Chapter 154 The Death of Nick Fury
Chapter 154 The Death of Nick Fury (3k)
The next moment, the space carrier suddenly shook violently, and alarms blared through the sky: "Warning! High-energy reaction detected in outer space!"
A beam of light, brighter than the sun, pierced through several decks and blasted directly into the command center. Metal and composite materials were torn apart like paper, and amidst the blinding golden light, a figure slowly descended. It was Carol Danvers—Captain Marvel—her eyes gleaming with golden light, the emanating energy of the universe: "Nick Fury, you certainly know how to pick your timing!"
She had just been feasting with those hearty Asgardians. Despite their betrayal and the loss of loved ones and friends, they showed no sadness. Some Asgardians even regretted not dying in the battle and being unable to reach Valhalla. Their optimism inspired Captain Marvel, who temporarily put aside her worries about the future and joined them in drinking and eating heartily until Fury, under the cover of the blast shield, pressed the button on that old-fashioned pager.
Moonstone looked at Captain Marvel with apprehension, while the other Thunderbolts members were also on high alert, each holding their weapons and aiming them at Captain Marvel.
"You've come just in time, Captain." Fury struggled to his feet, feeling cold from blood loss.
While the two were still talking, Moonstone and Crossbones exchanged a glance and gave a signal. Moonstone then fired an energy beam, while Crossbones swiftly fired at Fury. As a former subordinate of Nick Fury, Crossbones knew very well just how much of a threat Fury was. This guy was a genius when it came to command, so he had long been on Red Skull's kill list.
Carol instinctively blocked the Moonstone's attack. When the two energy beams touched the energy field surrounding Carol, they vanished instantly, like mud sinking into the sea. With a mere wave of her hand, an invisible force field slammed Crossbones and the others against the wall. However, Captain Marvel could only absorb energy attacks, so Fury inevitably took the bullets, which unfortunately pierced his vitals.
"No—no—no!" Carol murmured to herself, grabbing Fury as he was about to fall. His black leather jacket was already soaked in blood. His mouth, which always wore a mocking smile, opened and closed slightly, as if he wanted to say something. Carol immediately leaned closer.
Then Fury whispered to Carol, "Go—" He nudged her as he said this. Captain Marvel, tears welling in her eyes, looked at her old friend, refusing to leave. Fury could only muster all his strength and punch Carol hard: "Go! Go now!"
Carol could only take flight, her gaze fixed on the faces of the Thunder Commandos. Moonstone and Crossbones watched her with cold smiles, Taskmaster stared intently at the dying man, Bucky remained expressionless, and Atlas and Singingbird turned their heads away, unwilling to witness the man's demise.
"I'll remember you!" With that, Captain Marvel left the Helicarrier, gazing at the massive ship from afar. If she wasn't mistaken—
Just as she expected, a violent explosion came from the spot where Fury had just died. That treacherous guy really liked to give these kinds of "breakup gifts."
Just as Carol was about to take action, dismantling this heartbreaking iron coffin as she had done to other invader ships in space, the old pager, which should have been completely silent, beeped.

Logan, Wolverine, stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, the glow of his cigar flickering in the darkness. Behind him stood a large group of alien magical puppets.
These alien creatures were like biological weapons crawling out of the depths of a nightmare, every inch of their bodies exuding a murderous aura of perfect evolution. They arched their nearly three-meter-tall bodies, their spines protruding like serrated teeth, gleaming with a wet, black glaze in the dim light, their arched skulls resembling the hoods of medieval handcuffs. Their nearly two-meter-long tail whipped intermittently, and low-frequency vibrations emanated from their throats, as if they were communicating something.
"These puppets are terrifying." Rakshasa looked at these horrifying creatures and couldn't help but shudder.
The Punisher merely glanced at Moon Knight: "I'm more concerned about whether the information Kong Su provided is accurate."
"I believe him. But remember the rules." Logan exhaled a smoke ring, his steel claws slowly extending. "Only kill the politicians mentioned in Rune's memories. Don't harm the innocent."
"Innocent?" The Punisher sneered, inspecting his modified rifle. Even the darkness couldn't hinder him, thanks to those magical sunglasses. "Those guys here? You're kidding, aren't you?"
