My Pokémon Story of Seasons
Chapter 70 First Taste of Baking
On the vast pasture, a cozy log cabin stands quietly, its dark brown wood grain gleaming softly in the sunlight, and wisps of smoke rising from its chimney.
Around the cottage, neat farmland stretches out like a jigsaw puzzle, with lush green vegetable patches creating vibrant patches of color.
Further away, the lush green grasslands stretched out like a soft carpet. At the edge of the grasslands, a huge white windmill slowly turned.
This kind of idyllic scenery can't be seen in schools.
"It's so beautiful!"
Lu Mei and Huang Yao followed behind Tong Hua, their eyes wide as they looked around.
Once the Pokémon returned home, they went back to their respective posts: some were farming, others were collecting nectar.
While Hwang was changing clothes, Ritsumi sneaked out to explore the fields.
"Game." The forest tortoise smiled and let Ritsumei ride on its back, carrying her to inspect the fields.
Ritsumi carefully climbed onto the thick shell of the forest tortoise and gently placed her hands on its back.
"It's so stable!" Ritsumi exclaimed in surprise, her legs swaying involuntarily.
The forest tortoise emitted a gentle, low growl as it walked steadily along the country path.
Sweet Wuni and Mini Fu, who had just returned, were busy working in the lush green vegetable patch.
"Oh my!"
After evolving, Sweetie grew hands, making it easier for her to work.
It deftly touches each seedling with its fingertips, and sweet sap flows from them.
Miniature Fuchsia follows behind, spraying oil from its head to repel pests that could harm the crops.
"Amazing..." Ritsumei was so engrossed in watching that she unconsciously leaned down. The forest turtle noticed her movement and considerately slowed its pace.
After changing his clothes, Yao walked out of the wooden house and immediately saw Ritsu playing with the Pokémon.
"Ah, Ritsumi, you're so cunning! You actually ran away!" Kōyō shouted, standing under the wooden porch with his hands on his hips.
His plaid shirt was clearly two sizes too big, with the sleeves covering half of his palm; obviously, Tong Hua's clothes were a bit too large for him.
Hearing the voice, Ritsumei turned around and burst out laughing when she saw Huang Yao's attire: "Why do you look like one of those girlfriends who steals her boyfriend's shirt?"
"What can I do...?"
Huang Yao muttered something, his face flushed, but he accidentally stepped on his overly long trouser leg and nearly fell. Luckily, the foam squirrel darted over and caught him with its tail.
"Tsk tsk!" The little guy shook his head helplessly, helping Huang Yao roll up his trouser legs, looking just like a concerned little housekeeper.
Tong Hua stood by the window, smiling as she watched the two students interacting with the Pokémon. If she remembered correctly, these two should be the classmates of the protagonist in the game.
However, since the two main characters, Renmei and Chuangyi, have already joined the Fengrao Town base, how come they are still students?
It seems that the storyline here is different from what I know about the game.
"These are the first visitors to the ranch, it's a memorable occasion, we have to treat them well."
Tong Hua pondered what to do to entertain the two students.
"Why don't we make some snacks? That way we can use all the ingredients from the ranch."
Moo Moo fresh milk from the big milk jug, eggs from the white-feathered hens, the sweetness of the queen bee family, sweeteners from Sweet Wuni, plus olive oil from Mini Fu and rock salt from Saltstone.
As Tong Hua thought about it, her mouth started watering.
"Thinking about it this way, the things produced on the ranch now seem really suitable for making desserts."
They're all seasonings, not only are they versatile, but they can also enhance the quality of other dishes.
These days of research have convinced Tong Hua that the quality of a dish depends on the average quality of the ingredients used.
In other words, using high-quality seasonings is a shortcut to quickly improve the quality of a dish. Combined with high-speed cooking skills, this further increases the probability of successfully preparing sophisticated dishes.
Most importantly, the Pokémon in the ranch can improve the quality of materials as they are trained, meaning they have the potential to grow.
Imagine if one day every Pokémon on the ranch could produce B-grade or even A-grade ingredients, wouldn't Tong Hua then be able to use his culinary skills to mass-produce A-grade or even S-grade dishes!
"On the other hand, if the number of visitors increases in the future, maybe we can open a restaurant to generate revenue..."
No, it's not just a possibility, it's a certainty!
Thinking of this, Tong Hua's eyes lit up, feeling that he had found a way to get rich.
"However, working on the ranch is very busy, and if I were to open a restaurant, I would have to cook myself."
It might be easier to sell pre-baked snacks like cookies when customers arrive.
The shopfront can be the same wooden cabin we live in now, since we'll be building a new house later anyway. Rather than abandoning it or using it as a warehouse, we might as well make good use of it..."
With the plan taking shape in his mind, Tong Hua immediately put it into action.
He left the cabin and first gathered some materials on the ranch.
