Chapter 315 Superman Makes a Dazzling Appearance
The new Terminator not only possessed more powerful performance, but also carried more advanced plasma weapons. This technological superiority completely destroyed the confidence of the human side, and the outer defenses of the shelter were completely dismantled within a mere fifteen minutes.
Even more tragically, Starlight and Queen Maeve struggled to deal with this new model of Terminator.
"The east wall has fallen!"
The communicator crackled with the screams of soldiers, accompanied by the continuous blasts of gunfire and the sound of bones breaking. Starlight witnessed a T-800 crush a young guard's throat with a single hand; the guard's desperate resistance was merely a prelude to the T-800's...
It was just some black hydraulic fluid that leaked out from 800. This black liquid mixed with human blood and outlined a strange pattern on the ground.
Enraged, Starlight barely managed to repel the new model Terminator in front of him, then turned and charged straight at the damned machine. With a punch, a piercing metallic scraping sound rang out, and the T-800's head, along with its mechanical spine and a tangled mess of wires, was sent flying. The machine, now without its central processing unit, still tried to move, but Starlight kicked it away again, stopping its activity.
"Starlight!" Queen Maeve, who had barely defeated a new model Terminator, shouted from the other side, "Quickly, cover the civilians' evacuation!"
As she spoke, she used brute force to aim the Terminator's weapon at the other Terminators, and the continuous plasma cannon fire destroyed anything it hit, resulting in violent explosions.
The enemy was far stronger than Maeve had imagined. She had thought that the outer defenses could at least hold out until the civilians retreated to the inner defense zone of the shelter. However, the so-called outer defense circle was breached by the new flying Terminator in just 15 minutes. The soldiers didn't even get to fire more than a few cannon shots.
Starlight understood the gravity of the situation and immediately took action. She used all her superpowers, and the light shone brightly on the war-torn land. The civilians immediately gathered around her under the guidance of the light. These women and children knew that only Starlight in the shelter had such abilities, and they were instinctively relying on the strong, hoping that Starlight could save their lives.
But there were just too many Terminators. Their optical sensors weren't as fragile as humans', and they wouldn't be blinded by excessively bright light. So after Starlight used his superpowers, most of the Terminators instinctively attacked his location.
Having never dealt with a well-organized Terminator attack before, the shelter was left with a fatal weakness. Queen Maeve and Starlight both misjudged the Terminators' behavior patterns in this attack. Before the battle, they both thought that these machine heads would eliminate high-threat creatures, such as armed soldiers, as they had done before. However, they did not expect that this time the Terminators' behavior pattern was genocide.
Starlight's actions essentially exposed women and children, resources crucial to the future of the shelter, to the Terminators.
Queen Maeve tried to stop them, but it was all in vain. With the addition of three new Terminators, Queen Maeve was plunged into a fierce battle. Her sword was chipped and her shield was dented. She could only grit her teeth and persevere.
Starlight was blown away by the rocket launcher, her body crashing into the women and children behind her. Some civilians who witnessed this scene immediately screamed, some tried to help the fallen Starlight up, and others were killed on the spot.
Queen Maeve felt a chill explode in her chest upon seeing this scene, but anger and sorrow alone could not gain any advantage over these machine heads. They were simply squeezing out Queen Maeve's remaining living space step by step, without any rush. Maeve could barely protect herself, let alone save the junior she had originally favored.
If Starlight hadn't killed Storm, would things be better now?
Queen Maeve was lost in thought, but the latest model of Terminator, which was fighting her, interrupted her. Its heavy punch landed directly on her face, leaving her momentarily stunned and ashamed.
A more painful and cruel question then surfaced in her mind: Is there any hope for humanity?
Just then, a man swooped down from the sky, his figure breaking the sound barrier and creating a tremendous noise. Soon, the man crashed into the ground.
The shockwave instantly sent Queen Maeve flying. She suppressed the nausea she felt after being hit by the Terminator and adjusted her posture in mid-air to minimize the impact upon landing.
Amidst the sandstorm, a figure draped in a red cloak slowly rose to his feet. In a loud and undeniable voice, he commanded, "Lie down!"
For reasons unknown, Queen Maeve actually knelt down as the man instructed, and then the red light of her heat vision swept across the battlefield like a searchlight.
This familiar ability instantly froze Maeve's blood—that tall figure, that familiar posture, and the ability to see through heat and fly—yes, it was him.
it's him!
Queen Maeve's fingers dug into her palms, drawing blood, her eyes filled with despair. She desperately wished for this damned man who had forced himself on her to die, but reality is often so cruel and heartless, isn't it?
Withdrawing his magic, Rune glanced at Starlight, who lay on the ground looking particularly wolfish and foxy, and said without any apology, "Sorry I'm a little late."
That's right, what made those soldiers and civilians kneel down wasn't Superman's command to kneel, but his magic.
After coughing a few times, Starlight pursed her lips. She was both sad and happy. She was sad because of the deaths of the civilians, and happy because Rune was willing to help her.
She immediately straightened her clothes, but having already gone through a tough battle, Starlight could not possibly straighten them properly.
Even though the clothes she was wearing were a modified version of Queen Maeve's own combat suit, and even though the suit theoretically offered decent protection, it couldn't stop an explosion. Therefore, Starlight was currently exposing her stomach, arms, and...
Large areas of skin, some fair and some covered in dust, were also exposed on the legs.
Perhaps because of Queen Maeve's earlier teasing, Starlight's face flushed red, and for a moment she didn't know how to reply to Rune. In the end, she just whispered, "It's okay, you came at just the right time."
The raven following behind Rune glanced at the civilians around him, then at the starlight, its alarm bells ringing in its mind.
The raven asked deliberately, "Aren't you going to evacuate the civilians?"
