Chapter 546 The Nightmare King's Whereabouts
"Why are you telling us all this—who are you? How do you know all this? And what is your purpose?"
Jaina asked warily.
If what Rune said was true, then he wouldn't have needed to get involved in this terrible mess and face a terrifying organization that had already accumulated countless resources.
"As I said before, my friends, they have invaded countless universes, and I myself am a mage who can travel to various universes, so naturally I can see those ravaged worlds."
Rune thought of the world of The Boys, a mess left behind after being ravaged by the Forsaken. It was seeing that mess that finally made him determined to find allies for his universe.
He would not allow those damned bastards to break into his home for their own selfish gain and make such a mess of it.
"Moreover, I did not come here simply to save your civilization—though that may be part of the process. My true mission is to ensure that the world-soul of Azeroth is not strangled in its infancy, nor twisted into something terrible."
Rune concluded, "Deep within the earth, the powerful being being nurtured is my most favored ally."
""
"But how do we stop them?" Malfurion's question went straight to the point. "They possess power we cannot contend with, and according to you, the more valiantly we resist, the more exciting the story will be, and the more satisfying it will be for them?"
"But as I've said before, those beings from other worlds need a manageable level of resistance. They need a continuous epic to sustain their survival, rather than a one-time annihilation or even being driven out of this universe."
But this was hardly good news; the truth Rune brought left everyone present speechless.
Rune seemed to hope that the Horde, Alliance, and Night Elves would launch an attack against the foreign force entrenched in Mount Hyjal.
If they all perish, at least this universe will lose its ability to provide compelling narratives for extraterrestrial powers, and the remaining survivors may be able to continue developing civilization.
If they win, they might be able to bring that terrifying being that has plundered countless universes into their own world. But look at that portal in the sky; its continued existence undoubtedly proves a very simple thing: that warship and countless Parademons are not the entirety of this terrifying organization. They have set their sights on this universe and are determined to squeeze out all its essence.
Even if these guys are defeated, countless other creatures will still come to their world through that portal.
"How many people are in this organization?" Jaina asked softly. This was probably the last question. The leader, who had not yet experienced the destruction of Theramore, was not warlike.
Rune's answer silenced them.
"There are many, a great many, and they are increasing every day at a rate you can't even imagine. There could be billions of them appearing as soon as I speak."
The demons of the Burning Legion will regenerate after being killed, but this takes time, and the stronger the demon, the longer it takes to regenerate.
While the Forgotten Ones do not regenerate, their numbers increase every moment. Not to mention, these guys possess projects that can mass-produce superhumans, such as Parademon modification, cloning technology, and the Weapon X program.
The room fell silent; it was a future filled with despair. Their cosmic coordinates had been exposed. What good would it do even if Volking's original plan succeeded?
Snap snap—
Rune clapped his hands, drawing everyone's attention to himself. "Hey, my friends, even though you may seem to have no future, I'm here for you. I've said it before, I want to protect the world-soul of Azeroth, but I can't do it alone, so I need your help."
"Moreover, it's not just your universe that's being invaded by those damned guys; many other universes are under their threat. So, in a way, you actually have quite a few allies."
As he spoke, Rune smiled and patted his chest, "For example, if you offer me enough compensation, I will take on some of the heavy responsibilities that originally belonged to you. What do you think?"
"We need to discuss this carefully. Could you give us some time?" Sal said with difficulty. They really needed to discuss it thoroughly; this decision would inevitably determine the future of the world.
Rune is fine, since he's not the one in a hurry. The only problem is Malfurion, the powerful druid who will soon return to the Emerald Dream to gather his strength, but his soul will be lost in the depths of the dream.
Therefore, if Rune wants to delve deeper into the knowledge related to Druids, he must hurry up.
Just after he stepped outside, Rune saw a large number of people gathered outside the door to act as guards, many of whom were familiar faces, such as Fandral Staghelm.
As if on cue, the Archdruid appeared. He was the very culprit who was hindering Malfurion's awakening. He was originally just a short-tempered but loving night elf, but he had been corrupted by the Old Gods and became an accomplice to evil.
Fandral's fall from grace was actually quite simple: his son died in the War of the Quicksands, and he could never forgive himself for not being able to save his son. The Nightmare King Xavius exploited his guilt and anger, creating illusions from time to time to make Fandral believe that his son had returned, thus manipulating this powerful druid.
The second option is to kill the Nightmare King, which would directly resolve Malfurion's coma and deepen his understanding of dreams, thereby perfecting that powerful but unfinished spell.
Rune narrowed his eyes and tried to use the Dream Stone from his heart, but the Dream Stone did not react at all. Clearly, this powerful artifact could only be used in the DC Universe.
No wonder the system didn't give me any notification when I received this artifact.
Although he couldn't directly use the Dream Stone to awaken Fandral, who was bewitched by the Dream Demon, Rune had other methods. He approached Fandral, who was standing diligently outside the door with a serious expression.
"Hello, Fandral Staghelm," Rune said with a smile, but his eyes were full of malice, not directed at the poor father, but at the evil figure behind him. "Does he need some psychological counseling?"
"Leave here immediately, as a guest of honor!" Fandral said coldly. Beside him, a burly night elf man with similar green hair was whispering something to him.
Others couldn't see the man, who was made of dream and void power, or hear his words clearly, but Rune could hear some fragmented sounds.
"—Mafalio——acting perversely—"
