Chapter 579 Willfulness

After pacing back and forth at the door for a long time, Dick finally decided to knock on the captain's cabin door.

A moment later, the door opened.

Peggy hid behind the crack in the door and looked up at Dick.

The two looked at each other, then Peggy asked, "Is something wrong?"

"Is something the matter? I'm fine, it's just—"

Dick blurted out, but immediately changed his mind, "I have something to do."

"What is it?"

"I want to examine that girl," Dick said.

Peggy immediately frowned: "Are you so used to peeping at young girls' bodies?"

“Peggy, you know I’m a knight, I won’t do anything that would be against my status,” Dick said. “I just want to check on her condition, and if possible, maybe I can rescue her from those purple crystals.”

"Say what you want."

Peggy stopped arguing, stepped aside, and let Dick in.

But this only made Dick more uneasy; this wasn't the Peggy he knew.

Dick didn't think too much about it and went into the captain's cabin to the transparent crystal.

Although he had obtained the material some time ago, Dick still had no idea how to destroy it.

It is incredibly hard; even an iron sword cannot budge it.

Perhaps brute force can solve all problems, but will that force also be transmitted to the girl's body?

Dick couldn't make a judgment, but he dared not gamble.

If salvation becomes persecution, then his actions lose their meaning.

Dick stood up from beside the crystal.

Well, there's nothing we can do for now. We should take it to the mainland and ask the professionals for help.

He looked around the room.

To be honest, the room was very clean, and everything was neatly arranged, so you could imagine that Peggy must tidy it up often.

Dick remembered his time at the Knights Academy, when he lived with the other apprentices.

Everywhere you look, there's the smell of sweat, body odor, and foot odor. There's a 70% chance that one person's socks will be found in another person's wine glass.

However, no one cared, because as long as they could taste the sweet wine, the stench became less unbearable.

Of course, how can you compare those people to Peggy?

"What are you looking at?" Peggy suddenly asked.

Dick snapped out of his daze: "It's nothing."

"Have you finished your checkup?" Peggy asked.

"Hmm—" Dick suddenly felt a little embarrassed. "That's about enough."

"Then let's go," Peggy urged Dick to leave.

This sense of unfamiliarity made Dick very uncomfortable.

Although they were originally a lady and a knight, they were not supposed to be intimate.

However, for some reason, that feeling of frustration made Dick extremely irritable.

Dick couldn't help but ask, "Peggy, are you angry?"

"I'm not angry," Peggy said, bowing her head slightly. "I won't be angry."

"But you don't seem quite right," Dick said.

"What would make me normal?" Peggy looked at Dick sadly. "Dick, what would make me normal?"

These words calmed Dick down, and he realized that he might have asked a question he shouldn't have.

"Sorry, Peggy, I was just being nosy."

"No," Peggy turned her head, "I was just too willful."

Dick frowned. "You shouldn't be so self-deprecating."

"I did get a little too carried away," Peggy sighed.

Dick asked, "Why do you think that?"

"I thought that no matter what I did, you would protect me, but it wasn't until I saw that expression that I realized that nothing is a given."

Hearing this, Dick felt a pang of sadness: "I'm sorry, Peggy, I shouldn't have shown you that—"

"—Hate? Or murderous intent?" Peggy chimed in.

"I'm sorry, I didn't recognize you. I'm using a secret technique that allows me to obtain more information, but it also makes it difficult for me to see your face clearly."

“I understand, Dick, you don’t need to apologize,” Peyton sighed. “I was just thinking that you weren’t acting right then.”

"That's right," Dick nodded repeatedly, "I am a little abnormal, so don't worry about it—"

"—But what's making you act this way?" Peggy interrupted Dick. "It's me, Dick. I know. To you, I'm a burden, but also your mission. You're constantly under pressure, which is why you're using powers you've never used before. I've been too willful, and it's my willfulness that has made you like this."

