Chapter 623 The Wolf's Revenge

Chapter 623 The Wolf's Revenge (Part 1)

The winds of the wasteland, carrying sand and dust, swept past the retreating paths of Crossbones and the Imitation Master.

"Hmph! A bunch of cowards!" Crossbones sneered as he ran. "They actually hoped I wouldn't tell anyone about what happened here—foolish!"

However, in the next instant, the red soil beneath their feet trembled violently, and a black energy barrier suddenly rose up. The surface of the barrier was also flashing with unsettling red patterns, carrying a strong sense of oppression, blocking their path like a giant wall.

"Who?" Crossbones stopped abruptly, his eyes scanning his surroundings warily.

The Taskmaster tensed up, metal blades popping out from his arms, and optical lenses behind his mask rapidly scanning the environment, but they couldn't penetrate the barrier to find any trace of life.

hum!

The black barrier slowly dissipated, revealing two figures on a nearby earthen slope. The man on the left was hunched over, his worn-out denim jacket stained with sand and blood, while the man on the right appeared to be just an adult, handsome and slender, dressed in strange and ornate clothing.

Crossbones recognized the man on his left almost instantly, a mocking smile playing on his lips. "Logan—"

I thought you, you coward, would never dare to come out in your life—"

Logan's breathing was heavy and rapid, his steel claws had already pierced his skin, and blood was slowly flowing down. The years, radiation, and the God's punishment had greatly weakened his abilities.

But his eyes shone with an astonishing light, surging with boundless rage and determination—he was a lone wolf burning with everything for revenge: "With your frail body, you think you can stop us? You're really overestimating yourself." Crossbones glanced at the man beside Logan, a hint of apprehension in his eyes, but he remained defiant, "And you, whoever appeared out of nowhere, you'd better get out of the way, or we'll take care of you too."

Logan ignored Crossbones's taunts, staring intently at the two men before him, and demanded in a resentful voice, "Do you remember?"

"Remember what?"

Logan's teeth were bared. "Three years ago, you killed a woman, and three years later—you want to continue harming her child—"

"None of you are leaving here today!" Logan roared, taking a step forward, his steel claws flashing coldly in the sunlight.

Although somewhat surprised that Crossbones and Taskmaster dared to touch Wolf's wife, Rune still stood in his way, trying to make him rational, "Leave them to me, they're not worth wasting your life force on—"

"Get out of the way, mage!" His old face was shrouded in deep shadows, making it impossible to discern his expression. However, the boiling madness and killing intent emanating from him were palpable even to an ordinary person.

Even though he didn't want old Logan to fight to the death, Rune ultimately remained silent and made way for the angry wolf.

In some battles, it's best for bystanders not to get involved.

"If necessary, I will help you clean up the mess. Go on, your daughters will certainly receive the care they received during the golden age before the war," Rune added softly at the end.

Logan glanced at Rune and stepped forward again.

A faint "thank you" drifted on the wind; if Rune hadn't possessed superhuman perception, he might have thought he'd misheard.

"Finishing off?" Crossbones laughed wildly, as if he'd heard the funniest joke. "Logan, are you senile? In your current state, who can you possibly beat? Especially with the punishment the Divine Lord gave you, on this wasteland—"

No! In this entire fighting world, who doesn't know you?!

"And you, you sissy! After I kill this stray dog, I'll chop off your limbs and turn you into a human pig!" Crossbones sneered. "There are plenty of beautiful women, but a man as handsome as you—you're a hot commodity!"

Rune didn't say anything more; that one sentence was enough for him to sentence this idiot to death. It would be a waste to use an interjection on a dead dog.

These words reignited Logan's fury. Without uttering another word, the old wolf lunged forward.

Despite his hunched figure and slow speed compared to his youth, every step he took was filled with a do-or-die determination.

Crossbones pulled a small grenade launcher from his side, laughed maniacally, and pulled the trigger. The grenade arced through the air and exploded into the ground in front of Logan with a piercing whistle.

Given Logan's current regenerative abilities, a single hit would be enough to knock him down instantly.

With a deafening roar, dust filled the air and debris flew everywhere. The grenade didn't hit Logan directly; instead, Logan barely dodged the fatal blow thanks to his downgraded Beast Senses.

However, it wasn't just Crossbones that escaped this time.

Before Logan could regain his footing, Taskmaster pounced on him like a wild beast, his steel claws aimed straight for his chest. Logan's eyes narrowed, and he used both claws to block his opponent. The steel claws collided, producing a piercing hissing sound.

The sparks from the friction of metal illuminated his pale face. Logan could clearly feel the excruciating pain in his arm; his muscles were trembling violently, and he was almost unable to hold on.

But he held on!

"Taskmaster!" Logan roared, "You damned bastard! If it weren't for your and Crossbones' betrayal, the Helicarrier wouldn't have fallen so easily!"

Crossbones seized the opportunity to attack from the side, his carbon fiber boxing glove slamming into Logan's back. With a dull thud, Logan collapsed forward like a rag doll struck by a heavy hammer.

The Imitation Master took two steps back, watching as the old man used his claws to prop himself up.

Logan was in bad shape, but he still quickly pulled out his claws and forced back Taskmaster, who was trying to pounce on him again, but there was still Crossbones to deal with.

"Give up, Logan! If you were in your prime, I'd be torn to shreds by now!" Crossbones grinned menacingly, pressing forward relentlessly, each punch landing with tremendous force. "But now, you're no match for us!"

Logan struggled to parry the attacks, but his wounds multiplied. His denim jacket was torn, revealing a crisscrossing network of scars and new wounds underneath. Blood seeped out, staining his clothes and dripping onto the sand beneath his feet.

As for Taskmaster, he was like a shadow around Logan, sometimes taking the opportunity to attack Logan's vital points, and sometimes replicating Logan's fierce fighting style when he was young, making him extremely difficult to deal with.

Logan could only barely cope with the situation by relying on his dulled animal instincts and years of combat experience. His breathing became more and more rapid, and his vision was blurred by blood, but his comrades, his wife, and his daughters kept appearing in his mind.

It was this burning desire for revenge that sustained him and kept Logan from ever admitting defeat.
