Chapter 99 The Appearance of the Breath of Water.

The two of them arrived at a place with a sacred spring.

Suddenly, delicate ripples spread across the surface of the spring, as if nature's finest paintbrush was outlining subtle patterns on the smooth, mirror-like surface.

As the ripples widened, a figure gradually materialized from the water, as if pulled from the abyss by an invisible force. It eventually transformed into a woman dressed in a long emerald green dress. Her hair gently clung to her shoulders and back like fine water plants, and her eyes were deep and bright, as if they contained the wisdom and gentleness of the entire spiritual spring.

"I am Luo Li, the guardian of this ancient spiritual spring." The woman's voice was clear and melodious, like the tinkling of a spring, refreshing the mind and spirit. She stepped lightly across the water, as if ignoring the constraints of gravity, and walked step by step toward Xiao Chong and Zi Yan, a gentle smile on her face.

Xiao Chong and Zi Yan involuntarily took a step back, their hearts filled with astonishment. The Luo Li before them exuded an indescribable aura of peace, making them feel an immediate sense of closeness.

"The 'Breath of Water,' which appears only once every thousand years, is formed from the natural essence deep within the spiritual spring. It possesses the powerful ability to purify all things and nurture life." Luo Li's gaze slowly moved between the two of them, as if she could see into their hearts. "The fact that you two were able to discover its existence must be due to extraordinary opportunities."

Zi Yan bit her lower lip lightly, her eyes sparkling with curiosity and anticipation: "Miss Luo Li, you said that this 'Breath of Water' is a once-in-a-millennium occurrence, so how can we obtain it? We do have an urgent need for it."

Luo Li smiled slightly, her finger lightly touching the water's surface, causing ripples to spread out as if in response: "Obtaining the 'Breath of Water' is no easy feat; one must pass the three trials set up by my spiritual spring. Each trial is a test of your character, wisdom, and strength. Only by truly understanding the mysteries of water can one touch the core of that purest and most pristine power."

Xiao Chong straightened his back, his eyes resolute: "Please tell us what the trial entails. No matter how difficult it is, we will do our best."

Luo Li nodded in satisfaction: "The first trial is a trial of the mind. You must sit quietly by this spiritual spring for three days and three nights without a single distracting thought. Only those with pure hearts can sense the subtle changes in the water element."

Zi Yan frowned slightly, seemingly hesitant, but her eyes quickly hardened: "Since it's for obtaining the 'Breath of Water,' we are willing to accept the challenge."

As the sun rises and the moon sets, and the stars change, the two sit quietly by the spiritual spring, time seemingly frozen in that moment. The hustle and bustle of the outside world seems to be shut out, and only the dialogue between their hearts and nature quietly blossoms in their souls.

Finally, as the first rays of dawn touched the water's surface once more, Luo Li slowly spoke: "You have passed the trial of the soul; now comes the test of wisdom. Hidden in the misty forest ahead is a Water Heart Stone that I have specially placed there. You must find it within three days and bring it back here."

Xiao Chong and Zi Yan exchanged a glance, said nothing, and immediately stepped into the Misty Forest.

The moment you step into the Misty Forest, the surrounding light suddenly dims, as if shrouded by an invisible curtain.

Amidst the swirling mist, towering trees with intertwined branches and leaves form natural barriers, completely isolating the area from the outside noise.

Luo Li's voice still seemed to echo in my ears, but her figure was nowhere to be seen. Only the faint light and shadow danced among the leaves, guiding the way.

"This misty forest is more mysterious than I imagined," Zi Yan said softly, her purple eyes gleaming with curiosity and vigilance in the dim light.

Xiao Chong's gaze was firm: "No matter how many difficulties we face, we will not back down. Let's go, Zi Yan, the test of wisdom awaits us."

The two walked side by side, the fallen leaves and twigs rustling softly beneath their feet, a sound particularly clear in the silent forest. Occasionally, the low growls of unknown wild beasts echoed through the mist, adding an air of unknown danger.

"Look over there!" Zi Yan suddenly pointed to the right, where a path surrounded by strange flowers was faintly visible. The flowers emitted a faint glow, like stars in the mist. "This path might be the one we're looking for."

They cautiously ventured deeper into the path, each step filled with deliberation. Suddenly, a deep, ancient voice resonated in their minds: "Traveler, solve my riddle, and you may proceed—what weapon can both wound and heal?"

Zi Yan frowned slightly, then smiled broadly: "It's knowledge. Knowledge can enlighten people, but it can also become a weapon of attack."

As she answered, the surrounding fog seemed to dissipate somewhat, and the road became clearer.

Xiao Chong couldn't help but exclaim, "Zi Yan, your wisdom always brings us surprises."

They continued onward, encountering several more similar puzzles, each time cleverly resolved either through Zi Yan's wit or with the help of Xiao Chong. However, the real challenge lay ahead.

"We've ventured deep into the heart of the forest; the Water Heart Stone should be nearby." Xiao Chong looked around. Amidst the dense trees, everything seemed so peaceful, yet it concealed endless possibilities.

Xiao Chong and Zi Yan walked slowly under the dense shadows of the trees, each step seemingly treading on the heartbeat of the ancient forest.

Sunlight filtered through the dense foliage, casting dappled patterns on the ground and adding a touch of mystery to this tranquil world.

"Ziyan, have you sensed the location of the Water Heart Stone?" Xiao Chong asked in a low voice, a hint of tension barely perceptible in his tone.

Zi Yan closed her eyes, gently clasping her hands together as if trying to catch some faint information in the air. "We're very close, right in the very center of this area." She opened her eyes, her gaze filled with determination and anticipation. "However, the forces of nature are unusually active here; we must be careful."

Before he finished speaking, the ground suddenly shook, as if some enormous creature was awakening deep underground.

The two quickly separated and cautiously looked around.

A moment later, several large, dark green geckos emerged from the cracks in the ground. Their eyes reflected an eerie light in the sunlight, and their sharp teeth and claws charged straight at the two of them.

"Back off!" Xiao Chong shouted in a deep voice, his figure bursting forth like a silver lightning bolt, directly charging towards the largest gecko at the front. His movements were as fast as a ghost; a gleaming longsword had appeared in his hand without his noticing. With a light touch of the tip, he precisely pierced the gecko's vital spot, killing it instantly. The gecko's massive body crashed to the ground, raising a cloud of dust.

"Xiao Chong, be careful!" Zi Yan's voice was filled with anxiety. She waved the staff in her hand, and the moment she uttered the incantation, the air condensed into tiny ice crystals, which shot out towards the remaining geckos, freezing them so they could not move.
