I Created a Sanctuary in Marvel
Chapter 75 Logan and Charles's Meeting
Chapter 75 Logan and Charles's Meeting
With the help of the Sanctuary Consortium, Logan and his group successfully checked into one of the consortium's luxury hotels. This hotel was located next to Central Park in New York City, in one of the city's most bustling and sought-after areas.
As night falls, looking out through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the guest room, the dazzling lights of New York City resemble a cascading galaxy, creating a striking contrast with the tranquil darkness of Central Park.
Late at night, Logan sat alone on the sofa in his suite, with a large number of files and documents about the Hand beside him.
The dim light from the lamp illuminated his angular face, outlining his focused features. Unbeknownst to many, he had transformed from a solitary wanderer into a trusted pillar of the team.
Compared to the aimless life of the past hundred years, he feels that the life he has now, with its goals and the struggle to achieve them, is what he truly desires.
"Logan—"
A familiar voice suddenly rang in his mind.
Logan's eyes narrowed, and his brows furrowed instantly. How could he possibly forget that voice?
Back when he and Ye Feng were on the run, Charles had invaded his consciousness without permission, forcibly speaking to Ye Feng in the same way. He was somewhat surprised that the other party dared to contact him in this manner now.
"Charles?"
"You dare to come looking for me?"
Logan responded coldly in his mind.
"Logan, there are some things we need to talk about."
Charles's voice betrayed his weariness, as if every word had drained his last remaining energy.
Clearly, the excessive consumption of mental energy has not yet been fully recovered.
"Time and place," Logan said succinctly.
He has now grasped the mysteries of the microcosm, and the spiritual barrier he has built within his body is indestructible.
In terms of sheer mental strength, he might not be as powerful as Charles, but the defenses built by his inner universe were definitely not something that ordinary telepathy could break through.
"I'll send you the address tomorrow afternoon," Charles replied immediately.
Jean Grey's unexpected rampage had depleted his mental energy, and if it continued any longer, he would be powerless to stop it.
At this moment, he had to admit that Ye Feng's warning to him was correct.
He had erected numerous mental barriers in Qin's mind when she was young, thinking he could guarantee her safety for decades, but reality dealt him a heavy blow.
After receiving the address from Charles, Logan decisively severed the mental link.
Charles originally intended to visit Ye Feng directly, but recalling their less-than-pleasant meeting last time, and Ye Feng's already foresight regarding Qin...
Because of his foresight regarding the potential danger of Grey, he ultimately abandoned the idea.
In contrast, while Logan's attitude was tough, he was at least willing to communicate. Some messages might be more readily accepted by Ye Feng if relayed through him.
Moreover, the destructive power that Jean Grey displayed when she went berserk did indeed threaten the survival of the entire human civilization.
"What exactly is this old guy up to?" Logan muttered to himself.
In terms of actual age, he was far older than Charles, but in terms of cunning and strategy, he admitted that he was no match for him.
The following day, Logan made some arrangements for his work and set off for the address Charles had provided.
"Xavier Academy for Gifted Youngsters?"
"This is what he calls a mutant sanctuary? How naive and laughable."
Logan stood before the ornately decorated wrought-iron gate, surveying the magnificent manor before him, and let out a mocking laugh.
Even someone as powerful as Ye Feng set up multiple barriers around the Holy Domain to prevent anyone from harboring ill intentions.
Xavier Academy stands here so ostentatiously, it's as if it's announcing to the world, "Mutants gather here, welcome to come find us."
Logan found this unguarded confidence somewhat foolish.
"Welcome, Logan."
Storm Ororo was already waiting at the door, her silver hair fluttering gently in the breeze.
"No need for formalities."
"Where is Charles? My time is limited."
Logan was expressionless and spoke in a curt tone.
In fact, Ye Feng did not set a time limit for this meeting; he simply did not want to get too involved with Charles.
As Ye Feng said, Eric and Charles, as the two leaders of the mutants over the past decade, have never truly fought for the rights and status that the mutant community deserves. Instead, they have pushed the community into a deeper predicament step by step.
In contrast, Ye Feng's actions over the past year have had a vastly different impact on mutants.
Oloro sensed Logan's undisguised aloofness, but said nothing, silently leading him across the courtyard to Charles's office.
"Professor, Mr. Logan has arrived."
She gently opened the door and stepped aside to let Logan in.
"Welcome, Logan."
Charles sat in a wheelchair, looking much more haggard than when we last met. His face was frighteningly pale, as if he had aged several years overnight.
"What are you doing—"
"What happened?"
