Doomsday America.
Chapter 385 Connection with Home
"what?"
Upon hearing Susan's words, Gavin couldn't help but stop in his tracks, standing there blankly looking at Susan.
"What did you say?"
Gavin asked incredulously.
"You're saying Susan's husband and kids... started a new family in that damn Atlanta?!"
Gavin's voice sounded somewhat incredulous, but he still kept his voice down, afraid of being overheard by Leona and the other members of the family-finding group. After all, the League's excellent community atmosphere had already absorbed four out of the fourteen or fifteen members of the family-finding group!
Gavin was now trying his best to keep the family-finding group around a little longer. The longer he kept them, the more these talented individuals, who had traveled far and wide in the apocalypse and had accumulated a wealth of experience, would be within his grasp! But then, news came from Atlanta that the leader of the family-finding group's husband and son had found new women in Atlanta! Damn it!
Gavin was about to unleash his fury.
Johnny, Anglu, what are you two idiots doing?!
Thinking of this, Gavin reached back and grabbed Susan's arm.
"Quiet!"
Gavin then spoke solemnly to Susan.
"Let me talk to the guy on the other end of the radio first. Then I'll consider whether to tell poor Leona this!" Gavin said, his steps suddenly quickening.
Susan had originally been holding his arm and leading him toward the radio station.
But now, the situation has turned into Gavin dragging Susan along towards the radio station!
Dragging Gavin along like this, Susan tried to adjust, quickened her pace to keep up with Gavin's rhythm, and whispered.
"But, boss, isn't this a bit unfair to Leona?"
"She came all the way from Boston to here, my God. I've heard her story, and it turns out the love and children she'd been searching for have formed a new family in another camp, it's just..." "Ahem, keep your voice down, Susan!"
Hearing Susan's words, Gavin shook his head helplessly and gripped Susan's shoulders.
"The information we've received so far is just a one-sided account from a camp in Atlanta that we're unfamiliar with!" "Can we completely trust them? Does everything that gets over the radio necessarily mean we should trust it?"
"So don't tell Leona this information yet. Let's at least confirm it first before deciding whether to tell her!" As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin quickened his pace and rushed to the third-floor broadcasting station.
Upon hearing the door open, ZT and the remaining radio station staff immediately stood up and bowed to Gavin! Their bow didn't seem very formal, since Gavin had never publicized how to greet him in the camp.
This was something Gavin deliberately avoided. No matter how his men greeted him, Gavin only needed confirmation that they still believed in and loved him. And Gavin…
Looking at the guys next to ZT, she couldn't help but laugh.
Who would have thought that the young black man who used to just sit in the radio station playing recordings of zombie survival manuals and occasionally telling a few Texas jokes would now have more than ten henchmen? Gavin had long since lost track of how fast the camp was advancing.
All he knew was that the alliance was accepting more and more new members, and its population was constantly increasing. Although not everyone was joining the alliance, the alliance would receive at least eight or nine groups of new members every month. This gradual and steady growth meant that Gavin had long since forgotten who everyone in the alliance was.
But... seeing zt standing there with his buddies waiting for him, Gavin couldn't help but laugh.
The league used to struggle to find even a single announcer, and they even had the injured Porter Jr. fill in for a while. But now, even the announcer positions require at least a dozen people to keep them running!
This is the result of my own hard work!
Even if you are in the end times, your efforts have not been in vain, have they?
Thinking of this, Gavin waved to zt and the other announcers.
"Guys."
Gavin smiled and said to them.
"I just received a message from Susan. Did we receive a call from the new camp in Atlanta?"
"Don't just stand there like an idiot. I sincerely hope you guys will drink a few glasses of wine for me and then properly celebrate this laugh."
"Most states and counties in America are now out of contact, so whether the survival camp in Atlanta brings us good news or bad news, at least we have one more friend worth contacting on our map, right?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin strode to the radio station and grabbed the radio intercom.
"zt?"
Gavin then spoke up and asked z±.
"Has the camp in Atlanta been lost?"
"Of course not, boss. They just sent a message. We reported it to you as soon as we received the information. We'll be able to contact them right away!" After saying that, ZT reached out and made some adjustments to the radio.
The radio at Camp Gavin has long since evolved from its initial ability to receive only shortwave frequencies. The astronauts have tuned it to receive medium-wave frequencies, making it almost as good as military-grade power. Seeing ZT make way for him, Gavin nodded and casually took the head seat.
"Ahem!"
He coughed lightly twice into the microphone and spoke into the radio.
"Hello, this is Gavin. Could you tell me how you've successfully addressed our concerns?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin casually took the pen and paper that ZT had brought.
Gavin always liked to take notes while listening to the radio, something old-timers like zt knew all too well.
While Gavin was taking the pen and paper, a reply finally came from a survival camp in Atlanta on the other end of the radio.
A remarkably calm voice came through the radio!
"Hello, Mr. Gavin, I'm Wesker, and also one of the heads of Atlanta Home!"
"You may not have heard of us before."
"If that's the case, I sincerely hope I can explain it to you."
"Our homeland isn't happy to constantly hide within the Alliance's radio network, it's just... there's a slight, perhaps indescribable, internal conflict in our population structure that worries us!"
"Of course, those conflicts are not the reason we contacted you."
"However... setting aside the issues at our camp, there are two people your alliance needs: Johnny and Anglu." "We have indeed made contact with them!"
After saying this, the other party paused the radio for a short while, giving Gavin some time to think.
After a brief silence, Gavin pondered for a moment before replying to the so-called Wesker.
"Hello, Wesker, this is Gavin."
"Perhaps you've heard my name, just as I've heard yours."
