Chapter 580 Sword Pointing at C'Thun
Chapter 580 Sword Pointing at C'Thun
"You won't regret this." Rune clapped his hands lightly, and the signed agreement instantly turned into specks of light and disappeared into thin air. "Now, we should discuss another issue—who agrees and who disagrees that I want to kill C'Thun?"
The meeting room fell silent.
Those who knew who C'Thun was were stunned by Rune's words, while those who didn't looked around anxiously, hoping someone could explain it to them.
The kind-hearted Rune then explained C'Thun's origins.
Tens of thousands of years ago, the Thousand-Eyed Demon C'Thun, along with other Old Gods, descended from the Dark Void, making a powerful debut on Azeroth. They spread corrupting power across the land like a rapidly spreading giant festering sore, quickly filling wherever they went with an atmosphere of despair.
To gain allies, the Old Gods also created the cunning and intelligent Faceless Ones and the resilient and strong Aqir insectoids, who, with the help of these minions, continue to corrupt Azeroth.
Until one day, the Titan Aggramar discovered Azeroth, and at his call, all the Titans of the Pantheon set out to Azeroth to overthrow the Black Empire.
As the mortal embodiment of the power of order, and the supreme being formed from the will of an entire planet, these Titans were arrogant and quickly dealt with Y'Shaarj, the strongest Old God.
As a result, the death of this Old God turned countless mountains to dust, and hundreds of Titan creations were also wiped out.
The surface of Azeroth bears scars that will never be erased, and the energy of the newborn world's soul gushes forth from these wounds—this is the origin of the Well of Eternity.
After this catastrophe, the Titans realized that killing the other three Old Gods would only harm the Azerothian Star-Soul, and the Supreme Star-Soul might even die as a result. So, after defeating the other Old Gods, the Titans did not kill them, but instead chose to imprison them.
In fact, there were five Old Gods who entered Azeroth, but one of them, named Xal'atath, was devoured by the other four when he descended, leaving only his soul to linger on.
The reason why Rune didn't target the other Old Gods but instead chose to target C'Thun first is quite simple.
Beneath him lies the Chamber of the Heart, an ancient Titan vault and a sacred place where one can communicate with the Supreme Star Soul. The chamber's seal protects the World Soul, but C'Thun is constantly corrupting it with his dark power. If he succeeds, this timeline will be doomed.
However, considering that the bronze dragons didn't join in when the Forsaken invaded this timeline, it's likely that this timeline wasn't the one they wanted to protect.
Rune's proposal naturally received everyone's support.
"I will gather all the soldiers. In this battle, our elven race will fight with all our might!" Tyrande, who had just been complaining about Malfurion, stood up excitedly. "I will send people to gather other allies to fight alongside you!"
The reason she lost her composure was that the night elves had accidentally awakened the Aqir in Ahn'Qiraj, which also caused C'Thun to awaken. The ensuing war in the quicksand caused heavy losses to the night elves and the dragon guardians.
Fandral Staghelm's son also died in this battle.
Therefore, the relationship between the night elves and the Qiraji can be described as a blood feud. Now that a powerful figure has come to her aid, Tyrande is naturally extremely excited and can't wait to settle accounts with the Qiraji.
Thrall, Jaina, and the others were about to express their opinions when Rune interrupted them.
"I can go by myself," he waved his hand dismissively. "Those rotten apples and scum are nothing to me."
Rune's boastful words left Tyrande somewhat incredulous. She tried to dissuade him, saying, "But C'Thun commands an entire Dark Empire, countless Qiraji as his vanguard, and a large number of corrupted Anubisathans. Especially the latter; their hurled giant axes can even defeat a guardian dragon—"
She thought Rune was unaware of the power of those terrifying creatures, but in fact, Rune knew all about them perfectly well.
C'Thun is an Old God with two forms who can continuously corrupt the creatures around him. The minimum challenge level is Legendary. Creatures below this level will be corrupted and become a burden to others.
Not to mention the Qiraji, modeled after the Zerg from StarCraft. These monsters are one of the races in all of Azeroth that excels at swarm tactics, and only the undead army can rival them.
This is not an enemy that can be defeated by sheer numbers. Even if Tyrande puts aside racial conflicts and brings in the Zandalari trolls and the Loa, it would still be difficult to defeat C'Thun and his Dark Empire.
But Rune is different. He possesses a similar ability to the powerful Void Lord, Dimensius the Devourer of Worlds, which allows him to devour everything and convert it into his own power.
The endless Qiraji, the mighty Anubisath, and the Obsidian Destroyer will ultimately only become resources for Rune's power.
Moreover, the Dark Force has stated that defeating C'Thun is his "job change quest," and the involvement of anyone else could cause the quest to fail. Rune is unwilling to accept such an outcome.
"In this universe, apart from that leader of the Burning Legion—" Rune said with a smile, "no one has ever been able to make me go all out."
Even Clark, who was possessed by the Omega effect, did not allow Rune to use his full strength. In that battle, Rune did not even take out Kryptonite, nor did he use magic. He simply relied on strength to knock Rune to his knees.
Tyrande saw the confidence in Rune's eyes. She pursed her lips, and finally nodded. Perhaps—
Should I truly be like Malfurion and give him some trust?
Silithus is a desolate and mysterious desert, but counterintuitively, it receives very frequent rainfall, which helps maintain a high level of biodiversity.
However, this does not mean that the Silithus Desert is a habitable place. Aside from the terrifying Qiraji, there are also numerous wandering air and earth elementals that lurk in every corner, waiting to ambush any passing creatures.
The only saving grace is that these elemental creatures are mostly confined to the depths of the desert, far from any settlements.
Before Rune lay a massive, smooth barrier, a cold barrier at least a hundred feet high, spanning the mountains to the east and west, forming the border between the Silithus Desert and the ancient Kingdom of Ahn'Qiraj.
This is the beetle wall.
If it were just a matter of height, the Qiraji would have already broken through this barrier and launched a counterattack against the Night Elves. However, the Beetle Wall is protected by a magical barrier that prevents flying creatures from crossing it.
Rune looked at the massive wall before him. The midday sun was scorching the quicksand of Silithus and the orderly rows of huge ancient walls outside the Scarab Wall.
Tyrande leaned closer to Rune and whispered a reminder, "This is where we set up the barrier back then. Only by striking the gong with the Scepter of Quicksand can the barrier be reactivated. But—"
She sighed. "The Scepter of the Quicksand was destroyed by Fandral. Perhaps we should take a longer approach and find some fragments of the Scepter of the Quicksand first—"
"No need for that," Rune waved his hand, indicating that it wasn't a problem.
It's just a magical barrier; just eat it.
