Lord of Mysteries

Chapter 85 Urgency

Chapter 85 Urgency

A strange, distorted, and faint fluctuation flashed by so quickly that Klein almost doubted he was hallucinating.

If he hadn't been so adept at handling inspiration, he would likely have overlooked this anomaly.

Thinking of his sister upstairs, Klein frowned, gripped his cane, walked around the bathroom, and turned toward the Wood family's staircase.

He hurried upstairs, and based on his intuition and grasp of the remaining traces, arrived at the door of the living room near the balcony.

"It should be here..." Klein muttered, raising his hand to lightly tap his brow twice.

One by one, "auras" pierced through the walls and wooden doors and entered his eyes; most of them were normal in color but had blurry outlines.

But one of them had an eerie blackish-green hue rippling across its surface, a blackish-green that was slowly seeping inward.

"There's definitely a problem." Klein's expression turned unusually serious as he reached out and untied the silver chain wrapped around his left wrist.

His left hand gripped the silver chain, letting the citrine pendant hang naturally in front of him.

Once the swaying subsided, he outlined the sphere of light and silently recited in his mind:

"There is a danger caused by the supernatural in the room in front of me."

Normally, the "pendulum method" is only suitable for divination of matters related to oneself and objective situations within a small scope. Therefore, Klein's description is quite particular: "danger" will cause oneself to be affected, and "room" is right in front of one's eyes.

……

"There is a danger caused by the supernatural in the room in front of me."

After repeating it seven times, Klein opened his eyes and saw the citrine pendant spinning clockwise at a very fast speed.

This indicates that there is indeed a supernatural danger in the room, and the level of danger is not low!

Selena is a fan of the occult, and she led her friends through a ritual that went terribly wrong? What should they do? Klein rubbed his temples, rewrapped the citrine pendant, and knocked on the door.

Boom boom boom!

He tapped the door three times rhythmically, a kind smile plastered on his face.

With a creak, the door opened, and Melissa, wearing a new dress, appeared before Klein.

"Klein, what's wrong?" The girl was quite surprised that her brother would come.

Klein replied with a smile that showed no trace of gloom:

"I heard you guys were having a lot of fun, so I got a little curious."

"Sorry, we disturbed you." Melissa apologized, bowing her head sheepishly. "We were playing a magic mirror divination game. Selena knows a lot about it, it's a lot of fun."

"Magic mirror divination... Sister, why don't you guys go play Ouija board or spirit board?" Klein shook his head, both amused and annoyed.

His gaze passed over Melissa and fell into the living room, where he saw Selena, with her bright smile and deep dimples.

However, in his spiritual vision, the wine-red-haired girl holding the silver-plated mirror was being corrupted even more severely by that eerie black and green.

His thoughts raced, and Klein carefully chose his words:

"Hehe, I won't disturb your game any longer. Oh right, where's Elizabeth? I was just talking to her about the grammar of Old Fussac, and she said she had some questions she wanted to ask me."

"Elizabeth?" Melissa looked her brother up and down a few times, then emphasized in a strange tone, "She's only sixteen."

"Hey, what are you thinking about!" Klein immediately explained:

"This is a normal academic discussion. Elizabeth is very interested in history and ancient languages."

Melissa looked at her brother again for a long time before saying:

"She's inside. I'll let her out."

"Okay." Klein took a step back, moving away from the doorway.

Watching his sister turn away, he breathed a sigh of relief, feeling rather unkind, thankful that it wasn't Melissa who had encountered danger.

He waited only a dozen seconds before Elizabeth, looking bewildered, came out and asked in confusion:

"Mr. Moretti, what exactly do you want? I never said I was interested in history and ancient languages..."

Just then, her words were interrupted by Klein's serious and solemn expression. He suddenly tensed up, as if he had also smelled something bad.

Klein took a few steps to the side, gesturing for Elizabeth to come over from behind the half-closed door.

The girl with adorable baby fat on her cheeks was affected by the sudden somber atmosphere and unconsciously followed along.

"You know, I'm a fan of the occult," Klein said, stopping in his tracks and turning around.

Elizabeth nodded slightly in response:

"Yes, I even think you're an expert in the occult."

"No, I'm just an enthusiast, but that doesn't stop me from discovering that there's something wrong with your magic mirror divination," Klein said gravely.

"Something went wrong?" Elizabeth nearly raised her voice, then quickly covered her mouth with her hand.

Klein thought for a moment and said:

"I know it's hard for words to convince you. Go back to the living room now and, when Selena isn't looking, sneak a peek at the mirror she's always hiding from you."