"Wesker... that's a memorable name, and it fits perfectly with the current post-apocalyptic world where zombies exist."
"So, Wesker."
"What do you want to say to me? I don't want to hear anything related to Resident Evil. I just want to know if Johnny and Anglu, whom you're talking about, are actually connected to the two people I'm looking for!" Gavin took a deep breath after speaking.
Susan reached out and handed Gavin a hot milk tea.
This milk tea was a gift from the kitchen to the broadcasting team!
Jon's kitchen team is always incredibly thoughtful. Even without the arsonist, they provide a variety of heartwarming snacks, including milk tea, to specialized work groups like the broadcasting team.
Gavin took the milk tea and looked at Susan in surprise!
Honestly, while Gavin is undoubtedly the league's leader, he's not some power-hungry maniac who has to meddle in every aspect of the league's operations! Does he even know that the broadcasting team gets extra milk tea as a perk?!
This can be seen as Susan subtly helping Jon out in front of Gavin; he did a fantastic job!
Just as Gavin took a small sip of his milk tea, on the other end of the radio...
Wesker then spoke to Gavin, seemingly cautiously and in a low voice.
Gavin could hear the caution and wariness in his tone, and Wesker spoke softly.
"Lord Gavin, we have nothing to hide regarding Johnny and Anglu. We did indeed have close contact with them approximately 120 days ago." "To be honest, we don't mind revealing our location, especially in front of the alliance you lead."
"Our camp is named Home. Our mission is to provide a haven for everyone who has lost their way in the apocalypse, and we hope that the environment we create can become a home in everyone's heart."
"Of course, that's just idle talk. I know you'd rather hear about Johnny and his son."
"I'm sorry, Mr. Gavin, our home base may not be able to earn the bounty you've offered for Johnny and Anglu's actual location, in exchange for well-maintained armored vehicles!" "Because we only briefly hosted the father and son you're looking for 120 days ago, and then provided them with supplies when they decided to leave!" At this point, the radio went silent again.
Gavin, clutching the radio intercom, glared at Susan and ZT with displeasure as the call didn't go through.
After all, the situation he was facing was not what he had imagined.
Gavin, after hearing what Susan said, thought that Johnny and his son's positions had already been revealed.
result?
This strange home had no detailed address for the father and son, only traces of their past.
Facing Gavin's scrutinizing gaze...
zt shrugged innocently, while Susan tried to snuggle into Gavin's arms and explained to him.
"Boss, I went to find you as soon as I got the message. I didn't know anything about what happened afterward. I really took your orders too seriously!" "Hmm..."
Listening to Susan's explanation, Gavin shook his head noncommittally, then ignored Susan, picked up the cordless phone, and said softly.
"Homeland, right?"
"It's a nice name; even just hearing it makes me feel warm and fuzzy!"
"Before I named our camp the Newcomers' League, which is now a widely known alliance."
"I've also had the urge to name our home."
"Just hearing your names tells me you're not like those camps that emphasize savagery and violence, but rather you cherish the little things pre-apocalyptic society left us, right?" "Of course, Mr. Gavin!"
Upon hearing Gavin's words, Wesker quickly responded.
"You know us so well! It's just a pity we're so far away from you, over a thousand miles away. Otherwise, we'd even like to join your ranks!" "But no matter what, even though the distance between us is insurmountable, I'm still willing to share our intelligence with you."
"In our home, there are two girls of just the right age. One is named Lilith, and the other is named Eugenie."
"Mr. Gavin, if you're looking specifically for Johnny and Anglu, I'm sorry, but they left our home a long time ago, abandoning their pursuit of so-called freedom." "But Lilith... I mean, the girl who briefly formed a family with Anglu in our home."
"She's pregnant! She's been pregnant for three months!"
"I guarantee this child is Anglu's. As for Johnny, I don't know him very well, but he also has a girl waiting for him." "Therefore, Mr. Gavin, our homeland doesn't need your funding. We don't need the armored vehicles and various weapons your alliance promised—that finding Johnny and Anglu would guarantee their arrival." "We only want to find the father of Lilith's unborn child, and more importantly, we want to find those worthy of our remembrance for our loved ones who deeply miss them!" "We share a common goal, Gavin, we're on the same side!"
At this point, Wesker fell silent again.
And Gavin...
He was completely dumbfounded...
What does it mean that Anglu has a child?
What do you mean there's still someone waiting for Johnny?
What do you mean by saying you don't care about the armored vehicles I promised, but that we share common demands?
Gavin couldn't simply offer empty words and ask a series of survival camps across America to find information about Angle and Johnny on Leona's behalf. In fact, he had already done so five days earlier, when he announced his search for the two.
He then offered a reward for information about the two individuals.
Of course, Gavin's bounty was not entirely out of goodwill or charity.
After all, Gavin had offered a bounty of an entire well-equipped armored vehicle and a whole squad of ten people's worth of ammunition! Gavin's attitude toward this was that he would never lie.
I'll give you whatever amount you say I'll give!
But regarding transportation... and the inevitable contact that will occur during transportation...
Gavin's attitude of raising his hand was one of taking things as they come.
Your camp being exposed is your problem.
It's your problem if your people want to join us.
I keep my word; I'll give you whatever I say I'll give you.
but……
"Ahem!"
Gavin continued speaking to Wesker on the other end of the radio.
"Wesker, I see. Johnny and his son stayed at your camp, right?"
"You are the first friend to convey this message to me so far, and I am very grateful."
"So even if you can't give me their exact location, I'm still willing to give you the gift you deserve."
Tell me your location, and I'll bring people over!
"You'll receive my gift soon, and I look forward to meeting you!"
"Extremely looking forward to it!"