Dick shook his head repeatedly: "No, Peggy, it has nothing to do with you—"

"It's related," Peggy's voice was unusually firm. "You've done so much, and all I've done is throw tantrums."

"I'm sorry, Dick, I won't do it again. From now on, I'll wait for you on the ship and won't hold you back anymore. Afterwards, if you want to send me back to the harbor, or take me directly to Red Wave Fortress, I won't have any complaints—"

Dick seemed to hear a series of chirps, "buzzing," "buzzing," which didn't seem to be the shout of the waves or the sound of the wood; it was the manifestation of Dick's tension.

That seems to be just tinnitus.

But why? Dick wondered, why did he suddenly have tinnitus?

Why do I feel depressed?

He looked at Peggy, and for some reason, he felt he had to say something.

"Listen to me, Peggy, you are indeed my mission, but you are not a burden."

"But I'm clearly in your way—"

"No, you do not have great power in the traditional sense, and I do get distracted because of you, but that doesn't mean you are a burden. The difference is that I must keep you by my side, and your weakness is also part of my mission."

"But it was clearly my choice to follow you. If I hadn't smuggled myself into your boat—"

“But I knew it from the start,” Dick said. “Did you think I didn’t guess it was you in the box?”

"This is just you tolerating my willfulness."

Dick shook his head repeatedly: "But I felt very relieved after I was sure you were coming. Do you understand, Peggy? I'm also looking forward to you coming."

"————"

Peggy responded, her mouth slightly open, her eyes fixed intently on Dick.

Whether it was because she had felt too ashamed before or something else, her cheeks were slightly flushed.

"It's true, I really don't trust anyone else to protect you in my place."

Peggy's eyes, which she had forced open, slowly relaxed, and she gave a cold laugh: "Is it also because of a mission—"

"Yes, but you are my most cherished mission," Dick said, "the kind of mission I would abandon everything else to protect."

C

Even if it means betraying my brother?

Peggy, you're really giving me a hard time, but: "It was Hubert Payton who gave me everything, not Peña Payton."

"But one day, you will give me to my fiancé."

"But I also swear that I will never leave you until you get married."

Peggy's expression seemed to brighten considerably. She looked up at Dick and asked, "What if I—don't want to go?"

"Peggy," Dick said with a hint of helplessness, "that's your home. You can't wander around like this forever, can you?"

"But I just don't want to go!" Peggy took a step towards Dick. "I'm going to take advantage of your sense of duty and responsibility towards me, doing whatever I want with impunity!"

Dick smiled wryly: "A true knight never complains about the twists and turns of his mission."

"Hehehe—" Peggy covered her mouth and laughed.

Seeing Peggy brighten up, Dick breathed a sigh of relief, but he still asked, "Peggy, what are you laughing at?"

"A true knight" and all that? That sounds like something only you would say.

"Really?" Dick smiled and shrugged.

At this moment, Peggy extended her right hand and her little finger.

Dick tilted his head in confusion.

"Pinky promise!" Peggy said. "Let's pinky promise!"

Dick shook his head: "A knight's oath must be sworn under the sword."

"But all I want is a pinky promise!"

Upon hearing this, Dick felt rather helpless.

Okay—Dick extended his finger and hooked it around Peggy's little finger.

After the ceremony that Peggy had been so focused on was completed, she had fully recovered: "Then I can be completely unrestrained, you know?"

Dick had a bad feeling: "Peggy, please have mercy—"

"No!" Peggy's face broke into a wicked grin. "But then again, are you still planning to carry out your mission on this island?"

"If you want me to give up—"

"I don't want you to give up anything for me!" Peggy said solemnly.

Dick was somewhat surprised by Peggy's statement. After a moment, he came to his senses and smiled, "I have a lead, Peggy. I plan to leave tomorrow morning."

Peggy took another small step forward, looking up at Dick with anticipation in her eyes: "Can I come along too?"

'

"I hope you can come," Dick said. "This time, just the two of us—"
