lives he had to kill to have such a strong killing intent.

Bai Feng unleashed the Ninefold Thunder Blade again, each strike stronger and more powerful than the last. With a single blow, he cleaved the axe-wielding corpse general into shredded flesh and bone, making it unrecognizable from its original form.

Bai Feng took the undead crystal of the axe-wielding corpse general into his hand, glanced at it casually, and then tossed it into his spatial bracelet.

Seeing the pitiful state of the corpses with knives and axes, I couldn't help but swallow hard. It was too brutal!

"Alright, let's hurry up and set off, the rain is getting heavier!" Bai Feng said to the short man, slinging his knife over his waist.

"Yes, yes, yes! Let's get going." The short man nodded like a chicken pecking at rice.

The group then headed towards the cave the dwarf had mentioned. They encountered no more troublesome undead along the way. On the road, Asha'ruya approached Bai Feng curiously and asked, "Young man, can you tell me why your physical body is so strong?"

"No!" Bai Feng glanced at Asha's eyes indifferently, and then used his Illusionary Eyes. Asha shook her head violently, gave Bai Feng a deep look, and walked away, afraid that Bai Feng would control her mind and body.

The group arrived at the cave the dwarf had mentioned. The cave was located on a cliff face, several meters above the ground, but it was no problem for the group of mages.

Asha'ruya, Liu Xian, and Liu Ru went inside to change their clothes, while Asha'ruya's two attendants guarded the cave entrance, preventing others from entering.

Bai Feng didn't pay any attention and changed his clothes outside. Everyone else saw this and followed suit, changing out of their wet clothes as well.
