Chapter 264, Section 263: Living with Milim and Ramiris

Inside the altar, after Velusad left, the pervasive chill finally dissipated.

Ramiris let out a long sigh of relief, as if a huge burden had been lifted, before noticing the frozen Great Holy Spirit of Earth and the heavily injured Light and Dark Elves.

She hurried forward, and emerald green light flowed from her hands, gently enveloping them.

When the last bit of ice melted away, and she watched as the three elves transformed into streams of light and returned to the spiritual plane to slumber and heal their wounds, she finally felt relieved.

Gu Yuan watched all this, and his tense nerves finally relaxed.

However, at this moment, Ramiris seemed to remember something, turned to Gu Yuan, her tone full of lingering fear and worry: "Don't take such risks again! You should have discussed it with me before absorbing Milim's power! If only you had known sooner—"

She stopped mid-sentence.

Gu Yuan looked at her and calmly asked, "What difference would it make if I had known sooner?"

He surveyed the ravaged altar, his gaze sweeping over the traces of the battle, before finally settling on Ramiris's worried face. "It's pointless. That's how the powers of the 'Evolvers' operate; once acquired, exposure is only a matter of time."

He paused, "But the outcome now, with you all standing by my side, is far better than if I had to bear all of this alone."

Upon hearing this, Ramiris opened her mouth, but found herself unable to refute it. Logically, it was indeed true.

"Alright, alright! All those unpleasant things are in the past!"

Milim's voice broke the brief heaviness and silence.

She hugged Gu Yuan from behind, resting her chin affectionately on his shoulder. Her warm breath dispelled the slight chill in his heart. "Now we should talk about the reconstruction of Dragon City! Since you've already acknowledged me as your friend forever, we can't stay cooped up in this underground labyrinth forever!"

She excitedly announced, as if the life-or-death crisis had just been an unpleasant interlude: "My palace has just been destroyed, so you'll have to move in with me!"

"No!"

Ramiris blurted it out almost instinctively, her voice so resolute that it surprised even herself.

"Why not?"

Milim pouted, wrapping her arms around Gu Yuan's neck and tightening them as if asserting ownership. "I'm not a child! Besides, wouldn't it be more convenient to eat whatever we want if we lived together?"

"No means no!"

Ramiris, forcing a smile, her face flushed red, finally found what she thought was a reasonable excuse, "Because—Gu Yuan is also my friend! He's been here for many days longer than you! He...he has to stay in the maze to help me!"

Milim gave an "Oh," glanced at Ramiris with her jewel-like blue eyes, then chose to ignore her and continued to describe the room she had envisioned for Gu Yuan.

"How big it will be, how much delicious food it will hold—it's like I can already see the wonderful 'cohabitation' life ahead."

Ramiris watched as Milim practically clung to Gu Yuan, completely ignoring her, and her chest heaved slightly with anger.

She didn't know what was wrong with her. Perhaps it was her dissatisfaction with Milim's obliviousness, as the scene of her being reincarnated thousands of years ago was still vivid in her mind.

Gu Yuan noticed her almost tangible look of grievance and was about to say something to ease the awkward atmosphere when he said, "It's decided!"

Milim gave him no chance, excitedly jumping off his back, grabbing his hand, and pulling him outside with irresistible force. "We're going to choose a place now! Immediately! Right now!"

Ramiris could only watch helplessly as Gu Yuan was taken away by Milim, his figure gradually disappearing into the distance in the passage.

She stood there, biting her lip hard, a resolute glint in her eyes. Then, as if having made up her mind, she quickly caught up with them, thinking defiantly, "Since that's how it is—from today onwards, I'm going to live with them too!"

"We must never encounter unexplained danger again!"

"besides--"

Ramiris's mind was filled with images of Milim's unreliable behavior and her worries about Gu Yuan.

Near the entrance to the altar, Frey waited anxiously in place as ordered.

The heavy metal collar around her neck served as a constant reminder of her current predicament and mission: to free herself from her shackles, and—

— To carry out that unspeakable task.

She kept convincing herself: for the sake of power, for the sake of her people, these were necessary sacrifices.

When Gu Yuan was pulled out by the elated Milim, Frey immediately adjusted her facial expression to make herself look submissive and harmless, and took careful steps to meet her.

However, Gu Yuan's mind was preoccupied with the resentful gaze of Ramiris behind him, while he pondered the warning left by Velusad and the troubles to come.

In her distress, her gaze swept right past Frey, as if she were nothing more than air.

His indifference doesn't mean others don't care.

tread-

Milim abruptly stopped and released Gu Yuan's hand.

She placed her hands on her hips, her azure eyes narrowed slightly as she scrutinized Frey, letting out a clear, cold snort.

"Hey! Frey!"

She spoke in an unfriendly tone, then turned to Gu Yuan and asked, "Gu Yuan, is our Dragon City like this because of her?"

Gu Yuan then turned his gaze to Frey. His eyes were calm and expressionless, yet they sent a chill down Frey's spine.

He nodded: "You could say that. So, what do you plan to do with her?"

Frey's heart leaped into her throat, and cold sweat broke out on her back.

Lord Velusad didn't mention compensation at all! Does the destruction of a city mean nothing to dragons?

But now, she is the one bearing the brunt of the anger!

Milim pretended to count on her fingers for a moment, then quickly lost patience, waving her hand dismissively: "Hmph! Fine, she has to pay compensation anyway! Gu Yuan, you're in charge of calculating! Make sure she pays a hefty price!"

"Okay, let's leave here first."

Gu Yuan picked up the conversation, glancing at Frey with a look that sent chills down Frey's spine. "This time, you'd better not entertain any thoughts of running away."

Frey felt incredibly bitter inside, but her expression could only grow more respectful.

She lowered her head, her voice gentle, as if she had lost the will to fight: "Don't worry—this time, I will not run away."

She had nowhere to escape.

However, seeing that Gu Yuan was finally willing to talk to her, things seemed to have taken a turn for the better, and Frey secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Verusad's mission has finally taken its first difficult step.

She followed silently behind Gu Yuan and Milim, like a submissive maid.

Soon after, Ramiris followed, her face showing a resolute determination, clearly stating that she wanted to move to the surface together.

Milim didn't take it seriously.

Or rather, at this moment, her mind was completely occupied by living with Gu Yuan and her longing for endless delicious food in the future.

She used her powers to awaken the severely injured and unconscious Midore, leaving all the tedious reconstruction work to the high priest, while she herself once again entangled with Gu Yuan, excitedly planning their "new home".