The milk and eggs were collected early this morning, and Sweetie was also collected once this morning. All that's needed now is olive oil and rock salt.
"Mini Fu, come here, come here."
Tong Hua stood in the field and waved. Upon hearing the call, Mini Fu immediately hopped and skipped over from the vegetable patch.
"Fufu!" she called out happily as she raised her round little face and leaned close to Tong Hua.
"Could you give me some fresh olive oil?" Tong Hua squatted down and gently patted Mini Fu's head.
Mini Fou nodded happily, closed her eyes, and began to concentrate. The fruit on its head gradually developed an oily sheen, and a few drops of golden olive oil slowly seeped out.
Tong Hua quickly took out the small glass bottle she had prepared and carefully caught the precious oil.
"That's really great!" Tong Hua praised. "When the snacks are ready, I'll let you try a few more."
Mini Fu proudly puffed out her chest and bounced back to her work post.
Next up is Saltstone Treasure.
Tong Hua walked onto the meadow and found Yan Shibao sitting quietly on a flat rock, basking in the sun, just like a mushroom. Hearing footsteps, he lazily opened one eye.
"Speaking of which, I seem to have forgotten to ask Grandpa Yang how to collect rock salt..."
Tong Hua looked at the rock beneath Yan Shibao. As Yan Shibao walked on it, his body rubbed against the rock, leaving a very noticeable mark.
"Could it be that they're just collecting these directly? Something doesn't feel right..."
"Knock knock".
Seeing Tong Hua's confused expression, Yan Shi Bao slowly got up. It shook its body, and tiny white particles fell from the white crystals on its head.
"Oh, I see." Tong Hua suddenly realized and quickly took out another small jar to catch the glistening rock salt.
After collecting everything, Tong Hua patted Yan Shibao on the head, "You'll get some snacks later too."
After collecting all the ingredients, Tong Hua returned to the kitchen of the wooden cabin. He tied on an apron and neatly arranged all the ingredients on the counter.
In addition to materials gathered from Pokémon, we also prepared some sweet vegetables such as berries and corn.
"Oh my god!" "Terrifying!"
Sweetie and Bubble Chipmunk followed him into the kitchen, both of them very interested in Tong Hua's cooking process.
Sweet Wu Ni tiptoed and curiously leaned over the edge of the kitchen counter, her eyes sparkling as she watched Tong Hua's movements.
The foam squirrel nimbly jumped onto the table, its little paws scratching at the jar containing sweet treats, looking utterly greedy.
"You two, stop causing trouble."
Tong Hua ignored the two Pokémon and turned to take a bag of flour from the cupboard.
"Luckily, I bought both low-gluten and high-gluten flour when I bought it before. Although I have never tried baking, with a professional chef as a backup, at least the food I make should be edible."
Since she was going to make desserts, Tong Hua decided to make the ones that were most commonly seen in games.
"The Pokémon cubes from the Hoenn region are hard candies; they can't be made without special equipment. Let's make the Poffins from the Sinnoh region or the macarons from the Kalos region instead."
While preparing the batter, Tong Hua thought to herself that, in terms of feeling, making macarons seemed to be much more difficult than making Bao Fen.
After all, in the game, Bofan only needs to heat and stir, which is much simpler than macarons.
"First, select several kinds of tree fruits, chop them up, and add them to the batter while stirring."
Tong Hua recalled how to make Bao Fen in the game, and poured peach, blue mandarin orange, pomelo and other fruits into the batter that had already started to heat up.
"Ah, ma~"
Sweet Wu Ni begged Tong Hua to help her make the food, and Tong Hua couldn't refuse her, so she handed over the wooden spoon for stirring and gave up her seat.
"Oh my!"
Sweet Wu Ni took the wooden spoon from Tong Hua with a smile and began to stir.
"Stir in one direction, but not too fast, or it will overflow. Clockwise! Clockwise!"
Tong Hua watched with bated breath, as Tian Wu Ni's movements were so exaggerated that she almost spilled the batter several times.
"Trembling!" The foam squirrel, who was helping to add firewood below, puffed out its cheeks, wanting to switch places with Sweetie.
"Oh dear." Sweetie pouted and reluctantly handed the wooden spoon to Foam Squirrel.
The little guy immediately and nimbly jumped onto the counter, wrapped his tail around the wooden spoon, and began to stir carefully.
Surprisingly, the foam squirrel moved much more steadily than the sweet gluten, and the batter swirled evenly under its stirring, emitting an enticing sweet aroma.
"Finally, add a touch of sweetness and fresh milk..."
All done! Now it's time to pour it into the mold and bake.
Oh right, we don't have an oven... so how about using the fireplace instead?
Tong Hua got right to work, pouring the prepared batter into a concave mold and then setting up a grill in the fireplace of the wooden house.
As a fragrant aroma wafted from the chimney, Tong Hua's first attempt at baking, Baofen, was finally ready.