Logan looked at the other person in surprise.
The Charles before him was completely different from the image in his memory, but the lack of news reports about large-scale conflicts among mutants in recent days puzzled him.
"I asked you to come here today so that you could convey some messages to His Holiness the Pope on my behalf."
"As you know, our last meeting wasn't pleasant. But right now, the only solution I can think of is His Holiness the Pope."
Charles's voice was weak but sincere.
Logan pulled out the chair opposite him and sat down, leaning forward slightly: "Tell me about it."
"This matter concerns the level of mutant evolution."
"Logan, do you know about the different levels of mutant abilities?"
Charles took a deep breath and looked at Logan with a serious expression.
"I don't know." Logan shook his head decisively.
In the past, he was either on the battlefield, wandering in the wilderness, or trapped in a laboratory. When he occasionally stayed in the city, he mostly drank in bars and never paid attention to these theories.
"Based on my years of research and observation, mutant abilities can be roughly divided into six levels, arranged from low to high according to their potential and danger."
"These are the Epsilon-class, Delta-class, Gamma-class, Beta-class, Alpha-class, and the highest-class Omega-class."
Charles explained slowly.
He paused, then continued, "By this system, you belong to the Beta-level mutant category, with stable and controllable abilities. Eric and I, on the other hand, are classified as Alpha-level. As for His Holiness the Pope…"
"In my proposed mutant classification, he is Omega level. During our last meeting, the power within him was like a boundless, unfathomable deep sea."
"Alpha-level mutants already possess the capability to threaten the security of a nation. If we act recklessly and with all our might, it will cause an irreparable disaster."
"For example, if I were to unleash my full mental power, I could instantly annihilate the consciousness of all intelligent life in New York. And you should know Eric's destructive power better than I do."
Logan patiently listened to the lengthy theory of hierarchy, his brow furrowing deeper and deeper: "So? You summoned me here just to promote your hierarchical system?"
He acknowledged that the classification was very detailed and covered most of the mutants, but in his view it was meaningless. This practice of dividing mutants into different classes not only did not help improve the situation of mutants, but also exacerbated internal divisions and conflicts.
Perfect mutants are highly respected, possessing the power to move mountains and overturn seas, and live a life of luxury; while mutants at the bottom suffer the backlash of their powers, living a life worse than death, never knowing when they will silently disappear in the laboratory.
In this regard, neither Eric nor Charles could offer much help.
"If even mutants use this standard to categorize each other, how can we expect humans to be treated equally?" Logan thought to himself.
In contrast, the extraordinary social system built by Ye Feng, which is dedicated to perfecting mutant genes and helping them control their own abilities, is the true path to the future.
If this system is perfected, even the Epsilon-class mutants, whose abilities have the most severe side effects, will have a chance to return to normal life. This is the right way to save the race, not just empty talk about class divisions.
"Of course not."
"The real reason I summoned you is about an Omega-level mutant. Beings of this level possess power sufficient to destroy the world. If they were to spiral out of control, they could easily wipe out a country, or even an entire continent."
Charles sensed Logan's dissatisfaction and quickly got to the point.
Logan's expression changed upon hearing this: "You mean there's an Omega-level mutant in this academy?"
He immediately thought of Ye Feng's unfathomable power. Putting aside the power brought by his microcosm, the elemental blessing that Ye Feng bestowed upon him alone made him feel what true power was.
If an entity of equal power goes berserk, who can stop it?
"That's right, there is indeed one."
Charles nodded heavily.
"She showed extraordinary talent from a young age, and things have been peaceful for the past ten years or so."
"But just yesterday, she suddenly went berserk. To suppress the power she unconsciously released, I exhausted all my mental energy. Fortunately, it didn't last long, otherwise—"
Charles still looked shaken when he recalled the harrowing incident from yesterday.
"So, you want Your Majesty to intervene and restrain that Omega-level mutant if he goes berserk again?"
Logan understood the other party's intention.
"That's right."
"On Earth today, the only people I can think of capable of doing this are His Holiness the Pope and another individual. But the other one—I cannot contact him."
Charles readily admitted it.
Logan's heart stirred slightly. Was there really someone on Earth who could rival Ye Feng? This was unexpected information.
"I see."
"I will convey your meaning truthfully. But whether Your Majesty agrees is not up to me."
Logan stood up and straightened his collar.
Watching Logan's resolute departure, Charles's gaze was complex and indescribable: "He has changed so much. When we first met, he was like a wild beast trapped in a cage, but now he has become a wise man who can stand on his own."
"Pope Ye Feng—what exactly is your charm?"
