Chapter 460 Magical Reform
Chapter 460 Magical Reform (Part 4)
This was the first time Rune had brought Zatanna to Kent Farm, but he deliberately made some noise when canceling the portal so that the Kents would know they were home.
It's February now, and outdoor planting activities have basically stopped, but that doesn't mean Jonathan can take a breather. Farmers in any country work year-round without rest.
Especially after Rune installed a lot of new equipment on the farm, Jonathan had to dedicate more time to maintenance. Clark was helping Jonathan with this at the time.
However, Martha remained in her room as usual. She and Raven were watching TV and dozing off when they heard the noise and immediately realized that Rune had returned.
Even faster than Martha was Raven, who immediately got up and floated to Rune's side.
However, upon seeing Rune, she stopped, as if her robes were nailed to the ground, unable to move.
Rune did return, but not alone.
Beside him was a woman dressed in her signature performance gown—a tuxedo, a top hat, and fishnet stockings—who looked beautiful, yet also dazzling.
"This is?"
Rune's expression remained as calm as ever. "Let me introduce you. This is Zatanna, a friend who is working with me to promote magical reform."
Raven felt a little relieved, but not completely at ease. She deliberately moved closer to Rune, hugged his waist, and greeted him, "Hello, sister."
Zatanna didn't pay attention to the raven's behavior. She smiled at the raven, but her heart was filled with mixed feelings.
She knew that she had almost killed the little girl. If Rune hadn't intervened, the consequences would have been unimaginable—even now, Zatanna could still see the powerful dark energy within the other girl.
The awkward situation didn't last long. Martha quickly came over, and when she saw Zatanna's clothes, she showed a disapproving expression.
"Why don't girls these days take care of their bodies?" Martha said as she walked back to her room, took out some thick clothes, and handed them to Zatanna. "They might not fit, but they'll be warm enough."
Zatanna didn't refuse. She happily put on the clothes Martha handed her and said, "Thank you."
Although she was a magician, her clothes were actually magical items with built-in insulation, and with the addition of Compound No. 5 given to her by Rune, Zatanna didn't feel cold at all.
But Masha's attitude still warmed her heart in a long time. Zatanna had not seen her parents for a long time, and Masha reminded her of her mother.
Without a doubt, Masha was a very maternal person. After seeing Zatanna obediently put on her clothes, she nodded with satisfaction and even took her to dinner. At the dinner table, after Masha learned about Zatanna's background, even the last bit of prejudice disappeared.
Martha generously spread her kindness.
Clark and Rune are both basically grown up. The former has become much more sensible under the guidance of several heroes, while the latter doesn't need much attention. Raven is also very sensible. Of course, she is not complaining, but just feels a little empty.
Fortunately, Zatanna temporarily made up for all of this.
Even Jonathan felt sorry for Zatanna, and he showed genuine sympathy for her becoming a magician at such a young age.
Clark and Zatanna were chatting enthusiastically. He had fought alongside Zatanna many times and had already gotten along well with her before Raven came to Earth.
In the corner, Raven was picking at the food in her bowl with chopsticks, but unlike her calm demeanor, Raven's heart was in turmoil.
She felt incredibly wronged. It seemed that Zatanna not only wanted to steal Rune, but also her family. This was going too far.
After Zatanna left, Raven went straight back to her room, and the moment the door closed, a terrifying magical power erupted from her body.
She is a disciple of Rune and possesses a vast amount of magic stored within her body, thus posing a risk of magical outbursts. These outbursts aren't limited to birthdays; they can occur if a wizard experiences significant emotional fluctuations.
In the raven's eyes, a blueprint of hell was unfolding before her, with twisted and grotesque demons baring their fangs and speaking into her ear.
Some ordered her to kill Zatanna, some ordered her to tie Rune up in the basement, and others ordered her to kill everyone.
"Those people you consider family have betrayed you! Look at them, laughing and chatting with a stranger, ignoring you—they're not your family at all!"
"Why care about other people's feelings? If you just kill that woman first, and then pin Rune down, does he think he can kill you? You know he loves you the most!"
...
These dark thoughts kept surfacing in Raven's mind, and she had to admit that she did want to put some of them into practice, but in the end she made up her mind.
"roll!"
She silently spoke in her heart, and a powerful burst of magic erupted, shattering all the deformed monsters before her. Then Raven lay down on the bed, her face beneath the hood expressionless.
She just felt a little tired.
What does Rune need? A humorous and witty partner who can help him promote reforms in the magical world, or a little girl who only makes him worry and protect her all the time?
The answer seems self-evident.
She wanted to cry, but a loud knocking on the door interrupted the gothic girl's emo moment.
"Please come in," Raven said softly as she sat up.
The door opened silently, and Raven didn't even need to turn around; the magic within her body had already helped her outline his silhouette.
It was Rune. He stood there, carrying with him the cold air of the corridor and a touch of the unique, cool aura that belonged only to Rune.
He didn't speak immediately, as if he was carefully considering his words.
"Raven," he finally spoke, his voice deeper than usual, but Raven, unusually, did not respond. She was silently rejecting Rune, a form of revenge for Rune bringing Zatanna back.
But Rune didn't back down because of her silence; he was the person who knew her best in the world. So he walked slowly over and stopped in front of the raven.
"As you should know, I've recently been pushing for reforms in the magical world, and Zatanna's family holds a very important position there, so—"
"This has nothing to do with me."
The raven finally spoke, but her voice was calm and devoid of any emotion. Rune, however, gently bent down and approached the raven.
"Really?" Rune's voice was soft, but it carried a strange magic. "Look into my eyes and tell me, Raven, is this really none of your business?"
