Chapter 638 Why are there double standards everywhere?

Proteus was speechless.

He was certainly not a good person. The flaws in his superpowers constantly forced Proteus to possess the bodies of different humans, thus allowing him to learn about the evil deep within their hearts. The malice in the hearts of humans, in turn, forced Proteus to despise them, forming a vicious cycle.

Proteus felt no guilt about killing humans, but persecuting mutants was another matter entirely.

It was Professor X who disregarded past grievances and brought him to Krakow; it was Hope's enhancements that allowed him to exist in this world for so long.

The mutant leaders had never done anything bad to him, so in the end, all he could do was mutter, "I'm doing this for the good of the mutants."

He dared not retaliate loudly, because Proteus knew he was deceiving himself.

He was well aware that he was still essentially persecuting mutants, but in Proteus's understanding, that was all there was to it.

What Proteus didn't know was that he and the organization behind him had artificially created a new caste system, dividing classes based on the terms "second generation" and "born," and the harm caused by this was far beyond the imagination of all mutants.

Rune could easily imagine the future of mutants—if they have any future, they will surely perish because of this system.

Proteus's so-called patch to prevent second-generation mutants from rebelling by eliminating self-awareness was not properly implemented.

From their previous conversations, Rune could tell that Rasputin had developed a certain degree of self-awareness, and this awakening was difficult to detect, let alone suppress. In the foreseeable future, the physical version of the Iron Man's rebellion was almost unstoppable.

Just as Rune was about to strike, a majestic voice rang out.

Several figures emerged from the wall of mutants that had formed around them, and no mutant dared to stop them.

The middle-aged man at the head of the group was dressed in a black suit. He was tall, handsome, and had sharp, eagle-like eyes. He also wore a confident and arrogant smile and exuded a powerful aura.

From the whispers of the mutants around him, Rune learned the man's identity—Sebastian Shaw, the Black King, a rather terrifying man who could absorb all forms of energy and convert them into his own.

This energy can be released directly to form attacks such as shockwaves, or it can be directly converted into physical enhancement. What's more, Xiao also knows exquisite fighting techniques and is quite intelligent.

Beside the Black Emperor are a man dressed in Japanese clothing with a red mask, a man in strange attire with a red crystal on his forehead, a Russian-American blond man in red armor, and a scantily clad blond woman.

Rune immediately recognized three of them: Gorgon Stone Island Tomiichi, Red Omega, and Mr. Sinister, but the identity of the last woman was really hard to discern.

"So, it was you who came up with the draft bill to enslave second-generation mutants, and even got it passed in the Council of Tranquility!" Rune chuckled, somewhat surprised, but also quite reasonable.

Although it is unknown what the Black King's counterpart is mainly responsible for, in the original comics, the Black King's main duty is to export medicine made from the Krako flower overseas in exchange for huge profits to purchase necessary food.

In other words, he has the ability to obtain large sums of money or certain specific items to bribe other members of parliament.

"Great Mage, I know you are angry about Mr. Logan being injured, but please calm down. There may be a misunderstanding." Sebastian slowly stepped forward, a fake smile on his face.

He had absorbed magic power before, and thus knew about Rune's profession. He always had plenty of patience when facing such a powerful figure who could suppress Proteus so badly.

However, the Black King was still quite resentful. Sebastian hadn't come here on his own initiative; it was because the other Black Kings had given him a good "advice" with their fists, which was why he was so late.

"Misunderstanding?" Rune raised an eyebrow and chuckled softly, his laughter carrying a chilling undertone. Dark magic immediately responded to its master's will and began to surge.

The Black Emperor and his party were forced to retreat slightly by this oppressive aura, but Sebastian dared not absorb this magic power, lest he anger this powerful mage.

"This is no misunderstanding, Sebastian. Logan is someone I value, but Proteus almost killed him. I'm just trying to get revenge now."

"Sir, you can't say that," the blonde, sexy woman beside the Black Emperor stepped forward and said with feigned elegance. "Proteus acted impulsively; he didn't mean to hurt Mr. Logan. Besides, Mr. Logan is out of danger now, isn't he?"

Rune sneered. He'd finally seen a hypocrite. "So, if I accidentally killed you right now, I could just say it was a momentary impulse. After all, you still have the rebirth agreement, you can be resurrected, right?"

The Black King glared at the White Queen on the other side. Emma had betrayed him before because of Namor, and now she had betrayed the mutants again, telling this sorcerer the core secrets of Krakor. She was simply guilty of an unforgivable crime!

The Wasteland White Queen simply sneered, "Don't look at me like that. I didn't tell him about this. He once suspected he was a mutant, maybe one of his mutant parents told him."

At this point, Emma coldly retorted, "Perhaps this is the result of the sins you committed in your younger years."

"You!" Black King wanted to retort, but since he arrived in Krakoa, the other Sebastians had already popularized the second generation of mutants, and the problem of mutant trading had long since disappeared.

But he ultimately didn't say it.

Why not just admit it? Black King didn't want to become the target of everyone's criticism, so for now he could only swallow this bitter pill.

Black King snorted and turned to look at Rune, explaining, "We do have our purposes, but it's all for the future of mutants. As for the Craftsmen's robots—we don't want Sentinels appearing in Krakor yet."

"For the future of mutants? Naturally born mutants are mutants, but second-generation mutants are no longer mutants, right?" Rune questioned.

This statement resonated with many onlookers, many of whom had been members of the X-Men, but were not members of Congress and therefore unable to oppose the second-generation mutant's proposal.

However, many mutants expressed their opposition. These people were used to having second-generation mutants work for them and had benefited from the plan, which caused a lot of boos to mingle with the cheers at the scene.