Blade drew his silver longsword: "Hydra controls sixty percent of Congress, and every night these politicians vote on bills that exacerbate conflicts between heroes and impose sanctions on other countries. But tonight, we're going to teach them a lesson—a lesson called: 'Evil deeds will inevitably lead to one's downfall.' What do you think?"
The Rakshasa woman nervously rubbed her gloves: "Even so—I don't know if this is right—we're carrying out massacres without trial. In that case, how are we any different from those beasts who persecute mutants?"
"This is the judgment." Moon Rider's chilling voice startled the Rakshasa woman. "Believe me, and believe in my god. The Moon God Kongsu has already declared them guilty, Rune also believes them guilty, and I believe them guilty even more, so..."
Just then, Erica emerged from the darkness, interrupting the Moon Knight, followed by several puppets.
Their claws, tails, and mouths were dripping with blood, and the pungent smell of blood filled the air: "The underground passage has been cleaned up."
We can launch a full-scale attack now.
Logan stubbed out his cigar. "Okay, let's begin."
The lights of the Capitol Building looked especially warm in the rainy night. Senator Jess Morris was in his office signing a final document that not only cut S.H.I.E.L.D.'s budget but also implicitly proposed clauses that could effectively lock S.H.I.E.L.D. into the United States.
As for the United Nations—who cares about the UN's opinion? If it weren't for the US, there wouldn't even be a UN.
But just as Morris's pen touched the paper, the window shattered with a deafening roar. When he looked up, he saw a terrifying monster, like something out of a horror movie, standing on his desk, dark red blood dripping from between its teeth.
"No—you can't do this!" Morris screamed, pressing the alarm button under the table, but nothing happened. "I'm a U.S. Senator! If you hurt me, you're going against America! Think about the consequences!"
"Oh? How come I didn't know about this?" Wolverine stepped out from behind the monster, his steel claws gleaming coldly. "As far as I know, harming you was to provoke Hydra, wasn't it?"
The moment the steel claw pierced his chest, Maurice coughed up blood, and screams echoed across the other side of the Capitol. The Punisher blasted open a blast door to a basement with a shotgun, revealing a dozen or so members of Congress huddled together behind it. At that moment, these figures at the pinnacle of American society screamed.
One of the women knelt on the ground, screaming, "Please, don't kill us! They forced us to take poison. If we don't do as they say, we'll die. We have no other choice—"
The Punisher's bullets shattered her pleas. Brain matter and unidentified green splattered onto the Stars and Stripes. Normal brains don't contain green stuff, suggesting these congressmen may indeed have been coerced.
"Frank!" The Rakshasa woman turned pale upon seeing this scene.
The Punisher changed to a new magazine. "Alright, they've admitted to betraying their country, betraying their people, and sending our children to Hydra's labs. I've heard far too many of those stories, but—"
Frank then looked at the Rakshasa woman meaningfully: "I ask you, are their lives lives, but ours aren't?"
With a cold, decisive shot, he blew the head off another mutating congressman: "Since you've become a congressman, you should be prepared to sacrifice yourself for your country!"
"This is too inefficient," Erica emerged from the shadows, two still-twitching bodies impaled on her trident. "Some kind of ritual is taking place on the second basement level. We need to speed things up!"
The Moon Knight's white robes suddenly fluttered without wind: "Kong Su told me that something even older than the Hydra is awakening underground...."
In every corner of the Capitol, Rune's three hundred magical puppets were methodically executing each target in a suit, red and green blood pooling in the corridors. Just then, a voice came through Frank's portable headset. He nodded and then addressed the others present: "The National Guard is assembling. We have less than twenty minutes."
Logan looked at the others: "Time's up, kids. Shall we retreat now, or go down and see what kind of monster they're summoning?"
The Punisher had already headed towards the stairwell: "I never leave before the mission is complete, and besides, I'm not a child!"
Blade followed behind Punisher, inspecting his weapons.
Just now, he killed several vampire senators—these guys were one of the pieces of evidence of the deal between the United States and vampires.
These lawmakers had previously been committed to ensuring the legal right of vampires to live within the United States, and these law-abiding vampires were not on the Daywalker's kill list. But now, they have betrayed the United States and the vampire race. However, with the help of the Xenomorphs, Blade easily dealt with these formidable opponents.
A tremor came, this time accompanied by a low, inhuman groan, as if it came from the depths of the earth.
Logan sneered, "Wow, looks like a big one."
