Chapter 200 Constantine = London Shamate
Chapter 200 Constantine = London Shamate
Constantine eventually applied the [Flesh and Blood of the Evil God] to his body. He looked at his claws and the flabby flesh that was accentuated by the tight-fitting symbiote suit, and felt somewhat angry.
"Hey, does this thing have a grudge against me?" Constantine protested to Rune, but Rune just looked at the idiot, shook his head and sighed.
Constantine used to spend his days on the streets, and his routine was similar to that of the "Shamate" (a subculture in China known for its flamboyant and often outlandish fashion) groups. He liked to hang out with the lower classes and bands in London. After a whole day of this, if he had money, he would go to a restaurant to eat and drink; if he didn't, he would buy a pack of cigarettes and smoke a couple to stave off hunger.
However, after Constantine obtained the sales license and revenue share for Rune's [Companion Puppet] in the UK, his life became significantly more comfortable. While Rune did indeed give Constantine some puppets, these certainly didn't include the limited editions. So, the Constantine of today is no longer the carefree guy he used to be, spending his days either eating, selling puppets, or doing *whatever* he wanted at home, naturally gaining considerable weight.
"At least you don't have to worry about getting beaten up by street thugs," Rune comforted him.
That's right, as a representative of the mystical mage hero, Constantine still gets beaten up by street thugs. He can't just shoot fireballs at those ordinary people just because he got beaten up, can he? Given Constantine's roguish nature, he fights with thugs more often than he drinks water. If everyone fed him a fireball, Constantine would die young on the third day.
Constantine nodded: "Alright, alright, let me try this thing out myself to see what it's good for. No need to trouble you."
?
Since Constantine had given him the order to leave, Rune didn't say anything more and opened a portal back in front of him. Actually, the first gift Rune thought of after arriving in Marvel was the same Super Soldier Serum as Captain America, but when he thought about how this stuff would amplify the user's personality, making the good better and the bad worse, Rune immediately ruled out this option.
Constantine was already a scoundrel, and Rune didn't want him to become even more despicable.
Rune went straight back to the workshop and retrieved the helmet where Naboo was staying. With negotiations imminent, he had to bring Doctor Fate back as soon as possible.
"I never imagined you, you wicked little brat, would actually be willing to return him." Nabu sighed. This was the first time he'd encountered someone like this. In his long life, most of the fools who found him wanted to possess him.
Their fate is often quite tragic.
If you have some knowledge of monks, you will definitely be cautious about the so-called precious treasures left behind by monks—after all, you can never imagine whether these treasures of monks have their own thoughts.
Rune sighed and pointed at the helmet in his hand: "Looking at you, I don't want to keep you as a collectible."
Nabu's helmet—well, to put it nicely, it was a smooth, somewhat angular, pure gold Spartan helmet; to put it bluntly, Rune thought that, purely in terms of aesthetics, it was comparable to the peony-painted vases that the older generation liked to use.
"Hmph, my current body is made of N metal—"
"Alright, N-metal is indeed a very rare material, but—" Rune shook his helmet up and down, "If you ask me, your material isn't the rarest, and your design is really... indescribable."
Afterwards, Nabu kept saying things like, "Kids don't understand what true aesthetics are," and "Even the King of the World was infatuated with him back then," but Rune pretended not to hear them.
You can't change your appearance like a cloak of levitation, so you can't expect to still conform to contemporary aesthetics thousands of years from now.
Rune arrived at the hospital entrance. It was a rather modern private hospital, with a wide entrance and bright chandeliers inside, making the lobby appear spacious and bright. Naboo's injuries from when he controlled Kent Nelson to attack Rune some time ago hadn't yet healed.
He's currently lying in the hospital, but fortunately, he served as a fortune teller for a period of time, and Nabu gave him a lot of money, so he's not worried about medical expenses.
Rune knocked on the door and then entered the ward with Kent Nelson's permission.
"Hello." Rune placed the helmet on the bedside table and then looked at Nelson. Nelson was an old man. For someone his age, every winter was a tribulation, and every injury meant death was imminent. He was still alive only because Nabu had made him a mage.
Even without the Helmet of Fate, Nelson can still cast spells on his own.
"Hello, child." Nelson smiled at Rune. "I apologize again for my previous behavior, although it was not my intention."
"I understand." Rune nodded. Nelson was indeed powerless. The power gap between him and Naboo was too great. If Naboo decided to do something, Nelson simply couldn't refuse.
But Naboo had previously complained to Rune that the person who wore him determined how much power Naboo could actually wield.
For example, Rune, who possesses powerful dark magic, can fully unleash his power as the God of Order. However, if he were an ordinary person, Nabu would at most turn him into a strong individual with powerful physique, the ability to fly, and the ability to use energy attacks. But he would never be able to truly grasp Nabu's wisdom, let alone glimpse the mysteries of Order.
Kent Nelson is one of the most suitable candidates in the last few centuries; he is intelligent and can learn magic very quickly.
Aside from the weakening of his magic due to old age, which prevents him from fighting for extended periods, this is basically the strongest time that Fate Doctor is at.
Under Nelson's questioning gaze, Rune pointed to the helmet: "I've brought you something. Put it back on."
'
Nelson took the helmet and stared silently at the familiar artifact, lost in thought. After a long while, he finally spoke, "Why return it? You should know just how powerful it is."
"Of course I know." Rune nodded. "Mastering it is equivalent to obtaining a powerful, Order-specific helmet with built-in spellcasting assistance. It represents the cunning and mystery of order from ancient times, and is a rare artifact in the entire universe."
"So you knew all along," Nelson said, stroking the helmet. "Then why didn't you just keep it for yourself?"
"The helmet is back in your hands not because of my kindness or anything else insignificant," Rune patted his shoulder, "but because the Order requires it. I'm not forcing you to wear the Helmet of Fate again, my friend. You have your own life, your own pursuits, and the helmet may have made you aware of the chains that exist behind the powerful forces of the Order."
Rune stared into the other person's eyes and said, "Order does not mean absolute justice, but it often represents the justice of the vast majority of people, and the reason I do not choose it is simple."
Under the bright white lights, amidst the unique smell of alcohol and disinfectant, Rune uttered words that Nelson would never forget for the rest of his life.
"I have my own sense of justice, Nelson. It's that simple."
