Chapter 611 The Reunion of Captain America and Iron Man
That's right, Tony ate with Rune entirely for Steve's sake.
Steve Rogers is a typical idealist, and what's even more commendable is that he puts idealism into practice. He never compromises for justice, which sometimes makes Steve seem stubborn.
Tony Stark, on the other hand, believed in pragmatism. He was a genius in the field of mechanics, so he tended to use technology to solve systemic problems. He was also good at compromise and was willing to pay the price for a greater goal—even if that price was himself.
They were comrades-in-arms and friends, but also rivals due to ideological differences. Even without the Civil War, their conflict would have been inevitable, simply because Tony and Steve represented two completely opposite forms of heroism.
After everyone had eaten and drunk their fill, it was already late at night. Rune led them back to the sanctuary, preparing to open a portal to send Jaina and the others back. At this moment, the King also arrived beside Rune.
Wang glanced at Stark with surprise, then whispered in Rune's ear, "I just received a report that five mages have been found dead in a secret chamber."
Rune looked at the king with a strange expression.
"Why are you looking at me like that—oh—" Wang suddenly realized, then patted his head, "I didn't ask anything, I didn't hear anything, I don't know anything."
Rune snorted coldly, "There's nothing wrong with saying it. They decided to deal with me, so I killed them in advance. It's that simple."
Wang sighed.
In any world, mages are a scarce resource. The sudden loss of five adult mages is a significant blow. Furthermore, as the Sorcerer Supreme, the King naturally participated in the formulation of magical laws, and the killing of five mages—
"You must come to trial, Rune, no matter what."
"Okay, when?"
Wang asked, somewhat surprised, "I thought—"
"Did you think I would refuse?" Rune looked at the mage. "No, not only will I not refuse, but I need you to spread the word about this case to everyone."
After learning that the King wanted him to abide by the laws they had set and participate in the trial, many years flashed through Rune's mind. At first, he did resist arrest, but given his strength and status, the King probably would have a hard time actually coming to arrest him.
But what are the benefits of doing this?
Everyone knows that the laws of the magical world are just a piece of paper, and they think that runes are just a feather duster that can be used to suppress other people in the magical world. Inevitably, some beasts will take the opportunity to use the name of runes to seek their own interests.
Yes, I'm talking about Constantine.
But what if Rune were to participate in the trial?
If Rune wins the case, his previous image as a tyrant will be somewhat improved, and the laws of the magical world will be strengthened.
If he loses the case, he will storm out of the Sanctuary, further solidifying his image as a tyrant. He might even establish absolute rule, gathering all his forces to prepare for the Forsaken, although this would result in a certain loss of power.
But it doesn't matter, since he already has a group of Azerothian mages.
"Tell me the truth first, did you really kill them because they wanted to harm you?" Wang pursed his lips, feeling a little flustered, afraid that Rune would cause trouble in the courtroom.
As a Chinese man, he knew all too well the idiom "calling a deer a horse." So Wang Zheng prayed silently that Lu En wouldn't repeat Zhao Gao's story in the trial hall.
Rune curled his lip. "They did try to murder me, and they did it in a very despicable way. It just so happened that I created a kind of magic that day that allowed me to listen to their thoughts."
"Actually, if they just wanted to target me, I wouldn't care. But the methods they're planning to use are far too insidious, so I have to strike first."
At this point, Rune shrugged. "How many people do you think I heard cursing on the day I created magic? How many people wanted to tear me to pieces? But I only killed those five mages, which speaks volumes."
Hearing this, Wang breathed a sigh of relief. If that was the case, then things would be much easier.
"Hey, what are you two chatting about, having so much fun?" Stark said, somewhat annoyed. He walked between the two, putting his arm around both Wang and Rune. "Want me to buy you some drinks? We can talk while we drink?"
It's clear that Stark is very angry.
"Alright, I'll open the portal right now," Rune sighed, and with a casual swipe of his hand, a dark portal instantly formed. "Or, why don't you go in first?"
Stark blinked, glanced at the somewhat eerie, dark portal, and then muttered, "Um, perhaps—"
I mean, can you guarantee the safety of this thing?
"Weren't you going to find Captain America? He's right across the street!" Rune rolled his eyes, but Stark didn't perk up because of Rune's words.
This portal looks much more sinister and terrifying than before. Look, there are some wriggling unidentified objects inside!
"Do you think there's any insurance in this universe that covers magical damage? I think I need to buy one—"
Unable to bear Stark's incessant nagging any longer, Rune lightly kicked Stark in the butt. With a piercing scream, Tony was kicked into the portal, causing the other Azerothian mages to burst into laughter.
"Alright, alright, everyone, let's go in quickly." Rune gestured for them to proceed.
Some monks were reluctant to leave, as the delicious food, fun entertainment, and spectacular scenery had won over many of them.
In the church hall, soft, silvery-white moonlight spilled onto the floor. Steve was sitting in a chair reading a book, while a wisp of golden light was carefully gathering in the palm of his other hand, flowing and dancing at his fingertips.
The power of the Holy Light is indeed very special, and Steve likes it so much that he is willing to spend a lot of time studying it.
Just as he was engrossed in the classic works of the Holy Light Cult, he suddenly noticed footsteps. He immediately turned around and saw a figure walking into the church. Steve's eyes flashed with surprise and warmth, and the holy light in his palm quietly dissipated.
"Tony?"
Steve spoke softly, his voice hoarse. He had just received treatment, but he had endured too much suffering and his body needed to rest for a while.
Tony, who was walking towards them, stopped in his tracks as the light swept from Steve's armor to his unharmed face.
The figure he once thought he could only find in his memories was now standing right in front of him, a feeling that felt incredibly unreal.
Tony reached out and pinched Rune's waist, twisting it once. "Does it hurt?"
"It doesn't hurt," Rune said, looking at Tony with an expression that suggested he was an idiot. "I know you want to confirm if you're dreaming, but is it possible you hit the wrong person?"
"Snapped!"
Tony punched his right hand with his left fist, deliberately making an exaggerated expression of sudden realization. "Oh yeah, you're right!"
"No problem, I'd be happy to help," Rune replied with a grin.
Tony's eyes widened, and before he could even speak, he immediately summoned his symbiote armor. As expected, before he could even say Friday's greeting, Rune's fist had already struck him in the chest.
boom!
Stark was pinned to the ground with his head tilted back, unable to move.
"Does it hurt now?"
"It hurts," Stark nodded, forcing a smile. "Now, can you help me up?"
