Chapter 12 On the Brink of Despair
Gordon instinctively drew his gun, only to realize, upon touching the empty holster, that Catwoman had already taken everything.
The cyborg's heavy fist came crashing down on him, the stench of blood filling the air, accompanied by the howling of the wind. A wave of immense fear, like a wooden wedge piercing his foot, pinned him to the spot.
In that life-or-death moment, his old partner lunged forward and pushed him away, their fists grazing each other's cheeks, and the sharp mane of Gordon's hair slicing open his cheekbone.
He almost died!
They stumbled and rolled to avoid being trampled. Before they could even celebrate their narrow escape, they were plunged back into an endless game of chase.
Brock drew his gun and returned fire. He was the police force's top marksman, and in bright light, he was ninety percent confident he could shoot the androids in the eyes before they got close.
But this was an underground sewer well, and that dim flashlight was their only source of light.
He could only grope in the dark, firing randomly at the nearest sound of panting.
This tactic was indeed effective, temporarily forcing the cyborgs to retreat. However, they were still not giving up, growling like angry gorillas as they pounded their chests and circled around the two of them.
The situation appears to be at a stalemate, but it is as volatile as a seesaw on a mountaintop.
A gust of wind is enough to break the balance.
At this moment, Qin Wei was huddled in a corner, motionless.
As soon as he reached the bottom of the well, he discovered the weakness of the cyborgs. The monsters had lived in nutrient tanks for many years and had only recently been placed in the sewers. However, both the tanks and the sewers were in dimly lit areas.
In other words, their visual system is severely degenerated, and they can basically only perceive light sources.
Like Gordon and his group, they were shouting and waving flashlights, practically adding a directional sign to a buffet restaurant, as if afraid people wouldn't be able to find their way to eat.
Qin Wei wanted to offer a reminder, but the situation was urgent, and he didn't have much time. He might even end up harming himself.
Of course, he didn't intend to play dead. Gordon and Brock were a shield. Without the shield, how could the soldiers withstand the enemy's barrage of arrows?
"Think of a way! Quickly, think of a way! Think about what Batman would do!"
……
From childhood to adulthood, everyone who has known Qin Wei says that he is extremely intelligent, but also extremely lazy.
Indeed, the word "lazy" perfectly encapsulates his attitude towards life.
This was the same way when I was in school; I would rather be mediocre than stand out. Even after entering the workforce, I couldn't shake these bad habits. I would just coast through my work, sleep during work hours, play on my phone during meetings, and always put off doing my work until almost the end of the workday.
Anyway, he's talented and quick-witted; he can do the work of someone else in a day in just one hour.
His favorite thing is teamwork. In a team, he doesn't need to use his brain. He just does whatever the leader tells him to do, and if there are problems, he won't be blamed. Although he also doesn't get any credit...
But what does honor matter to someone like him who has no ambition?
Life is just about getting by!
But after the time travel, one heavy burden after another fell on his shoulders. He had to rescue Oswald, and now he also had to rescue Gordon from the cyborgs.
He hates responsibility and hates having no choice.
Now it has both.
Qin Wei really wanted to lie down and end it all, but his will to live was whipping him, making him unable to stop.
Like an overheated engine, his heart pounded wildly, sending a constant stream of adrenaline to every corner of his body. At this moment, Qin Wei's mind became exceptionally sharp.
A crazy idea popped into my head.
"Chief Gordon, the handcuffs!"
"What?"
"I said handcuffs!!!!"
A desperate roar pierced through the surrounding noise and reached Gordon's ears. In the beam of the flashlight, Qin Wei saw a string of handcuffs being thrown over.
But his roar attracted an uninvited guest.
The cyborg, shot by Brock, was retreating to lick its wound when Qin Wei's sudden shout immediately caught its attention.
The flashlight beam disappeared in a flash, and Qin Wei heard the crisp sound of the handcuffs hitting the ground. He tried to recall the location of the handcuffs, groping for them with his hands on the ground.
