Chapter 278 The Death of Nick Fury?
When Rune arrived at the restaurant, Martha had already prepared the food. The classic ham and cheese sandwiches were piled high, with bacon, eggs, tomatoes, and lettuce in addition to ham. They were also accompanied by sausages fried until golden brown on both sides and a cream cake roll.
"Sorry, I overslept." Rune sighed. He didn't get up early to begin with, and with his research on cosmic energy crystals and Hecate's interference, Martha had already prepared breakfast when he arrived at the restaurant.
Martha and Jonathan didn't seem to care much.
"Doing it occasionally helps me feel alive," Martha said with a smile. "After all, I don't have anything else to do right now, so I'm just idling around anyway."
Thanks to Rune's company, the Kent family is now flush with cash, and even the housework is done by Rune's magic, so Martha has nothing to do. She does want to go on a trip with Jonathan, but Jonathan is busy looking after the farm, so the idea of a trip remains just a thought.
Jonathan took a sip of coffee, then nodded at Rune: "Your cousin at your age probably doesn't even know how to fry an egg."
"Dad!" Clark gave Jonathan a resentful look.
Rune watched Clark and Jonathan's mouths, then took a bite of the sandwich himself. It tasted really good, rich and creamy.
The bacon was baked to a very crispy perfection, like potato chips with a meaty aroma, and the lettuce and tomatoes helped to cut through the richness.
“By the way, I was thinking of taking Clark to see Steve from the other world later,” Rune said. Afraid the Kents might forget who he was, he added, “He’s the very handsome man who was Clark’s teacher. He was seriously injured trying to stop the two Earths from colliding.” Martha nodded, clutching her chest. “Oh, I remember that handsome man. He seemed like a soldier to me and left a deep impression. Clark really should go see him.”
Jonathan glanced at Martha and snorted, "I used to like him, but not anymore."
Upon hearing Jonathan's words, Martha immediately began to giggle. Rune chose to lower his head and continue eating, refusing to watch the old married couple's flirtatious banter.
Clark looked gravely at Steve in the medical hibernation pod, whose face was pale and eyes were closed.
"I—I used to think that being a hero was a glamorous profession, that they deserved flowers and applause." Clark gently stroked the glass of the hibernation pod, then turned to look at Rune: "But it wasn't until recently that I realized that being a hero is a painful title."
Rune nodded: "You know that now that you've experienced this and seen what happened to Steve, do you still want to be a hero?"

Clark nodded. He turned to Steve and said softly, "Although the outcome was relatively good this time, I still can't accept your zero-sum game mentality—"
"If there's a next time, I will do everything in my power to save everyone!"
Rune's face remained expressionless, but he felt a sense of relief—this was the real Superman, the hero who was willing to bring hope to everyone.
slap slap slap -
A man clapped his hands and shouted, "Well said!"
Rune looked at the man and noticed that one of his eyes was covered by an eyepatch. His face looked somewhat familiar, so he asked in a low voice, "Nick Fury?"
"Do you know me?" Nick Fury asked.
Rune nodded. He had seen Red Skull's body during their fight, but seeing the legendary agent in person still felt a bit off. After watching so many Marvel movies, he always felt that Zephyr should be a guy, especially a bald guy.
But the man in front of him, Fury, was white and had a thick head of hair.
Clark looked at Rune with a puzzled expression. Rune nodded and then began to introduce this legend to Superman: "The man in front of you is the legendary agent Nick Fury, the secret guardian and spy. He participated in World War II and became the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. after the war—Steve's superior. His greatest achievement was killing the Watcher. You can probably think of him as a god with omniscient abilities."
Clark was even more surprised. He carefully observed the man with his X-ray vision and came to an unbelievable conclusion: Fury was indeed not an ordinary person, but his strength was limited.
How could a god with omniscient abilities be killed by an ordinary person in front of him?
Fury, while surprised, sighed and began to explain:
"This is not surprising. The Observers are a race that existed long before the birth of the universe and possess omniscient vision, able to see both the past and the future simultaneously. They record and witness all major events, including the origin of the universe, the rise and fall of civilizations, and the emergence of superheroes. However, they once interfered with a less advanced civilization, leading to its self-destruction, and thus swore an oath never to interfere with the development of other races—"
At this point, Fury looked at Rune: "Perhaps the Observer I killed had grown weary of his oath never to interfere with the development of other races, that he had already foreseen his own death but accepted it willingly, or perhaps the Observer race needed a more 'proactive' Guardian to deal with future threats—but in any case, I killed him, and in my suffering, I gained a portion of his power—"
Fury pulled a gun from his pocket, finally revealing his true intentions: "But recently, my precognitive abilities have disappeared. Do you, man from another dimension, know why?"
Rune shook his head, then reached out and grabbed Fury by the neck through the portal: "You can try to see if this gun can hit me."
Rune's immense power even broke through Fury's technological and magical armor without any hindrance.
Boom!
Nick Fury fired without hesitation. Clark, who was initially confused by the sudden turn of events, snapped out of it and, with his incredible speed, managed to shield Rune before the bullet hit him.
"Next time, don't catch bullets for others! This bullet killed a god, so killing you is no problem for it," Rune said softly. Before Clark, a glowing green bullet continued to spin, but before a powerful master of dark magic...
This is all in vain.
Fury's neck had been snapped, or more accurately, Fury's LMD (Legion Mold). The mechanical structure was clearly visible where Rune had twisted his neck, and it was still crackling and sparking.
