Chapter 405 Entrustment

Chapter 405: Entrustment (please vote for recommendation on Monday)

West End, Carpenter Hotel.

Fors helped Lawrence into his room and helped him lie down on the bed.

This is a rather luxurious hotel. Apart from the bathroom, every place is covered with thick, soft, grayish-yellow carpets, and the walls are adorned with reproductions of famous oil paintings.

Lawrence took a breath and said:

"Thank you, Miss Wall. Please forgive a dying man for being unable to bow."

"No, Mr. Lawrence, your problem has improved. As a former practicing physician, I can tell you without a doubt that you can survive. After you rest for a while, we'll go to the clinic or the hospital," Fors reassured him.

Lawrence chuckled and said, "I know my physical condition very well, you don't need to comfort me. Besides, I'm an amateur astrologer, and I have a premonition that I will die in Backlund, in this hotel."

Aside from the embellishments, everything he said was the truth. He was nearly eighty years old and no longer the robust and energetic young man he once was. If it weren't for the Sequence Potion bringing him a certain improvement in physical fitness, he might already be buried in some cemetery.

Lawrence thought he could live another ten years, but he encountered the rebellion led by the former "traveler" Boutis and was seriously injured by the Aurora Society. All his remaining descendants also died in that disaster.

This dealt him a huge blow, almost preventing him from recovering. His mission to search for his two brothers and their descendants in Backlund only to find that they had already passed away, causing further trauma to his mental state.

All these things combined made Lawrence clearly feel that his life was coming to an end.

His initial plan was to lay a bouquet of flowers at the graves of Lauborough and Anlissa, and then immediately return to meet with the other members of the family elders to make his final arrangements. However, the elderly man's condition was such that he could pass away very soon.

Before Fors could speak, Lawrence laboriously pulled a palm-sized notebook from the inside pocket of his half-open clothes.

The notebook's cardboard cover was copper-green, giving it a very old feel.

Its surface bears an inscription in Old Fussac:

"I came, I saw, I recorded."

Lawrence placed the notebook on the blanket in front of his chest, took a breath, and said:

"Ms. Wall, if I die here, could you help me get it to Port Pritz?"

"Mr. Lawrence, you'll be alright," Fors emphasized.

At the same time, she glanced at the notebook subconsciously and found that it was not thick. There were three kinds of paper inside: one was a burnt yellow color, which was very rare; another was like yellowish-brown parchment, which was of medium quantity; and the last was just ordinary white paper, which was the most abundant.

Lawrence said with great difficulty:

"I mean, if, Ms. Wall, you would help?"

"Prydz Harbor isn't far, it's hardly a trip. If I need to be in a hurry, I could even make a round trip in half a day with a steam train," Fors nodded.

Lawrence breathed a sigh of relief, seemingly regaining some of his composure:

"After I die, wait ten minutes, take a glowing object from my body, and deliver it along with this notebook to Dorian Gray of the Pulitzer Harbour Fishermen's Association. My wallet and the £42 in cash inside are my reward and thanks to you. Let my clothes go to ashes with me."

"No, you don't need to give me anything. No, you won't have any problems, Mr. Lawrence," Fors said sincerely.

Lawrence seemed not to hear what she was saying, and murmured to himself, "Perhaps Dorian will give you some other rewards, but that depends on your own thoughts... I believe in you; the matter of Anlisa shows that you are a good girl..."

He suddenly came to his senses and said to Fors:

"Ms. Wall, could you please go downstairs and get me a bottle of hot water? I don't know when the waiter will be here."

"No problem." Fors didn't think much of it, grabbed the thermos, and left the room.

After walking a few steps, she suddenly realized something was wrong, because the water bottle in her hand was heavy, indicating that there was still a lot left.

Just as Fors was about to turn around to ask, he suddenly sensed a strong spiritual fluctuation in the room.

This is… Fors was stunned at first, but then he understood Mr. Lawrence’s intention:

As death approached, he clearly felt his body was starting to malfunction, and he feared that he would lose control and become a monster.

He wanted to die as a human, not a monster, so he chose to end his own life.

This is the final dignity of an extraordinary person.

Of course, if he turns into a monster, all his plans will fall apart.

Thinking of all this, Fors felt a pang of sadness and stood outside waiting for nearly ten minutes before pushing the door open and entering.

She saw Lawrence lying silently on the bed, looking much older than before, with a diamond the size of an eye beside him.

The sunlight streaming in through the window refracted across the "diamond," creating a beautiful, star-like scene.

Whew… Fors exhaled and carefully examined the body, discovering that Lawrence's cause of death was the most common cardiac arrest.