At the same time, the filter under my feet suddenly began to vibrate violently.
Something is approaching.
It stopped, hovering above his head.
The scorching gas sprayed onto Qin Wei's neck, which was soaked with sewage, and a putrid stench wafted into his nostrils. He held his breath and remained motionless, but his heart pounded like a drum.
Finally, his fingers touched the handcuffs, but they were stuck in the gaps of the filter screen and fell off with a gentle poke.
At the critical moment, Qin Wei lunged forward and hooked the falling handcuffs with his fingertips.
However, his commotion was so loud that even with the surrounding noise as cover, the cyborg still noticed the unusual sound.
It lowered its body, its two nostrils, like rotten strawberries, fluttering as it tried to pick out the scent of humans from the cacophony of smells.
Actually, it didn't need to go to such lengths; even taking just half a step forward would have been enough to crush Qin Wei's skull.
"You can't find me~ You can't find me~"
Qin Wei silently tried to hypnotize himself, and to his surprise, it actually worked. The cyborg stopped making any further progress, and his wildly beating heart gradually calmed down.
He naively thought he could escape this calamity.
But the hemp rope always breaks at the thinnest point, and one problem after another arises.
Suddenly, a stringy, smelly snot was poured onto his head.
Qin Wei could bear it, but the physical revulsion caused his stomach to spasm and his nausea to overwhelm his fear.
Qin Wei's face turned deathly pale. If he were to vomit at this critical moment, his life would probably be over.
He bit his lip hard, managing to suppress the urge to vomit.
But the snot seemed to have a mind of its own, and after disgusting Qin Wei, it continued to flow down his arm, seeping into the gap between the handcuffs and his fingers in the blink of an eye.
The handcuffs, lubricated by snot, were gradually slipping out of control.
Qin Wei's face was ashen. These handcuffs were their only hope of escaping; if they fell, it would be all over.
He tried to retrieve the handcuffs, but the slippery snot was no different from lubricant, and they would slip away every time he was about to grab them.
After rubbing against the filter holes for a long time, Qin Wei's wrists were covered in blood.
The cyborg also smelled the blood and moved its head closer and closer.
pat!
Qin Wei felt a lightness in his fingertips; after being repeatedly fooled, the god of fate had not let go of this unfortunate man.
The handcuffs and Qin Wei's anxious heart fell into darkness together.
"Ahhhhhhh!!!! I'm so stupid!"
He broke down, roaring wildly to vent his anger.
The cyborg was still searching for its target when it was startled by the loud roar in its ears and retreated repeatedly, but it quickly recovered.
What's so scary about food?
It stretched out its large, furry hand and grabbed Qin Wei.
Hearing the roar, Brock realized Qin Wei was in grave danger. In his panic, he turned his gun around but overlooked the cyborg lurking in the shadows, attempting a sneak attack. Bang! With a muffled thud, he was struck by the monster's long arm and collapsed to the ground, his fate unknown.
The cyborg opened its blood-red maw, and under the light, Qin Wei saw two rows of large, yellow teeth covered in cavities, and a stench assaulted his nostrils.
The aura of death permeated the entire venue at that moment.
Just when everyone was in despair, a beam of light shot out from a hole in the well wall, breaking the darkness.
Then two gunshots rang out.
One shot entered through the mouth and exited through the jaw, startling the cyborg into hastily pushing Qin Wei aside. Another shot was fired at the cyborg that was attacking Brock, the bullet piercing the monster's eardrum and penetrating deep into its brain.
The monster's expression turned ferocious. Stimulated by the excruciating pain, it abandoned its pursuit of Gordon and, like a mad bull, clutched its head and thrashed about until it died.
Upon witnessing the killing of their companion, the cyborg dared not make any rash moves.
"Gentlemen, are you truly incapable of anything without women?"
A melodious and cheerful female voice echoed in the well.
