I Created a Sanctuary in Marvel

Chapter 33 Sentinel Robot

Deep beneath the walls of New York City lies a secret laboratory unknown to most.

Rows of cold electronic screens flickered, their eerie blue light reflecting on the expressionless faces of each researcher.

In stark contrast to the dazzling lights of Manhattan above ground, here there is only the low hum of machinery and the faint echo of keyboards being tapped; the heavy silence is almost suffocating.

Since the appearance of Valak, the Serpent Lord, one of the seventy-two demons of Solomon, there has been much less criticism of mutants. Some powerful figures have even begun to favor mutants.

Having long been suppressed, they suddenly had the opportunity to walk openly on the streets. Many mutants flocked to them, bowing down in submission.

But this false harmony has never dispelled the extreme anxieties in the hearts of some people.

The laboratory before us is a product of this anxiety.

On the other side of the bulletproof glass, two scarlet lights suddenly appeared in the dark space, like the eyes of a sleeping beast opening.

Then came the creaking of precision mechanical joints turning, and a three-meter-tall humanoid robot slowly straightened up. Its outer shell was made of a special composite ceramic material, gleaming with a pale, skeletal sheen under the cold light. A researcher adjusted his glasses, his voice completely flat:

"Third debugging preparation. Energy core output is stable, neural network synchronization rate is 92%."

The data stream scrolled rapidly across the main screen, far more complex than most people could comprehend. After a moment, he let out a soft breath and wiped the fine sweat from his brow.

"Alright, bug fixed. Motor coordination improved by seventeen percentage points compared to the last test."

"Not enough."

An old and hoarse voice came from the shadows.

Bolivar Trayšek, seated in a wheelchair, was slowly pushed by his assistant to the glass window. His gaze was intense, fixed intently on the mechanical creation that was gradually awakening.

"We're missing something crucial...it's not perfect yet."

The assistant responded in a low voice, "Boss, this is our limit due to the limited materials available. Over the past few years, we've analyzed the genes and abilities of a large number of mutants, and the Sentinel robots have undergone several iterations. But regarding funding..."

He didn't finish his sentence, but Trask understood perfectly. With the government gradually cutting budgets, his life's work, Project Sentinel, was becoming increasingly difficult to implement.

Although the robot in front of him was the latest generation, it was still far from being as powerful as he had expected.

Especially when facing that man who can manipulate all metal.

Because of Magneto's existence, they had to abandon all metallic materials and turn to developing high-strength non-metallic composite materials.

However, its defenses were never quite satisfactory, and in several simulated battles, it was still easily torn apart by high-level mutants.

"I'll take care of the funding. As for the materials and mutant samples... I already have targets in mind."

A fanatical glint flashed in Trask's eyes. He possessed information on several special mutants... their abilities were the keys to realizing his ultimate weapon.

"Demons? Mythical creatures? Ridiculous."

"Before science, all these things should bow down. Humanity's delusion of entrusting its fate to mutants is the most foolish choice ever!"

He gave a low, cold laugh.

His voice suddenly rose, his withered fingers gripping the wheelchair armrests tightly: "We've suppressed and eliminated mutants for decades. How could we not retaliate once they gain power? It's human nature! When that day comes... humanity will only be reduced to slavery!"

The intense emotional turmoil sent sharp pains through his head. He was old, his body riddled with problems, and he was only alive because of his wealth. But he couldn't stop.

"Some even say that mutants' power comes from gods? Where are those gods? Have they ever answered the prayers of their followers?!"

A fleeting, almost imperceptible sadness crossed his eyes, only to be replaced by a burning determination.

He must take control of the future, at all costs.

"Notify the action team." He handed two encrypted files to his assistant.

"Find these two mutants. Capture them at all costs."

"Yes, Boss."

The assistant accepted the documents respectfully without the slightest hesitation. He had followed Trask for decades; they shared the same fears and the same beliefs.

Meanwhile, in the shadows on the other side of the city, a different kind of tension permeated the Brotherhood of Mutants' stronghold.

This place is hidden underground in an abandoned factory. The entrance is cleverly disguised as a rusty hydraulic door, but the inside is a completely different world.

Mystique looked at Magneto, who stood silently by the window, her voice tinged with a rare hesitation:

"Eric, should we continue with the plan?"

She recalled her youth, many years ago, at Professor X's college. Charles had treated her like an older brother, but they had ultimately gone their separate ways.

He was born into privilege, and his abilities were a gift, not a curse; he could never understand what mutants who were homeless, persecuted, and feared had truly experienced.

So she chose Eric Lansheer, choosing resistance rather than compromise.

"We must continue."

Magneto's voice was resolute and unwavering.

"No one can stop us, Raven. Whatever that guy Ye Feng has done, whatever illusions the higher-ups have... it's only temporary."

He turned around, his eyes burning with an unquenchable flame.

"If mutants don't fight back, they will be forever trampled on at the bottom. If they do fight back... they will face even more brutal repression. It's a dead end with no solution."

"The only way out is to turn all of humanity... into us."

His voice lowered, but became even more resolute.

"But you'll die if you do that!" Raven couldn't help but take a step forward.

Eric's presence is not only a leader for the Brotherhood, but also a symbol. Without him, the mutant cause may have no hope.

"Sacrifice is inevitable."

"I've found a way."

A flicker of pain crossed Magneto's eyes, but it quickly transformed into an unwavering resolve.

He raised his hand, and a metal table not far away trembled slightly. The parts on the table floated up, forming the prototype of a complex device.

"I've found the way. With this enhancer, my abilities are enough to cover all of New York. In an instant, everyone will experience the transformation we've all gone through."

Their plan was nearing execution, but it was forced to be postponed due to Ye Feng's sudden emergence and the subtle changes in the situation. But they couldn't wait any longer.

Several high-ranking council members who wield great power and openly hate mutants... are Eric's chosen targets. He wants to turn them into the very thing he despises.

He wondered what expressions would appear on their faces when they woke up and found themselves transformed into mutants. Would they be overjoyed at gaining power? Or despairing at becoming outcasts?

The answer will be revealed soon.

The storm brought about by Ye Feng... is far from over.
