Chapter 6 Gordon's Gratitude
Please don't come near me!
The girl, her face streaked with tears, huddled in a corner, her expression filled with the same fear as the other pedestrians.
"I will clean the classroom... and I will bring the money to you tomorrow... please don't hurt me... please don't hurt me..."
The huge black-rimmed glasses had somehow slipped off the girl's face, revealing a pale face filled with fear.
The girl, crouching in a street corner, sobbed uncontrollably, clutching her head tightly, seemingly trying to escape some non-existent bully.
"Hey...Pamela?"
I saw the girl who gave me the ability to study botany at Gotham University yesterday. After spotting her, Lucius immediately jumped off the roof of the car and went to the female college student's side.
She trembled uncontrollably as she huddled in the corner, her disheveled school uniform giving this otherwise plain and old-fashioned girl a sudden touch of delicate beauty.
This bookworm, who knew absolutely nothing about dressing himself, instead exuded a broken and pitiful aura due to his fear.
"How are you?"
Ambulances were already arriving on the street not far away. Masked medical workers began to control the injured, and police officers in uniform began to direct traffic...
But in this tiny corner, it failed to attract anyone's attention.
Looking at the girl shivering in the corner, Lucius felt a sense of gratitude towards her.
If it weren't for his partially unlocked botany skills that made Lucius realize the poison gas had hallucinogenic effects, he probably would have been terrified by the Joker's illusions long ago...
With a touch of guilt and a desire to "skill up," Lucius approached the girl, only to be met with a blinding crimson light.
Are you injured?
Crouching down, Lucius anxiously grasped Pamela's shoulders, but could only feel the tremors emanating from her body.
Upon discovering the wound on the girl's calf, Lucius breathed a sigh of relief and understood why the girl's face was so pale.
Unlike those thugs who attack others in a frenzy of fear, this poor girl didn't even have the courage to fight back. Even when faced with harm, she would only hide like an ostrich.
Listening to the other person's repeated murmurs of "sorry," "I'm sorry," and "please" out of fear, Lucius felt incredibly heavy-hearted.
The terrifying gas, released in a single instance, plunged the entire Gotham city into chaos and bloodshed.
Gotham is still Gotham. Even with Batman and Gordon doing their best to resist, they can't stop the massive destruction caused by a very small number of dangerous individuals.
Even if the general crime rate here is kept to a minimum, just a few troublemakers causing a little chaos can inflict enormous losses on Gotham City...
Innocent people like Pamela or Mary can also be caught up in this turmoil, suffering injury or even death...
With a heavy heart, Lucius reached out to help the girl stop the bleeding, but felt a hand grab his wrist.
Looking up, Lucius saw a pair of large eyes filled with fear.
"No..."
The girl, in a state of fear, resisted almost all touch; she subconsciously rejected any action that touched her.
"It's okay... I'll help you..."
Lucius gently comforted her, patting the back of her hand, which was thin and somewhat bony.
Perhaps the effects of the poison gas were slowly dissipating, or perhaps she vaguely recognized the person in front of her, Pamela's expression gradually softened, and the strength in her hands gradually weakened, allowing this "strange person" to begin touching her.
After removing Pamela's shoes and socks, Lucius immediately noticed the penetrating wound above her ankle.
Shooting, car accidents, or being pierced by a sharp object during a fall or collision...
Lucius wasn't quite sure what caused the wound... When the fear gas spread, everyone on the street lost their minds.
Holding the other's soft, delicate calf, Lucius casually tore off two strips of cloth and temporarily bandaged the wound to stop the bleeding.
"Lucius...Lucius?"
Hearing a soft call, the officer, who had finished his work, looked up and met a pair of eyes that were gradually regaining their clarity.
It was as if the two had met again; the unfamiliarity in Pamela's eyes gradually faded...
"It's you!"
Tears suddenly welled up in her eyes, and the girl, still gripped by fear, suddenly opened her arms and hugged the police officer who couldn't dodge her tightly!
A floral fragrance, accompanied by a soft warmth, wafted into his arms, leaving the officer, who had just had his wound treated, somewhat at a loss.
"You're still injured... don't get too excited."
"I'm terrified... What happened? I'm so scared..."
The effects of the poison gas had not completely dissipated; the terrified girl continued to tremble, and various hallucinations flashed uncontrollably through her mind.
Pamela found warmth and light only among those terrifying figures... and clung to them tightly like a drowning person grasping at a straw, refusing to let go.
"Okay... everything will be alright..."
Inhaling the fragrance emanating from her hair, Old Lu, who had never been so intimate with a woman before, looked embarrassed. He tilted his head to look at the street, casting a pleading glance at his fellow police officers...
Unfortunately, nobody paid any attention.
The two remained in this awkward stalemate until Pamela's breathing gradually stabilized and her trembling subsided. Only then did the medical staff, who had finished treating the most dangerous patients, finally come to Lucius's side and pull the still-frightened girl away.
"This time...it's all thanks to you."
A haggard-looking Sheriff Gordon slowly walked over, tightly grasped the new officer's right hand, and his eyes were filled with relief.
"If you hadn't taken those gangsters under control beforehand, the casualties here would have been even greater..."
"What's the current situation?"
Watching Pamela being lifted into the ambulance and taken to the hospital for mental health rehabilitation and examination like other citizens, Lucius turned slightly and looked at the sheriff with a complicated expression.
"Let's go back and talk. Wayne Group's insurance company will handle things here."
With a long sigh, Sheriff Gordon patted Lucius on the shoulder and got into his patrol car.
......
Back at the police station, Sergeant Gordon wiped his glasses, his tone a mixture of helplessness and relief:
"This incident resulted in bloodshed and conflict involving at least fifty people. Fortunately, there have been no deaths so far. The unluckiest guy only suffered internal organ rupture and massive bleeding. He received timely treatment and will recover after a period of rest."
Pointing to the monitoring screen on the computer, Gordon looked at Lucius with admiration in his eyes.
"Thanks to you this time, you stopped those guys from firing indiscriminately, otherwise there would definitely have been deaths, but..."
"When did your marksmanship become so good?"
According to the surveillance footage, this young police officer, who had only been in Gotham for a short time, took down more than a dozen armed criminals with just a Glock rifle.
Although those gang members were in poor mental condition, they were still armed with over a dozen rifles firing wildly!
Scratching his head, Lucius gave a wry smile: "Just luck."
"Luck... well, anyway, you've done a great job this time, it's just a pity we still lost track of that batch of contraband..."
Even with his glasses on, Sheriff Gordon remained very worried.
He also hopes to reward the young man who saved the day right now and let him get some rest.
Unfortunately, Gotham's disaster had only just begun.
The Penguin's goods were stolen; even a fool could imagine how furious that troublesome guy would be.
It seems things aren't going to calm down in Gotham for a while...
Seeing Gordon's utter helplessness, Lucius asked in surprise, "Goods? Didn't I put a tracking device on that batch of contraband?"
"What?!"
His dejected expression vanished, and Sheriff Gordon looked at his trusted officer with a face full of surprise: "You even attached tracking devices to that shipment?!"
