Chapter 1005 Carefully Selected

When Loki, as an NPC, handed out mysterious gadgets to everyone, Peter thought about his previous appearances and found it very strange.

The last time I saw him was at the Concord Engine. In that desolate place, Loki played an important NPC role, responsible for introducing Peter to the basic functions of the Concord Engine and guiding him to access it. It was there that Peter gained knowledge about the Concord Engine.

Now Loki has gone even further, taking charge of coordinating everyone's work. The Beyonder lent him his power to help protect the contestants, deceiving the now omniscient and omnipotent Doom, and then entrusted Loki with all the resources he had gathered, making him responsible for once again carefully selecting those willing to oppose God-King Doom.

So how exactly did Loki gain the trust of the Beyonders and become their messenger?

When faced with this question, Loki didn't offer much explanation. He simply stated it all in one sentence: "The Beyonder can see what each of us sees after contacting the Concorde Engine. Spider-Man, he saw yours, and he saw mine, so he thought I would be the one to help him, or at least that's what he thought."

"But whatever he thinks, now—"

As soon as Loki finished speaking, countless clones of him appeared before each contestant, asking them the same question: "Do you intend to return to your own world, or do you intend to fight Doom?"

The same question was asked of Peter, who replied almost without hesitation: "I will stay."

"Ah, that's not a surprising answer at all. Although you probably know that Doom will indeed create a perfect world, at least for a considerable number of people, that doesn't stop you from opposing it, right?"

Before Loki could finish speaking, the Hydra captain nodded very seriously: "That's right, I will stop him, just as Rousseau said: Man is born free."

Even Loki was completely dumbfounded at this moment, because he knew very well that the person in front of him was Captain Hydra, a counterpart of Steve Rogers who only existed after joining the Hydra world. And you're telling me that Hydra's Supreme Leader said that man is born free?

The next line of this statement is "yet everywhere they are in chains," meaning that people are only truly free at birth, outside of society. Once they enter society, they are subject to a series of invisible constraints, including morality, law, and social customs. This is a fundamental tenet of *The Social Contract*.

The Snake team looked at Peter with considerable admiration: "Isn't it a bit too early for you to be reading 'The Social Contract' at your age, kid?"

""

"At least it would make it easier for me to understand what you're thinking. Since people live in chains, why not let Hydra become that chain, wouldn't you say?"

The Snake team simply smiled and didn't say much. Meanwhile, Emperor Thanos also gave a positive answer; most of the villains willing to stay and fight Doom had essentially the same reason.

The world is only so big. If you rule the world, what are we supposed to do?!

Many of the remaining villains chose to return home. To prevent information from the multiverse from interfering with the stability of other universes, they would not remember the details of the secret war upon returning to their own worlds, including who they had met. They would only remember that they had participated in a large-scale battle royale competition and met many people from other universes.

This is precisely the essence of secret warfare: a war unknown to anyone, a war whose details are unclear to everyone.

Many heroes stayed behind, for a variety of reasons, especially the heroes Peter had met in the Secret Wars. Even the heroes from the Ultimate Universe stayed. After discussing it, Peter suggested, "We have a safe place over there—although it's not absolutely safe facing Doom, it's more secure than here. Perhaps we can all go there."

Most of the people present had no objections—to be precise, there were only five non-heroes left: Loki, Lord Loki, and the Snake Team. Only Emperor Thanos left with his henchman, the Cosmic Ghost Rider, unwilling to go with the others.

Peter then looked at Loki and said, "Since you can communicate across the entire Battle World, could you also send this message and call everyone else in the Battle World over?"

Loki shrugged. "Alright, I'll go inform them. You guys better get the Rainbow Bridge ready, and Heimdall too. You need at least one person like Heimdall who can see the whole world, right?"

Peter readily agreed: "No problem, we really do have some."

Battle Realm: Asgard.

On this ruin, Professor Charles Xavier finally played his role. With the help of the portable brainwave device he brought, he used his brainwaves to cover the entire Battle Realm, thus guiding everyone who was willing to join the fight against Doom to come here through the Rainbow Bridge opened by Father Thor.

"Most of the people who come to this place are superheroes, and most of the villains left with Emperor Thanos."

As Loki watched the crowd gather, he confided a piece of gossip to Peter: "Also, I've already given the Infinity Gauntlet and the Infinity Stones to Emperor Thanos. After all, I don't think anyone is more suited to use them than him."

After a brief moment of silence, Peter retorted to Loki, "You're just giving this out like this? I thought there would be some kind of standard. Before, at least you had to redeem it with points, but now you don't even have any points left?"

"Before, it was all about points; now it's all about me, my friend. See, Captain Universe is still you, isn't he?"

Loki laughed, and Peter, watching the growing number of heroes gathering, couldn't help but recall a point Anansi had raised earlier: none of the Spider Legion had been invited to the Secret Wars, and considering the current situation he was observing...

"No Venom, and besides the guy Otto brought in who slaughtered Spider-Man, there wasn't any other slaughter." Peter casually mentioned this before looking at Loki: "Did they all run away?"

"Uh, no, we don't have those things."

So the Beyonders were indeed intentionally preventing symbiotes from entering this area. Anti-Venom could be considered an exception, but what about Black Death Sword? Did the Beyonders not know that Black Death Sword was a symbiote? Or were they deliberately left behind?

Then, Peter heard a rather unexpected voice, or rather, the words spoken by that voice.

"Doom has seized the power of the Skywalker?! Not again?!"
