Chapter 219 Hogwarts, Successful Infiltration
Diagon Alley, the office of the Daily Prophet.
As the most famous journalist in the British magical world, Rita Skeeter has a private office here.
Her job is easy, but sometimes it's also very busy.
Besides covering major events, she occasionally pries into the private lives of important figures and reaps huge profits from it.
Those important figures would always give her a generous sum of Galleons as hush money.
No one knew that her Animagus was an inconspicuous little beetle—she could fly to any place without magical defenses.
This made her invincible.
Sitting on a leather armchair, Rita Skeeter leisurely sipped her coffee while gazing at the bustling street outside the window.
She's in a good mood today.
Last night, she received another hush money payment.
Although the man threatened her repeatedly, he eventually left her a large sum of Galleons, only asking that she not speak recklessly in the newspaper.
Rita Skeeter enjoys this success.
However, she was also smart; she knew when to stop. In this world, some people would reason with her, but some people were just that kind of reasonable.
"Um?"
Rita Skeeter pushed up her jeweled glasses and looked out the window with a puzzled expression—an owl was flying toward her office.
"Fans? Or shouting letters?"
Rita Skeeter got up and opened the window, letting the owl fly in—she received a ton of letters like that every day.
After giving the owl some cookies, Rita Skeeter glanced at the signature on the envelope.
—Andy Collins?
"Who is this? My new fan?"
Rita Skeeter smiled smugly and casually opened the envelope.
"Aishia Collins' nephew? My fan?"
Rita Skeeter continued watching.
The letter contained a lot of information, but the vast majority of it was negative about Lockhart. This intrigued Rita Skeeter, who also disliked the flashy man.
Some time ago, Rita Skeeter published a book, and her competitor for the top spot on the sales charts was Lockhart.
But so what?
She used the influence of the Daily Prophet to severely damage Lockhart's reputation and ultimately won.
A quack professor?
Its spellcasting ability is only slightly better than a Squirrel?
He was easily defeated by a junior wizard in class?
Those books titled "autobiography" are not actually Lockhart's personal experiences, but rather things he stole from others.
Rita Skeeter's eyes flashed with a sharp light.
This is explosive!
Especially the photograph that came with the letter...
Three young wizards carried the unconscious Lockhart, while a large group of young wizards surrounded him, laughing merrily. As for Lockhart—he looked utterly pathetic.
"Hehehehehe—"
Rita Skeeter let out a strange laugh; she was extremely excited.
"Gidero Lockhart, turns out he's just a conman who's slightly better than a Squib!"
After the initial excitement subsided, Rita Skeeter sat down again and began to think about how to use this incident to expose Lockhart's true colors.
Merlin, a third-class medalist, an honorary member of the Anti-Dark Magic Association, and a famous author known for his autobiographical books—in reality, he's a conman only slightly better than a Squib!
She believed this would definitely ignite public opinion throughout the British magical community.
Most importantly, she can become more famous.
The attack on Azkaban was indeed a big deal, but it had nothing to do with Rita Skeeter.
What are the opinions of ordinary wizards on this matter?
Or should we interview officials from the Ministry of Magic?
That's where the junior reporters work.
Fudge has used the Ministry of Magic's authority to pressure all newspapers, and no one dares to speak recklessly on this matter.
But Lockhart's situation is different.
"Well……"
Rita Skeeter read Andy's letter again.
The photo could indeed serve as evidence, but Rita Skeeter still felt it wasn't "ironclad proof" enough; she needed to investigate Hogwarts herself.
With that thought in mind, Rita Skeeter hurriedly left the office.
She quickly gained the permission of the newspaper's editor, Mr. Barnabas Goughfe, to interview Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts.
……
Around 6 p.m. that day, Andy saw a woman in the corridor on the eighth floor.
Her hair was styled into elaborate, stiff, and oddly wavy waves. She wore jeweled glasses, a green leather jacket, and her thick, fleshy fingers clutched a crocodile-skin handbag. Her nails were two inches long and painted bright red.
"this…!"
Andy and Hermione were stunned.
Although wizards usually dress strangely, it takes a lot of courage to dress as strangely as she does.
As the woman walked into the headmaster's office, Hermione opened her mouth and muttered, "Andy, I think the wizarding world's aesthetic sense needs some saving."
"Yes, yes!" Andy nodded stiffly.
"What do you think is the relationship between that woman and Professor Dumbledore?" Hermione asked curiously.
"Maybe she's the principal's mistress. After all, it's so late, what do you think they're doing in the office?" Andy teased.
Hermione glared at Andy fiercely upon hearing this.
"All right!"
Andy surrendered, saying, "She's Rita Skeeter, that famous journalist. I bet she was just pretending to see the principal; her real purpose is probably to investigate Lockhart."
"It seems your plan has succeeded," Hermione said.
Andy sighed. "I just hope the next Defense Against the Dark Arts professor isn't that Rita Skeeter woman."
"Heh! How can you say that?" Hermione laughed.
After having dinner in the Great Hall, Andy and Hermione parted ways.
Hermione was going to the Ravenclaw library to read for a while. Ever since discovering the Chamber of Secrets in Slytherin, Hermione had been very enthusiastic about investigating the Ravenclaw library.
She believed that the library must be hiding an important secret.
Andy, on the other hand, was going to Slytherin's Chamber of Secrets to continue translating those books and manuscripts, materials that were invaluable to him.
Including the books in the principal's office.
Andy planned to bring the copied books home during the Christmas holidays and turn them into the Collins family's heritage.
While Andy and Hermione were busy with their own things, Rita Skeeter walked out of the headmaster's office with a stiff expression.
The interview didn't go very smoothly; that old bee was just too cunning.
She planned to write a book that vilified Dumbledore after his death. She had already come up with a title: "The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore".
But none of this matters.
After turning a corner, Rita Skeeter saw that no one was around. She took out her wand and pointed it at herself. Her body shrank rapidly, and she soon became a beetle the size of a button.
Hogwarts infiltration successful!
