Chapter 962 Not Human

Peter left the battle outside to the others and rushed into the base to check the situation. According to the plan, the shrunken Janet and Pym were supposed to infiltrate the base undetected, activate the self-destruct sequence, and escape.

But what about people now?

Fearing for their safety, Peter used the Suspension Gate to throw Weapon X and Weapon VI back to Asgard for Thor to handle, then rushed into the base himself. The base was a scene of utter devastation, with numerous fully equipped soldiers' corpses lying sprawled nearby, as if a massacre had taken place.

Peter frowned as he continued forward, sending out some spider-like reconnaissance robots to check the situation. He discovered that most of the facilities within the base had been vandalized.

So, someone beat them to it and smashed this place up first? Nimrod certainly didn't need to, and Stryker is dead too. Wait, Nimrod killed Stryker because he was a potential mutant, but what about these soldiers? Did he kill them?

Or is it someone else?

Peter walked into the lab while thinking, and then saw the two missing people. Unexpectedly, both the Ultimate Wasp and the Ultimate Ant-Man were stuffed into jars and soaking. Peter quickly operated the computer to see if he could release them, and then noticed the analysis report on the computer's homepage.

More precisely, it was a series of analyses that caught Peter's attention. Peter paused for a moment, then began searching the computer's data: "This data—is the DNA of the Ultimate Universe different from ours, or rather, the DNA of humans in this universe? Not only between mutants and humans, but also between humans, and even between mutants?"

Peter then heard footsteps. He turned around and saw Rasputin walking towards him with a smile, followed by a bodyguard dressed like Superman from the movie "The New Superman".

The other person continued, "However, the tests for mutants are still valid, which means that we and the humans in this—the ultimate universe you're talking about—are essentially the same kind of beings, but our genes have been artificially modified."

After saying that, Rasputin looked at Peter with genuine admiration: "You have inherited your father's talent, keen attention, and the ability to find the most crucial information from complex data at a glance. This is a precious quality."

Peter heard something very important and straightened up to look at the other person: "I thought you were just some kind of ominous person from another universe—Mr. Ominous, you're the ominous person of our universe?! But you shouldn't be eligible to participate, did Doom invite you?"

"Of course not, I have other ways to get in."

Rasputin laughed, then suddenly seemed unwell and vomited up a razor blade, which he then held in his hand: "You know what? We hadn't left our pathetic cages before, so I never noticed this until now. I've finally realized one thing: humans are indeed special. Long before we fully evolved into humans, we were modified—a miraculous modification. Herbert was right, damn it. We were chosen by God. God gave humanity unlimited potential—whether it's mutants, ordinary humans transformed into superhumans, or the Inhumans modified by the Kree, the reason we have such power is because that ancient god bestowed upon us—the most primal potential."

"And if we master this technology, we will become gods, Parker."

Peter knew the truth behind what the ominous sign was saying: for most of the Marvel universe, their humans were modified by the Celestials in ancient times, thus gaining special powers. The X-gene, the Inhumans' potential for modification, and the Eternals and Deviants all originated from this.

It could even be argued that humans in the Marvel Universe and real-world humans are no longer the same species. And theoretically, if everyone is not originally human, there would be no way to discover this.

With one exception: the Old Ultimate Universe 1610. This universe has no Celestial story, no modified humans, and their DNA sequences are completely different from those of humans in other worlds. It is because of this that the Omen discovered this anomaly.

Peter ignored Ominous's words; his only intention was to kill him here and rescue the two men. But the moment his hand touched the keyboard, an unexpected spider silk spun around and stuck to his fingers. Peter looked incredulously at Rasputin's bodyguard and used his internal energy to shatter the silk.

"I'm not like you, it's an ominous sign. I hate clones."

The ominous figure chuckled, ordering his bodyguards to stand before him, ready to exchange a few blows with Peter, while he himself stepped aside and shaved his beard. "You know," he said, "Spider-Man was initially in charge of the Savage Force project, so I have a complete grasp of how the entire project would unfold. Of course, there's also the data analysis from various friends. But ultimately, my thinking differs from Hydra's or the US government's. I don't need a super army. I just need a perfect body."

"And you are that perfect prototype. No matter what kind of mutations and fusions you undergo, your body can withstand them. Your DNA will not collapse due to excessive external pollution and mutations. You are simply the chosen one, Parker."

"Theoretically, you can't clone me."

"Because your DNA is a complete mess? Sure, without a doubt, but what I need is an original, a container. Your DNA before you became Spider-Man isn't that hard to come by."

"And I can create my own invincible Spider-Man."

Peter glanced at the bodyguard, sighed, and shrugged helplessly: "An invincible Spider-Man? I wouldn't even dare say I'm invincible, I think—"

Before Peter could finish speaking, the other person sprinted towards him at super speed, so fast that it startled Peter, but it didn't exceed his reflexes at all. He instantly activated the extreme speed mode of his suit, then exchanged a punch with the other person, sending him flying.

It's that familiar feel—

Peter took a deep breath and glanced at the grotesque man shaving his Russian beard: "Are Adamantium and healing factor worthless these days?"

"It is indeed very expensive. Considering the cost, this is the only one I can afford to build, but it's enough."

As the bodyguard, with his steel frame, stood up, Peter shrugged helplessly. It seemed there was still a fight ahead.
