Chapter 488 Extinguishing the Flames
Chapter 488 Extinguishing the Flames
When Jor-El discovered the anomaly in Krypton's core, his first thought was naturally to report it to the High Council.
The Supreme Council's indifference forced Joe Al to seek other solutions after several setbacks, so he thought of asking for help from outside.
The Kryptonian society at that time was not completely closed off; they had channels for communication with the outside world, but they simply did not engage in exploration or colonization.
However, it was this appeal to the "round table council" in the universe that truly brought Krypton to the brink of destruction.
Apasa didn't even need to lift a finger or give specific instructions. Many members of the Round Table Council were long-lived races, and Krypton, an ancient civilization that had caused significant damage to the surrounding star systems, left a deep impression on them.
For them, Krypton's renewed exploration of outer space and its outward expansion have consequences that no one can afford, so many people are wondering if it should just be buried in the dustbin of history.
With Apasa's tacit approval, the members of the Round Table hired interstellar mercenaries to infiltrate Krypton and fully activate its unstable core, shortening what could have been a catastrophe lasting decades or even centuries to just over a decade.
How could you do this?!
This secret about Krypton was thus revealed, and the first to be enraged after hearing it was the Guardian Ganther.
The whole situation was far uglier than he had imagined. No Guardian had ever annihilated a civilization that had come to them for help. He roared at Apasa, "This is not how we Guardians behave!"
Now everything makes sense, explaining why Apsa had always been so hostile towards any Kryptonian, even Superman, who could have been a friend.
He was blinded by the prejudice brought about by distant memories, to the possibility that a better outcome could have been achieved.
Although Ganther also had to do things when he was forced to, the existence of the Green Martians is enough to prove that when he had a choice, he was still willing to be a good person.
Otherwise, all Ganther needed to do back then was to exterminate all those burning Martians. Why did he have to leave them with a fear of fire so they could continue to live?
From Jor-El and Apasa's tone, Ganther could tell that Krypton was far from needing to make difficult choices back then.
The Earth's core crisis that erupted so rapidly after its discovery was entirely due to people like Apasa stirring things up behind the scenes!
If all they had done was help the Kryptonians resolve the Earth's core crisis, they could have achieved a win-win outcome. Why did the entire universe end up like this?
"You have no right to criticize me, Ganther!"
Apasa was somewhat embarrassed and annoyed by Ganser's accusations. He couldn't stand Ganser's hypocrisy any longer: "Don't forget who instructed Abin Su to ignore other life on Earth and only retrieve the Spirit of Existence, and who was it that suggested forcibly breaking through Earth with Solaris to extract the Spirit of Existence!"
Once you cross the line, you'll cross it again and again, until the line gets lower and lower until it no longer exists. Apasa has lived long enough to personally prove this truth: "The only reason you haven't become like me is because you haven't lived long enough!"
"Are you all done arguing?" Jor-El was getting impatient. "Let's settle this—first Tamaran, then Lann, the Senagan Eaglemen, and the Gandernor—"
The names that Jor-El reported were all the seats where Jor-El was present when he sought help from the Cosmic Round Table Council.
He was no longer interested in knowing which civilized person present had done the dirty work. As long as he checked the list one by one, there would be no omissions.
The concept of retaliation is a fundamental idea that almost every normal civilization develops in its earliest primitive stages, and Krypton is no exception.
Therefore, in the still primitive and barbaric interstellar society of the universe, it is only natural that civilizations that attempt to commit acts of extermination against others should be exterminated as they deserve.
Since other races in the universe want the Kryptonians dead, then they will retaliate in kind, using their burning flames of revenge to ignite all 3600 sectors of the universe!
Of course, in the end, it will be the very center of the universe, the planet Oa, where the guardians of the universe reside. Before Oa pays a bloody price, the Kryptonians' fire of revenge will never be extinguished!
Even though Joey was far away, he heard the whole story of Krypton's impending destruction. Now he understood why Tamaran was completely destroyed by the Kryptonians, leaving only Starfire as the sole survivor.
The Kryptonians' massive conquest that swept across the entire universe was not simply a military expansion, but a brutal act of revenge.
This is why these Kryptonian armies act so decisively in everything they do, just like when they fired on Mogo or Earth without hesitation.
Such a race, which has risen from the brink of hell, naturally possesses an army that, under Jor El's deliberate shaping, is capable of anything.
"Son, haven't you changed your mind yet?"
Jor El seemed to be talking to himself, but he knew that Karl El, who was still trying to destroy the Starchild in space, could hear him: "After knowing all this, you still won't come to help your own people?"
No matter how imaginative Joey was, he never expected that the little blue man could get involved in Krypton's destruction. He truly is an old thief who never dies.
The Kryptonian Empire, now swept across the universe in a bloody storm of revenge, truly proves the old assessment of the universe's guardians to be absolutely correct: at least half of the disasters that have occurred in the universe are caused by these damned little blue men's own folly.
"Revenge, it is indeed a sweet and wonderful thing, but—" Joey thus spoke to Jor-El across time, "but when will it end?"
In its current state, the Kryptonian vehicle will crush everything in its path of conquest until the very end.
But when will it be the end? When will it finally stop?
To the Kryptonians, who were nearly wiped out, perhaps this would only end when the entire universe is completely quiet and there is no more noise from other races.
This is truly a mess of debts.
The complex situation that has been exposed makes Joey feel like he is still the war correspondent he once was. When it comes to politics, even interstellar politics, there is never an absolute right or wrong.
And those who suffer the most are always the weak who have no ability to protect themselves.
The clash between these two great civilizations, and the Martian rampage, will only bring immeasurable death to Earth, this primitive civilization.
Joey was quite certain that what was happening on Earth had already occurred on Tamaran and other planets inhabited by various civilizations.
"I told you—when we all become gods!"
Jor-El remained fixated on his plan to become a god. In his vision, only after ascending to godhood and no longer being mere mortal Kryptonians would he truly feel safe: "Only by becoming gods can we Kryptonians truly escape the threat of extinction and truly exist!"
"Becoming a god will never be the final answer, even if gods are as good as you say."
Joey doesn't have the same obsession with becoming a god as Jor-El. Godhood is just a phase, not the so-called final destination.
Kryptonians are already like gods to most races, yet they are still striving to improve.
Moreover, even gods don't exist forever. If that's the case, then: "When did you ever see Raoh?"
Who still knows where Raoh, the ancient god worshipped by Kryptonians, is now?
The argument between the father and son wasn't about reasoning, but about stating their positions—and neither could convince the other before the final outcome.
As they were talking, Joey unleashed another thunderous roar, sending a shockwave that repelled the Kryptonian minions that were trying to surround him in space, before diving headfirst down towards Metropolis.
Seeing that Krypton's super warship, capable of destroying a planet with a single blow, no longer appeared in the material world, Joey, having lost his target, had no choice but to change his target and rush towards the burning flames.
He couldn't concern himself with the affairs between the Guardians and the Kryptonians; he had to deal with the rapidly multiplying Burning Martians first.
The flames of revenge may never be extinguished, but surely the Martians' fire will eventually be put out?
