Chapter 85 Capturing Earl Redwin Alive
Chapter 85 Capturing Earl Redwin Alive
Lord Adrian Redwin was completely unaware that this was not an "accident" at all, but a carefully planned scheme by the enemy to lure him away from his mountain stronghold.
Those towering flames and thick smoke were not the aftermath of the disaster, but the beginning of an even greater catastrophe. The Iron People cleverly used the shock and psychological void created by the earth-shattering explosion to cover up the real arson, successfully luring the defending troops to split up and further weakening the key defensive line—the city walls.
As these soldiers rushed toward the wrong battlefield, more Ironborn, following the breach Euron had opened, like sharks smelling blood, launched a truly fatal attack on the suddenly chaotic and vulnerable city. Count Adrian's "reasonable" misjudgment was pushing Green Pavilion Island into an abyss of no return.
A group of people, like ghosts blending into the wall, peered into the shadows of the building and reached the inside of the originally heavily guarded main gate.
The guards stationed here were so terrified by the terrifying green explosion and towering flames in the distance that they craned their necks to look, completely exposing their backs to their "own men".
Not a sound was wasted. Disguised as friendly forces, the Ironclad soldier approached like a lover, one hand swiftly covering the target's mouth and nose, pulling their head back to expose their unprotected throat. In the other hand, a razor-sharp, unreflective, cold dagger, like a viper's hiss, precisely and ruthlessly sliced across the side of the neck, or plunged diagonally upwards between the third and fourth ribs, aiming straight for the heart. The movements were clean and swift, with only the faint hiss of the blade cutting through flesh, cartilage, and trachea, and the victim's desperate gurgling as if being choked. Blood splattered like warm wine onto the attacker's arm and camouflage, and the body was gently laid down, dragged into the shadows. The entire process took only a few breaths; control of the door had already changed hands.
Another team, with almost identical efficiency and ruthlessness, dealt with the guards controlling the lifting mechanism of the massive suspension bridge. One of the Ironmen even deliberately let out a terrified cry: "Look over there! Good heavens!", successfully drawing the full attention of the remaining guards. The instant they turned their heads, death silently descended from behind.
The task of securing the retreat route and the passage for follow-up troops was accomplished silently.
The other squads, like deadly undercurrents, advanced along the planned route. They cleared the stairs and corridors leading to the castle's upper fortifications and command posts. When they encountered scattered patrols or messengers, they didn't flinch; instead, they approached them, feigning panic and shouting incoherent phrases like, "Quick! Support is needed up there!" In the instant they passed each other, a blunt axe struck the temple, a poisoned dagger pierced the kidney area with precision, and a steel wire noose tightened around the neck from behind with perfect coordination. The techniques were professional and cruel; often, before the victim even understood what was happening, their consciousness was plunged into eternal darkness. The passage was cleared quickly and quietly.
They encountered almost no significant resistance. Everyone's attention was completely captivated by the earth-shattering green explosion and the life-or-death battle on the open sea; fear and chaos clouded their judgment. They had no idea that the deadliest enemy had infiltrated them in disguise and was spreading like a virus straight to the heart of the enemy!
Finally, Euron personally led the core group of men along this "clean" passage paved with blood and corpses, like a death whirlwind rising from the ground, and suddenly stormed onto the platform above the city wall—this was not only the command center for the port defense, where ballistae and catapults were set up, but also the position where Earl Adrian Redwin personally supervised the battle!
At that moment, Count Adrian was stunned by the destructive green flames in the distance, his mind blank, completely unable to comprehend what was happening, and unaware of the danger that had befallen him from behind. It wasn't until the icy cold blade of a longsword, still stained with fresh blood, pressed gently against the bare skin of the back of his neck like the forked tongue of a venomous snake, that the biting chill jolted him awake, and he whirled around.
What came into his view was Euron Greyjoy's pale and cold face, and those chillingly heterochromatic eyes—one a cold, stormy blue, the other a pure black that swallowed everything like an endless abyss. Euron held a longsword in each hand, the blades dancing in his hands with a lightness and deadly grace, tracing dazzling arcs of silver light.
Seeing this, the last few loyal guards around the count cried out and drew their swords to try to save their lord, but Euron found their movements ridiculously slow.
A flash of sword light appeared! The left-hand sword, like a scorpion's tail, parried a spear that was thrusting towards him, and then slashed down, severing the four fingers of the guard holding the spear at the root. Before the guard could even let out a scream, the tip of the right-hand sword had already pierced his throat like lightning!
Another guard raised his battle axe and brought it down with a mighty slash. Euron shifted slightly, like a ghost, and the axe whistled past his black robes, striking the stone ground and sending sparks flying. At the same time, Euron's left-hand sword slashed upwards, precisely slicing through the unarmored leather armor and blood vessels under the guard's armpit, causing blood to gush out. His right-hand sword followed closely, thrusting forward like a chisel, the tip piercing deep into the guard's helmet through the visor!
*Crack!* A sharp, teeth-grinding sound, accompanied by a short, mournful cry, and the guard slumped down as if his bones had been removed.
The last guard was terrified and turned to run, but was struck on the back of the head by an axe from a warrior rushing up from the side, and fell to the ground without a sound.
The whole process happened in the blink of an eye; Count Adrian didn't even have time to blink a few times before his last barrier had turned into several convulsing, bleeding bodies on the ground.
Euron flicked the warm blood off his sword, his heterochromatic eyes locking onto the deathly pale Adrian Redwin, a cold and cruel smile playing on his lips.
"You—" Before Count Adrian could finish speaking, he was struck down heavily by the hilt of a sword by an Ironborn warrior and quickly bound.
Euron didn't even glance at the Earl, now a prisoner. He strode to the highest point of the city wall, grabbed the fluttering banner embroidered with the deep purple grape crest of the Redwyn family, ripped it off, and threw it to the ground, letting countless Ironborn trample on it.
Immediately afterwards, a huge, ferocious, golden family banner of the sea monster Greyjoy was quickly raised, arrogantly waving in the wind above Starfish Harbor against the backdrop of the still burning green hellfire and the deafening war drums!
All of this happened so quickly, so suddenly. When the port's garrison and civilians were just beginning to recover from the shock of the explosion, they were shocked to find that the port's core defenses had changed hands, their lord had been captured alive, and the golden sea monster flag, symbolizing conquest and destruction, was arrogantly flying above their castle!
Panic, like wildfire, instantly engulfed the entire Starfish Harbor. Morale in the direct naval battle collapsed abruptly, and the Ironborn's victory was already sealed.
