Chapter 488 You'll definitely owe this favor today.

Rune glanced around the small clinic. Alfred was providing information support to Batman, Catwoman was helping Leslie take care of patients, and everyone had their own things to do. It seemed that Rune was the only one with nothing to do.

The atmosphere made Rune somewhat embarrassed, and he had to cough twice, but the gunfire outside continued and everyone at the scene was focused on the action, so no one heard it, which made Rune even more awkward.

Snapped!

He could only clap once to draw everyone's attention to himself.

"What do you want to do?!" Leslie rebuked him directly.

What doctor has a good temper? Not to mention that Leslie not only runs a small clinic in Gotham City, but also charges shockingly low prices, which makes her even more irritable.

If she had a good temper, she probably would have been driven to her death by the Gothamites.

Unfortunately, Rune didn't really have much to help Leslie. His spells were mainly focused on attack, protection, and early warning. Rune himself had powerful self-healing abilities and extremely strong physical defense, so there was no need to consider any post-battle healing spells.

Perhaps I should learn one?

But so far, Rune is somewhat guilty in the face of Leslie's rebuke.

"I just want to say, do you want to resolve this matter as soon as possible and pacify the whole of Gotham?" Rune wanted to add a sentence to restore everything to its original state, but Gotham's original state wasn't much better, so he could only swallow his words.

Rune looked at the catwoman, "Do you want your boyfriend to come back right away?"

After saying that, Rune turned his gaze to Afu, "Do you want your—young master to be safe?"

Finally, Rune looked at Leslie again, his mouth opening and closing before finally settling into a sigh. He seemed unable to help Leslie—

Leslie, who was already hot-tempered, was completely enraged. What did this mean? Was she discriminating against doctors? However, her charge did not get within three meters of Rune before she was forcibly lifted up by several black tentacles.

Considering that she was old and a doctor with a conscience—and there weren't many doctors with a conscience in Gotham, or even in the whole of America—Runn didn't intend to harm her. Even the tentacles binding her were large and soft, and the movements were very gentle.

Aside from the smooth texture, it actually feels similar to being wrapped in a quilt.

"I need to remind you, kid, that Gordon's down, the GCPD is leaderless, and most of the Bat Family members are out of contact. Even I don't know how much longer this city can hold out. Are you sure you can quell this?"

It's no wonder Alfred asked the question; there are too many terrifying things in this city. Even Green Lantern's ring can't fully exert its power here, and even Flash can't run at full speed.

In addition, there are those villains with all sorts of bizarre abilities—oh, according to the information just leaked by Batman, these villains have been gathered by the League of Assassins and are now wreaking havoc everywhere!

And this kid in front of me actually has the audacity to say that he can pacify Gotham.

Catwoman, however, remained remarkably calm. Before Batman was even fully awake, she had already wiped away her tears and adopted an expression that said, "I didn't care about you that much." And after Batman stood up again, she was even more composed.

Instead of answering Rune's question first, she asked Alfred without looking up, "How's Bruce doing?"

Alfred took off his headphones and adjusted a few knobs, the static noise mixed with intermittent gunshots and explosions.

"Batman, this is Pennyworth. Please report your status."

There was silence on the other end of the radio, followed by suppressed breathing and sounds of fighting.

"—Bane on the Gotham Bridge——takes hostages——Mr. Freeze takes over the power plant——Riddler—"

"The Riddler should get out of Gotham City," Rune added to himself.

Bruce's voice was somewhat broken, "The Riddler—seems—to want to tell me—"

Suddenly, a loud explosion came through the radio, followed by a long static noise.

"Bruce!" Selena finally couldn't sit still any longer. She rushed to the radio and yelled into the microphone, "Answer me, Bruce!"

Alfred quickly adjusted the equipment, trying to re-establish the connection, but only received endless noise in response. His lips tightened into a straight line, but he was still trying to comfort the future possible matriarch of the Wayne family.

"It could be signal interference, Miss Selena. Gotham's electromagnetic environment is extremely complex right now. Just recently, traces of EMP were found near Wayne Tower—"

Such comfort failed to reassure Catwoman. She took a deep breath, approached Rune, a sly glint in her eyes, and asked, "Tell me, what's the price for saving Batman?"

She didn't care what Gotham would become, since Gotham was already a hopeless city anyway, but Selena really couldn't accept Batman going down with the city.

Gotham doesn't deserve it!

So she simply asked what the price would be for saving Batman, since the mission to quell the unrest in Gotham City didn't seem to include any clause protecting Batman.

But to save Batman, Gotham must first be pacified. Otherwise, Batman will do everything he can to return to Gotham and punish the criminals. Selena doesn't know Bruce Wayne, but she knows Batman very well.

"How cunning," Rune said with a smile, having figured things out. "But I did want to save this man; he was my childhood idol. However, I do have a request: I hope you can owe me a favor."

Now that Barbara has regained her footing, it will be difficult for Batman to owe her a favor again, so Rune has chosen a roundabout approach.

If you manage to lure Alfred, who's practically like a father to Batman, and his lover over, are you worried Batman himself won't come? That's impossible, okay!

Selena frowned. "Why drag Alfred and Leslie into this? I only need to owe them favors myself."

Because you are all Batman's loved ones and friends, it's that simple.

While he thought this in his heart, Rune wouldn't say it aloud. "Do you think—you're on the same level as Batman?"

Catwoman immediately bristled. She turned to Alfred and said, "Contact the Flash and have him bring that Kansas boy over here!"

Superman and Batman teaming up to save Gotham City isn't a new phenomenon, but their differing ideologies often lead to conflict and antagonism. But Selena doesn't care about that; she's angry!

She was always referred to as Batman's darling or a "meatball" by other villains in private, a term that made Catwoman, a beautiful and independent anti-hero, very angry. When Rune pointed this out, it made her even angrier.

She'd accept it even if Superman and Batman fought again afterward! At most, she'd just yell "Martha!" and that would be fine.

Alfred raised an eyebrow, but ultimately decided to try contacting The Flash, feeling that Rune was taking advantage of the situation.

"But I have to tell you something—" Rune chuckled as he watched Alfred's actions, "The Flash has been captured, 99%..."

"So you're definitely going to owe me this favor today!"
