Chapter 498 Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps

Chapter 498 Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps

Hal Jordan, or Harold Jordan, is a North American military fighter pilot and now the only lone hero from the military in the airspace over Metropolis.

Originally just a test pilot for a military supplier, not part of the combat force, the war between the Amazons and the Atlanteans changed many things.

For example, it allows someone like him to step onto the battlefield and make a name for himself, so that at this moment, a spectacular battle can be staged in the airspace of Earth, which is full of Kryptonians.

This is not surprising, as HAL has always been one of the best pilots.

—All of this was information that Martian manhunter gleaned from his own mind during a brief period of probing.

He was indeed the best, good enough to pilot the new aircraft and evade the Kryptonians' pursuit, but that was all he could do.

"Turn around, Hal."

Martian Manhunter's voice rang directly in Hal's mind. Unless the opponent also possessed telepathic abilities, he would not usually probe into the other party's mind so directly.

But the situation is different now, and all the Martian hunter wants to do is save the other person's life.

These Earthlings had no idea how many tricks these Kryptonians had up their sleeves; the encirclement and suppression from the outside was just a simple appetizer.

Entering the inner circle of the battlefield, he would face annihilation in an instant.

"Who's speaking?" Hal gripped the control lever, his finger already hovering over the bomb release button. "If it's some kind of God, then you've come a little too late!"

"Who I am is not important; what matters is that this kind of attack is meaningless except for costing you your life."

With time running out, Martian Manhunter had to use his telepathic abilities to take control of Hal's arm, causing the fighter jet, which was already in aiming posture, to pull upwards: "You should return now, just for Carol's sake."

"Who are you?!" Hal stared in horror as his hands began to twist the lever uncontrollably. Hearing the name Carol filled him with even greater terror: "Get out of my head!"

Carol Ferris, Hal Jordan's girlfriend and superior at the arms supplier company, is someone Hal doesn't know how Martian Manhunter knows the name, but he knows that some supernatural force must have invaded his mind.

"Don't do that, Hal—" Martian Manhunter pleaded gently, "I mean you no harm!"

If Martian Manhunter wanted to, he could easily unearth the other man's childhood nightmares, such as the story of HAL's father's tragic death in a plane crash, to trigger the deepest fears in the other man's heart and completely break HAL.

But all he had to do was keep this reckless yet excellent pilot alive, so he was simply wrestling with Hal's mind for control of the control stick.

"I won't say it a third time. Get it out of my head!"

Hal, whose mind had been suppressed by the Martian hunter from afar, suddenly unleashed unimaginable power, forcefully expelling the unprepared Martian hunter from his mental world: "This attack was pointless?"

When his nation, his planet, was invaded, as a soldier, he had to fulfill his duty: "No, this attack itself is meaningful!"

The Martian hunter in the distance snapped out of his reverie in the blink of an eye, his expression even showing disbelief.

"How could an ordinary human being from Earth, without any special training, be able to expel a Martian from the realm of the mind in an instant?"

Ron Jungs had to admit that the "best one" Hal Jordan mentioned in his memory wasn't just self-aggrandizement; this person truly was the best among them.

pity----

Martian Manhunter's conversation with Hal took place in his mind, but Hal spoke it aloud. Now, the Kryptonians know that their negotiations have fallen apart.

Given this outcome, it's not hard to predict what they will do.

Unaware of what was about to happen, Hal was struck by two deep red high-energy rays. Fiora's thermal vision pierced through the fighter's engine and cockpit, causing thick smoke and flames to erupt from the front and rear of the fuselage.

Hal and his fighter jet lost aerodynamic balance in an instant. Without thrust, he plummeted straight down. The intense dizziness prevented him from even uttering a "Mayday."

The speed at which heat vision hits is almost calculated at the speed of light. No matter how elite the pilot or how advanced the fighter jet, they are utterly vulnerable in the face of the truly elite and deadly Kryptonians.

As the reckless plane spun and plummeted downwards, Joe Al nodded slightly and muttered to himself, "It's about time."

Because at this moment, although the plane Hal was piloting was crashing, the direction of the crash was no longer downwards from their side.

From the Metropolis's perspective, HAL's aircraft is clearly ascending.

In other words, he crashed toward New York.

The collision between the two Earths has come so close that gravity in some areas has begun to affect each other.

Both Earths are in imminent danger.

That's exactly the effect Joe Al wanted.

After a dizzying spin, Hal heard two loud bangs; it seemed his fighter jet had crashed into something.

Joey, carrying the lamp burner from New York City to the Metropolis, had only been in the air for a short time when he saw a fighter jet crashing from the sky. With the lamp burner in his hands, he was inconvenienced, so he reached out and tapped it lightly, using his bio-field to slow down the plane's kinetic energy, before Batman took over.

After using the Green Light Ring projection to stop the out-of-control plane, Batman quickly pried open the cockpit. Upon seeing the pilot's face inside, even the usually composed Batman was momentarily taken aback: "Hal."

Hal Jordan, in the Batman universe, besides Guy Gardner, is the Green Lantern who left the deepest impression on Batman, the greatest Green Lantern.

"What's going on today?" Hal, locked firmly in the cockpit due to mechanical failure, tried to break free of his safety harness. "How come every stranger I've never met knows me?! You don't happen to know that my fiancée is Joanna Woodward, do you?"

"Hmm~" Batman didn't say anything. After all, who would fall for such obvious platitudes?

But Joey, oblivious to Hal and Batman's petty suspicions, immediately exclaimed in surprise, "It's not Carol Ferris?"

Hal gave a knowing look: "Ha! You guys actually knew!"

He was just a military pilot, so how come so many big shots like Batman and Superman in Gotham knew him? And it wasn't just a simple acquaintance, but the kind of acquaintance that was like flipping through his family tree.

Could it be that I am some kind of legendary chosen one, like Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, attracting the attention of many big shots, waiting for a mysterious owl to descend from the sky and deliver an invitation straight to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry?

Batman knew that Hal Jordan, despite his serious injuries, had started to have wild thoughts, and in the short time that followed, his mind had been wandering from Star Wars to Harry Potter.

At this moment, there was a charred wound on the left shoulder of the opponent, which could be considered a fatal one. This kind of penetrating charred wound was most likely caused by a heat-induced injury.

At this moment, probably due to the effects of adrenaline, Hal, who was lost in thought, began to breathe rapidly, but he hadn't felt any pain at all.

"Then let's skip the longer vows and procedures for now —"

At this point, neither Batman nor anyone else had time to slowly heal him; they could only rely on him.

"Hal Jordan from Earth"

So, Batman, deciding to grab a replacement on the spot, pulled Hal out of the cockpit without hesitation, and immediately slipped a green lantern ring onto Hal's hand: "Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps!"
