Chapter 97 Unexpected Danger Arrives.

Xiao Chong's eyes instantly sharpened, flashing like cold stars. He said in a low voice, "Zi Yan, step back."

Though spoken softly, the words carried an undeniable resolve.

Upon hearing this, Zi Yan's eyes flashed with surprise, but she quickly understood the determination in Xiao Chong's eyes. Without saying anything more, she slightly shifted her body and retreated to a relatively safe distance.

Xiao Chong took a deep breath, his internal fighting spirit surging like a raging torrent, instantly covering his entire body. His fists clenched tightly, and every inch of his skin seemed to contain a world-destroying power.

The dark creatures seemed to sense the threat, emitting even more piercing hisses and stirring restlessly, attempting to surround them.

"You mere evil creatures, how dare you be so presumptuous!" Xiao Chong roared, his battle qi erupting like a tornado. In an instant, the wind howled and the space trembled. Every strike of his was precise and powerful, causing the dark creatures to explode and dissipate into wisps of black smoke.

The battle ended even faster than expected. Xiao Chong's figure remained upright, but his breathing had returned to normal. He walked slowly towards Zi Yan, took out a small jade bottle from his robes, and gently shook it. A few pills radiating a warm glow rolled into his palm.

"Ziyan, this is a specially made Rejuvenation Pill. You should feel much better after taking it."

Zi Yan accepted the pill, her gratitude overflowing. "Brother Xiao Chong, you're always troubling me..." Before she could finish, Xiao Chong gently interrupted her, "Between us, there's no need for thanks." His gaze was gentle, as if it could melt away all ice and snow.

After Zi Yan took the pill, her complexion gradually regained its rosy hue, and her injuries and fatigue were noticeably relieved. She stood up, her gaze resolute, and said to Xiao Chong, "Now, it's my turn. Behind these dark creatures, there must be an even more powerful being controlling them."

As soon as Xiao Chong finished speaking, a strange wind blew from afar, and an ominous atmosphere seemed to permeate the air.

"It seems we don't need to look for it; it's delivered itself to our doorstep." Xiao Chong's tone was calm, but his eyes flashed with fighting spirit.

"Those who come with ill intentions will not come with good intentions." Zi Yan gripped her longsword tightly, her eyes sharp. "Then let's see who this person really is."

Suddenly, a huge, eyeless worm burst out of the ground. Upon seeing the worm's appearance, Zi Yan felt like vomiting.

Xiao Chong moved swiftly, instantly blocking Zi Yan's path. He drew his longsword, its tip pointing directly at the grotesque, eyeless worm. The sword's light shone like a cold moon, radiating chilling energy. He said in a deep voice, "Zi Yan, step back."

Zi Yan took a few steps back as instructed, but her eyes showed no fear as she kept a close eye on the worm's every move, her long sword poised to strike.

The worm's enormous body writhed, emitting chilling growls that sent dust billowing across the ground. Suddenly, it opened its massive maw, filled with fangs, and a stench assaulted its nostrils, as if it intended to devour the two of them whole.

"You're courting death!" Xiao Chong roared, his figure transforming into a blur as sword light spread like a dense net, aiming straight for the worm's vital spot. The air hissed as the sword light flashed, demonstrating the formidable power of this attack.

The worm seemed to sense the threat, and its skin suddenly hardened, as if it had developed a metallic sheen, easily resisting Xiao Chong's first wave of attacks.

Its reaction speed is terrifying.

"This guy's tough as nails." Xiao Chong steadied himself, his brows furrowed slightly, and turned to Zi Yan, saying, "We need to think of a way; we can't just fight him head-on."

Upon hearing this, a sly glint flashed in Zi Yan's eyes: "I have an idea."

Xiao Chong nodded: "Tell me about it."

"Watch this!" Zi Yan leaped lightly, dodging another attack from the worm, while pointing her long sword diagonally at the sky and chanting a spell.

In an instant, a dazzling light condensed at the tip of the sword, like a small sun, containing purifying power.

As the energy continued to gather, the ball of light suddenly exploded, transforming into countless beams of light that shot towards the worms in a devastating barrage.

The worm writhed in agony under the impact of the light arrows, its skin began to show signs of corrosion, and it emitted angry and painful hissing from between its fangs.

"A good opportunity!" Seeing this, Xiao Chong changed his sword stance, making his sword moves even more fierce. Each strike landed precisely on the spot where the worm had been eroded by the light, as if he were clearing the way for Zi Yan's attack.

The battle was intense and exciting, with the two fighters working in perfect harmony. One would strike when the opponent was off guard, while the other would deliver a fatal blow at the crucial moment.

Despite their large size, the worms gradually became overwhelmed by their close cooperation.

Finally, after a fierce combined attack, the worm's massive body crashed down, shaking the ground.

Xiao Chong and Zi Yan mistakenly believed that the worm was dead, but to their surprise, the worm's head was severed from its body, and it opened its blood-red maw to swallow them.

"Watch out!" Zi Yan, with her sharp eyes, was the first to notice the worm's sudden and strange behavior. She quickly pulled Xiao Chong, and the two narrowly avoided the enormous maw that could devour everything.

"This guy isn't quite dead yet!" Xiao Chong's expression was grave, the longsword in his hand gleaming coldly in the sunlight. He knew all too well that the real battle had only just begun.

Although the worm's head had detached from its body, its bloodthirsty eyes still gleamed with a ferocious light, as if unwilling to be defeated by a mere human. Each twist of its body stirred up a gust of wind, sending sand and gravel flying and making the surrounding air heavy.

"We need to finish this quickly; this monster's vitality is astonishing." Zi Yan drew the short blade from her back, her gaze resolute. The two stood back to back, forming a pincer movement, vigilantly observing the worm's every subtle movement.

"You draw its attention, and I'll find an opportunity to deliver the fatal blow." Xiao Chong quickly formulated a battle plan, his tone revealing an unquestionable decisiveness.

Zi Yan nodded, her figure flashing like purple lightning as she circled around to the worm's side. She shouted, "Come on, big guy! Let's see if your teeth are sharper, or my blade is faster!"

The worm seemed enraged; its massive head suddenly turned towards Zi Yan, its enormous mouth spewing out a foul stench as it charged forward. Zi Yan nimbly dodged, simultaneously casting a trusting glance in Xiao Chong's direction.

Just as the worm's attention was completely drawn, Xiao Chong took a deep breath, his inner energy surged, and his figure transformed into a streak of light, rushing straight at the worm's vital point—its exposed and vulnerable neck—from an unexpected angle.

"Go!" With a low shout, the longsword seemed to transform into a dragon's roar, piercing the worm's neck with overwhelming force. Blood gushed out like a spring, staining the surrounding sand red.

The worm let out a deafening wail, its head drooping limply before crashing heavily to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.

"Well done, Brother Xiao Chong!" Zi Yan breathed a sigh of relief, a bead of sweat sliding down her forehead, but her face was beaming with the joy of victory.
