Chapter 221 Rune VS Superman
Chapter 221 Rune VS Superman (Part 1)
When Hecate revealed that Clark was a Kryptonian, Rune knew he was in trouble. Clark's willpower was far from the unwavering strength he would later develop as Superman, so he was bound to be furious upon first learning that he was the only alien in his family.
To make matters worse, Rune, as the newcomer, had more authority than Clark on the surface. Putting aside issues like buying a car and renovating the house, even the way they were treated when skipping class was different. Clark would be reprimanded for skipping class, but Rune wouldn't. So Clark always felt that Rune was the more favored one of the two.
However, Clark was unaware that Rune's relationship with the Jonathans had actually changed. Ever since he became financially independent and even able to help out at home, the Jonathans' attitude towards Rune had shifted from that of a "minor child who still needed protection" to that of a "financially independent adult wizard."
Even though Rune was not yet an adult, the Jonathans agreed that Rune was more independent and had enough determination to take responsibility for his own future, while Clark did not.
After getting a car, Clark's first instinct was to drive to school to show it off. After getting money, Clark's first instinct was to spend it on designer clothes and shoes. With such frivolity, how could the Jonathans not worry about him?
However, Clark didn't understand any of this. He just thought that Rune wouldn't be lectured by Jonathan for spending money, and that Rune wouldn't be criticized by Jonathan for wasting money when buying a car. He felt that his parents were biased.
“Whatever you think, Clark,” Rune said calmly, “Jonathan and Martha never told me you were an alien. I just knew that.”
"What makes you think you know—"
"Really?" Rune raised an eyebrow at Clark. "How many people have you seen who can easily lift a tractor? And what about those times when you missed the school bus, but you were never late, right? Ordinary people can't fly, let alone shoot lasers from their eyes. If you call that ordinary people, then Earth's civilization would have already colonized outer space!"
"Ha, I have no interest in listening to your nonsense!" Clark could no longer suppress his anger. His irises were completely covered by a red light. The next moment, two dazzling red beams shot out from Clark's eyes. The extremely strong energy caused the heat vision to produce a plasma ionization effect when it penetrated the air. The surrounding oxygen molecules were instantly ignited, forming two fire dragons wrapped in lightning.
Wherever the heat vision passed, the air twisted and deformed under the intense heat. In the blink of an eye, it struck Rune's chest directly. Unfortunately, this powerful blow could not penetrate Rune's magical defenses—the heat vision attack only revealed the shape of the transparent magical shield in front of Rune.
Bathed in crimson light, Rune's expression became increasingly ambiguous.
"Clark, I really don't want to do this." He looked at the crimson light in front of him. Through the heat rays, Rune could see the horrific scene near Superman's eyes—his eyebrows were burning, his black hair was curly and carbonized. With Rune's keen sense of smell, he could even smell the acrid odor of burning protein. Of course, as the part that directly emits heat rays, the eyes were naturally the hardest hit area.
Clark's corneas were constantly in a cycle of carbonization-regeneration-carbonization. In fact, Clark could no longer see the person in front of him, but he still roared to vent his emotions.
"Come on then! Rune, come on!"
The next moment, Rune made a gesture, and magic flowed from the depths of his fingertips, constructing a strange structure. The surrounding space was being altered, and Hecate frowned, pulling the raven beside her back a few steps.
This was the first time the goddess of magic had seen this form of magic—Rune hadn't absorbed any magic from the outside world, but instead used himself as a medium to release the spell through his own magic. It sounded a bit like taking off his pants to fart, but in Hecate's eyes, Rune had indeed done it this way.
This was, of course, because when Rune learned this magic, he simply changed the names of the other divine lenders to his own. He had been busy with many things lately and hadn't had time to simplify it, which led to this unnecessary action that made Hecate frown.
However, the spell was effective. The instant Rune finished casting the spell, the entire workshop hut seemed to be torn open and folded like a scroll. The space of the hut was rapidly expanded, the floor began to fold, and some parts seemed to be lifted up by some invisible force.
Folded into a vertical cliff, the glass, defying the laws of human physics, twisted and stretched like putty, ultimately...
This dimension is like a kaleidoscope, and even gravity has completely lost its meaning.
Clark's heat vision stopped at that moment. He covered his eyes with trembling hands, unable to hold back his tears, because his regenerating eyeballs could not withstand the excessively stimulating light.
"Clark, no matter what you think, I still consider you my brother," Rune shouted. He didn't take the opportunity to launch a sneak attack because Clark posed no threat to Rune in his current state, and he didn't want to let the bond he and Clark had painstakingly cultivated be destroyed.
But Clark didn't think that way. A few seconds later, his eyes were completely healed. Clark opened his eyes and stared intently at Rune.
"Round Two!"
Rune sighed. Clark actually wanted to continue fighting. He didn't know where he got the courage. Since that was the case, he would let him know who was in charge at home.
He didn't say much, but in an instant he summoned countless red and black threads. These threads, made of pure magic, not only had an indescribable toughness, but could also corrode flesh. If he didn't know that Clark was very durable, he wouldn't have used this move so easily.
Clark was able to unleash his heat vision without restraint because he believed he understood Rune's strength. However, unfortunately, his understanding of Rune's strength was somewhat one-sided.
These red and black threads were very difficult to break free from; even with all his strength, Clark could only manage to snap one or two.
"Want to continue?" Rune asked coldly. What Clark hated most was Rune's perpetually confident demeanor.
It was as if he had really won.
Driven by extreme rage, Clark roared and, fueled by his unwavering determination to punch Rune, he miraculously broke free of the magical threads with his super strength and speed, charging straight at Rune and unleashing a punch.
The punch taut Clark's muscle fibers. Under the pressure of the fist, the air seemed to solidify, but the air resistance couldn't slow Clark down. A milky white substance appeared between his fingers, and Clark's pupils locked onto his target—his brother.
Closer, closer! Clark's heart pounded like a drum, and then, at what he thought was the most opportune moment, he threw his fist.
Boom!
The sound barrier was easily broken, and the shockwave generated after the barrier was torn apart exploded in a cone shape, violently displacing the air and forming a huge vacuum cavity, while a ring-shaped sonic boom cloud erupted behind Clark.