"How do you know she won't show us the front of the mirror?" Elizabeth blurted out.

According to our internal records, over 90% of cases involving evil "magic mirror divination" involve similar circumstances... Klein smiled slightly:

"common sense."

When a bewildered and fearful Elizabeth re-entered the room, his calm smile vanished, replaced by worry on his face.

Although they're both in the North District, it takes at least 15 minutes by horse-drawn carriage from Fania Street to Zotland Street. By the time the captain and the others arrive, things will probably have gotten out of control... If only Benson and Melissa weren't here... But I can't deal with those hidden, unknown entities... Is there any way to temporarily contain them...? Oh, right, Selena's a fan of the occult; her room should be full of hydrosols, essential oils, and herbs...

Just as Klein was racking his brains for a solution, Elizabeth casually found an excuse to discuss something and sat down next to Selena.

"Can you tell me when I'll meet a romantic and handsome gentleman?" A young woman across from me took a sip of wine, blushing under the teasing gazes of the crowd, and mustered her courage to ask.

Selena coughed twice and solemnly stroked the back of the mirror, saying:

"Magic mirror on the wall, when will the gentleman Yunina desires appear?"

After repeating it three times, she picked up the mirror and held it up to her face.

Seizing the opportunity, Elizabeth suddenly turned and peeked out.

As expected, she thought she would see Selena's face in the mirror, and half of her own face.

However, all she could see was Selena.

The small mirror only showed Selena, and it was a full-body reflection of Selena!

The mirror was pitch black, with Selena standing in the center, her expression cold and sinister!

Elizabeth shuddered, abruptly leaning back against the sofa, momentarily forgetting to breathe.

She trembled uncontrollably, and without bothering to make an excuse, she suddenly stood up and stumbled towards the door, not daring to look back at the smiling Selena.

"Yunina's gentleman will appear on the second Sunday of six months from now..."

Amidst a playful voice, Elizabeth opened the door and saw Klein, dressed in a tailcoat and a half-high silk hat, standing in the shadow of the wall lamp.

"Mr. Moretti, I, I..." she stammered, unable to speak.

Klein calmly chuckled:

"Please don't disturb the ladies inside."

Infected by his smile, Elizabeth calmed down a little, reached out to close the door, and quickly walked to the wall lamp.

"I saw it, I saw only Selena in that mirror, the devilish Selena..." she said in a low voice.

As expected… Klein's expression grew even more serious, and he asked in a deep voice:

"Do you know which room is Selena's bedroom? Do you know where her occult items are?"

"It's right there, and the occult items are there too," Elizabeth said without hesitation, pointing to the room diagonally opposite.

Klein, carrying his cane, walked over, turned on the unlocked wooden door, and, using the light from the streetlights outside the window and the crimson moonlight high in the sky, opened the valve and lit the gas lamp.

In the dim, yellowish light, he glanced around and saw bottles of hydrosols and flower essences, boxes of herbal powders, candles, and amulets.

These items, whether placed on a desk or neatly arranged on a shelf, are all labeled with their names.

After confirming, Klein said to Elizabeth, who was following behind him:

"Do you want to save Selena?"

"Yes!" Elizabeth nodded subconsciously, then asked hesitantly, "Is it dangerous?"

"There is some danger involved, after all, I am just a fan of the occult," Klein answered frankly.

"There's some danger..." Elizabeth said after a few seconds of pursing her lips, "Is there anything I can do?"

Klein smiled gently and reassured him:

"Don't be nervous. Just pretend nothing happened and go back to the living room, back to Selena's side. Five minutes later, remember, five minutes later, bring Selena here under the pretense of surprising her. Knock lightly on the door, once long and twice short. Then, well, leave the rest to me."

Elizabeth silently recalled the events, then solemnly nodded and said:

"OK."

Watching her return to the living room, Klein glanced at his pocket watch, closed the door to Selena's bedroom, and then quickly cleared out the desk and placed the necessary items on the chair.

Then, he picked up two candles with a faint fragrance and placed them in the upper left and upper right corners of the desk, respectively.

This is a symbol of the "Crimson Queen" and the "Queen of Calamity and Fear".

Klein is going to hold a ceremony here to use the power of the goddess of night to fight against the mysterious, unknown being that influences Selena!

Since he is only Sequence 9 and his ritual magic is not powerful enough, in order to succeed, Elizabeth must lead Selena into the "sealed circle" and into the "altar" area!

Therefore, we must also take into account the possibility that the other party will notice and resist!

Based on the above factors, Klein prepared to use "interruption-style" ritual magic.