15 Minsk Street, Joewood District.

After resting at home for a while, Klein went to the Gray Fog to divine the matter of Will Onsett.

He let the origami crane fly out from the pile of clutter in the corner and land on the long bronze table in front of him, then took off the yellow crystal pendant wrapped around his cuff.

While holding the pendulum in his left hand, Klein used meditation to adjust his state and recall the scenes he had seen in the woods outside the cemetery.

He may not have noticed some details, but his spirituality would certainly not be overlooked. This divination mainly utilizes this point and relies on the gray fog to eliminate interference.

After completing the preparations, Klein conjured up new parchment and wrote down the "divination statement":

"Will Onsett is completely dead."

Immediately afterwards, he placed the origami cranes next to the divination words, causing the citrine pendant to almost touch them.

After entering a meditative state and completing all the steps of the "pendulum method," Klein opened his eyes and looked at the result:

The citrine pendant was spinning counterclockwise at a considerable speed and with a significant amplitude.

This indicates a negative.

This means that Will Unsett is not completely dead!

This... Klein was both surprised and somewhat expected.

He thought for a moment and then changed the divination statement:

"That body belongs to Will Onsett."

This time, the pendulum provided a positive insight.

The body did indeed belong to Will Unsett!

Klein had a vague idea and wrote down a new divination statement:

"Will Unsett's body will come back to life."

After a period of calm and focused work, Klein saw an epiphany:

It rotates counterclockwise at an extremely high speed.

This means that Will Unsett's body will not come back to life, that is, it will not turn into a zombie!

It seems that Will Unsetin has abandoned his previous body, either actively or passively, and is living in another way... Is this related to the "Mercury Serpent"? Klein tried to divine other things, but all of them failed, including "Will Unsetin's current state".

However, when he used the "dream divination method" to repeat his previous divination and asked "Will Unsettin's current location", he still got a similar image: a dark room with the sound of running water.

But this feels a little different.

Forget it, there's no need to waste time. I'm not going to get involved anyway... Klein put away his pendulum and prepared to return to the real world.

Based on the divination he had just performed and all the previous events, he had a vague guess about Will Onsett, but he couldn't confirm it.

He suspected that Will Onsett was another "mercury serpent"!

As Sequence 1, "Mercury Serpent" is not unique; up to three "serpents" can exist simultaneously!

The "Mercury Serpent," who controls destiny, can easily locate the spirit of Allen Star through origami cranes, create false revelations for the other party, and undoubtedly possess the ability to change someone's fate with a single word.

Will Unsett has become weak for some reason and is under threat from the second "Mercury Serpent." Everything he does is to get rid of it.

As for the reason for their conflict, the answer is simple:

When there is no sequence 0, three sequences 1 can exist simultaneously, but once there is a sequence 0, there will be no sequence 1!

The recipe for the "Black Emperor" potion explains the true meaning of this statement.

One of the main ingredients in that recipe was:

The extraordinary characteristics of the two "Princes of Killing"!

"Prince Killer" is Sequence 1 of the "Black Emperor" pathway!

To advance to Sequence 0 as a Sequence 1, you must acquire all the extraordinary traits of the other two Sequence 1s through the same pathway!

Because of this speculation, Klein became even more hesitant to get involved in Will Onsett's affairs.

If my deduction is correct, then it is a genuine "battle of the gods," something I can't afford to mess with... Klein's spirit plummeted, and he disappeared into the ancient palace above the gray mist.

In Queens, in an unremarkable house, Mr. A's gathering of extraordinary individuals was taking place as scheduled.

Fors and Hugh changed their clothes and accompanied Viscount Grelint, who was wearing an iron mask, into the hall, where they casually found a place to sit.

Before the party officially began, Viscount Grelint wrote down his needs in a letter to the waiter and prayed to the goddess, hoping for a response later.

Fors was as languid as ever, and unusually, he wore a hood, obscuring his face in shadow.

She was thinking back on Mr. Lawrence's matter.

She knew very well what that eye-sized "diamond" was; it was an extraordinary characteristic left behind by the other party, but she couldn't confirm which sequence it belonged to for the time being.

Fors casually flipped through the notebook and found that many pages were still blank, while the written parts were filled with all sorts of strange, bizarre, and mysterious symbols and magical signs, completely beyond Fors's knowledge.

What it is doesn't matter; what matters is that I have to keep my promise... Fors reminded himself.

At this moment, Mr. A, sitting on a single sofa with an exaggerated hood, spoke in a hoarse voice:

"I have a task."

"Help me find some people who believe in the so-called 'fools'."

Huh? Fors snapped out of his thoughts.
