Chapter 35: Undead Creatures
The poplar grove is a large space, a medium to large-sized settlement of elves.
The buildings are mostly wooden houses built on the ground, with a few treehouses built between two intertwined trees.
In the very center of the settlement stands a giant tree with a completely different style.
As dawn broke, the firefly lanterns hanging along the roadside were no longer as conspicuous as they had been at night.
Lorne stood by the roadside, looking around. He was completely unfamiliar with the settlement.
However, judging from the elves converging towards the giant tree and the creatures fleeing from the center, something big was clearly happening in the heart of the settlement.
A burly, middle-aged male elf, surrounded by a group of female elves, hurried across a vine bridge set up on the road toward the giant tree.
Lorne had a vague recollection of it.
The guy who brought me back to the settlement, I think his name was Elar.
On the other side of the vine bridge was a familiar little girl—Mia, holding a key, running towards the outside with her short legs.
"Brother Lorne?" Mia was surprised to see Lorne standing by the roadside. "Why are you out here?"
Saving him the trouble of unlocking the door... Lorne smiled, squatted down, and asked Mia, "Your Highness, what happened?"
Lorne felt that Mia, who had just come out of the central area, must know the specifics.
The little guy was getting anxious, panting as he pointed to the big tree at the edge of his field of vision: "There...there's a really scary monster inside!"
"Don't rush," Lorne gently patted Mia's back, soothing her. "Tell me slowly."
"Grandpa Chief has finished setting up the random teleportation array!" Mia explained.
"But Grandpa Clan Chief was worried that random teleportation would send Brother Lorne to a dangerous place, so he activated the random teleportation array."
"I don't know why this accident happened..."
Mia didn't know how to describe it; her little head was a bit spinning.
"Take me there to see it." Lorne stood up, looking at the giant tree in the center of the settlement, his eyes gleaming.
"It's dangerous!" Mia swallowed hard.
Danger? Lorne thought that if these adult male elves dared to run towards the center, why couldn't he?
In terms of close combat ability, Lorne believes he is no worse than them.
"It's alright, I'm here." Lorne picked up Mia with one arm and placed the little one on his shoulder. "Take me there."
Mia was a little scared, her little body was still trembling, but she still nodded firmly.
Guided by Mia, Lorne quickly headed towards the scene of the incident.
Passing through a field of magical plants and herbs, Lorne surged into a small passageway made of vines.
"Brother Lorne," Mia said, pointing to the end of the passage from his shoulder, "there's a scary monster ahead."
"I understand." Lorne calmly began to practice his breathing technique.
"Snap, snap—"
The sound of his bones cracking and popping came from his body.
The faint smell of blood in the air and the dark environment of the tunnel stimulated the body's adrenaline.
Lorne activated the power of his second attack, ready to unleash his full potential.
Screams, crashes, wails.
Incessantly.
The pupils contracted due to the brief darkness.
Then, the light returned.
Lorne burst out of the tunnel and arrived near the giant tree!
A dense, tidal wave of white bones came into view, and the male elves fought back desperately.
Numerous pale white humanoid skeletons, seemingly possessing their own consciousness, relentlessly assaulted the elves' defenses.
This is... an undead creature? Lorne recognized it at a glance.
The skeletons moved with strange yet swift steps, their joints creaking and groaning.
They pounced on the Kenlar elves, scratching their waxy white skin with their sharp finger bones.
Blood splattered everywhere, accompanied by screams of agony.
"Brother Lorne, I'm scared." Mia's little hands gripped Lorne's neck tightly.
"It's alright," Lorne reassured softly. "Where is Mr. Sodrion?"
Mia pointed to the giant tree: "Grandpa Chief and Dad are inside."
Having identified his objective, Lorne leaped into the air and plunged into the dense horde of skeletons.
"Ah!" Mia closed her eyes in fear.
Although there are many skeletons, they are all just skeletons and do not hold any weapons, so they are not very dangerous.
[Fist Bone] - Bonus.
Lorne casually threw a few punches, sending the skulls of several skeletons around him flying.
Skeletons were scattered all over the ground, and more skeletons surged forward.
Lorne had no intention of fighting them and accelerated his charge toward the giant tree.
As for the skeletons blocking the way.
It's just a matter of throwing a punch.
And so, the scene of one man charging into the midst of ten thousand soldiers unfolded at this moment.
A road paved with bones stretched out into the distance.
"Brother Lorne, you're even more amazing than Dad!" Mia's eyes lit up as she leaned on his shoulder.
"Is that so?" Lorne grabbed a skeleton by the spine and hurled it forward.
There were too many skeletons for him to handle.
As one falls, ten more surge forward, an endless stream.
How did such a massive horde of skeletons suddenly appear in the core area of the Elf settlement?
Lorne was eager to know what had happened to the random teleportation array and whether it would affect his ability to leave the elven settlement.
What puzzled him was why the elves of Kenlar were using their mortal bodies to resist the horde of skeletons.
Didn't Lady Elena say that every Kenlar elf is destined to be an excellent wizard due to their innate talents?
But being on the battlefield, he had no time to think.
While protecting Mia, Lorne advanced little by little.
"Haha." Mia sat on Lorne's shoulder and laughed heartily, screaming "Ah ah" whenever a skeleton soldier approached.
They were all stopped by Lorne.
"Splash—"
With Lorne shaking off another skeleton, the two finally escaped the horde of skeletons.
Fortunately, the skeletons' only target was the elves who were fighting desperately ahead. Once Lorne arrived at the base of the giant tree, they stopped their pursuit.
Although skeletons are not very combat-effective, they are quite troublesome to deal with.
"Your Highness, where do we go next?" Lorne glanced at Mia, who was perking up on his shoulder.
The little guy was very excited and kept mocking and provoking the skeletons behind him.
Perhaps it was Lorne who gave it its confidence.
It viewed traversing the horde of skeletons as something novel and fun.
I'm still very excited and haven't calmed down yet.
"There!" Mia pointed to the spiral wooden staircase on the tree wall: "Grandpa Chief and Dad are up there fighting a big guy."
It gestured with its hand, indicating that it was very, very big.
Lorne carefully stepped onto the wooden ladder, his mind filled with questions he wanted answered.
"Your Highness, why aren't they using magic to fight off those skeletons?" He pointed to the horde of skeletons below.
"Spells?" Mia scratched her little head on her shoulder. "But only the chieftain in the whole village knows spells."
"Tap—" Lorne stopped in his tracks.
The first thought that popped into my head was: How is this possible!
