Chapter 53 Psychological Shadow
"Bang!"
A powerful blow landed on the scarecrow's face.
His face contorted in shock, his evil eyes glazing into a daze, completely stunned by Batman's sudden attack.
Batman snatched the dangerous remote control from Scarecrow's hand and grabbed him by the collar like a chicken, slowly walking out of the pharmacy.
The familiar figure appeared before him. The officer holding the gun curled his lip and put the pistol back in its holster.
"What are you doing here?"
From the moment he heard the guy's voice, Lucius knew that he wouldn't have a chance to take action himself for the time being.
"I... am tracking a suspect."
Thinking of the thief who had roamed Lucius's house, the expression hidden behind the bat mask suddenly became somewhat awkward.
He lost track of the guy, but also spotted the scarecrow lurking near the hospital.
Weighing the pros and cons, Batman temporarily abandoned his pursuit of a petty thief and instead set his sights on Scarecrow, who had previously escaped from his grasp and attempted to release poison gas in the hospital.
"I originally wanted to follow him to find all the sources of the poison in the hospital, but I found that he went directly to the vicinity of your ward."
When the gunshot rang out, Batman guessed that Scarecrow might have fled to the place he had set up in advance, so he waited calmly by the trap, waiting for his prey to take the bait.
Do you have a grudge against him?
Batman could vaguely see the decisiveness with which Lucius fired the shot, and he could sense a clear killing intent emanating from the officer.
"Of course...you don't even look at who caused this."
He glanced at the unconscious Scarecrow with annoyance; this guy was probably the first villain Lucius had offended in Gotham.
He was simply carrying out a routine police mission when, under Batman's arrangement, he disrupted Scarecrow's plans, even having Batman steal his batch of chemical materials en route...
If Batman can't be found, then the other party will only be able to cause trouble for themselves, right?
Unable to respond to Lucius's dissatisfaction, Batman, realizing he was in the wrong, could only tie the Scarecrow up tightly:
"I'll send him to Arkham Asylum, where he won't have another chance to hurt anyone."
"I hope so..."
Knowing this would be the outcome, Lucius had no intention of killing anyone in front of Batman.
Ultimately, one's safety depends on continuously improving one's strength. Gotham poses far too many threats; there are too many to eliminate...
Of course, Lucius would not hold back at all in Batman's absence.
He didn't want to be like President Lincoln, who was determined to eliminate his enemies spiritually and turn them into friends, only to be physically eliminated by a roadside gunman.
"By the way, I saw a petty thief go near your ward. Did you see anything suspicious?"
Before calling in more police to clean up the toxic substances in the hospital, Batman still makes sure to remind Lucius.
Suspicious guy?
Lucius paused, his first thought being of the beautiful woman sent by the Penguin.
and many more.
That thief is beautiful... Could he be Catwoman?
"Hmm? Did you see her?" Batman stopped and asked with a hint of doubt, noticing the unusual look on Lucius's face.
In a strange mood, Lucius reached for his police officer's handbook on his chest and quickly scanned it, reviewing his current abilities—
Nothing related to 'theft' was unlocked.
"...No, it shouldn't be. I haven't seen anyone suspicious."
Lucius's tone was firm as he recalled seeing that woman throwing a tantrum and behaving horribly not long ago.
Such a thing is absolutely impossible!
Catwoman, elegant, mysterious, dangerous, is practically the epitome of the perfect thief. How could she possibly be the one who completely loses the ability to resist after inhaling poison gas?
If it really was Catwoman, shouldn't the other party have fled the moment they sensed the poison gas?
If they didn't have this much sense, they would have been caught in various traps during the theft, and then a lot of unspeakable things would have happened.
"Is that so?"
Lucius's strange expression made Batman's tone become somewhat flippant.
Why did he feel that the police officer was protecting the woman who was good at hiding?
After a moment's thought, Batman decided not to tell Lucius about the burglary for the time being.
If there really is some strange connection between them, it's best to let them handle this themselves.
"but..."
Carrying the scarecrow, Batman, whose spirit remained unaffected, couldn't help but exclaim, "The antidote is really effective."
This time, Scarecrow seemed to have improved the poison gas. When he rushed into the ward carrying a huge gas canister, Batman was genuinely worried for Lucius's safety.
Clearly, the Scarecrow had added something to the poison gas that Lucius had specially prepared. Such a terrifying gas would have been devastating to an ordinary person.
But Batman knew one thing: this officer was not as easy to control as he had imagined.
As it turned out, Batman's judgment was correct. The Scarecrow was almost powerless against Lucius, and even Batman himself easily crossed the Scarecrow's trap thanks to the antidote.
"Wait, what did you say?"
Lucius, who was walking ahead, suddenly turned around and stared at Batman, who had made a slip of the tongue.
An antidote? By the way, how did Batman manage to ignore the fear gas?
Didn't he lose half of his chemical raw materials last time?
"I suddenly remembered I have some things to take care of. Let's talk later if there are any problems."
With a troubled expression and still unable to find a suitable reason or excuse, Batman waved his hand and quickly left the hospital with Scarecrow.
"Hey! Wait a minute, let's talk again sometime. Maybe we can develop an investment project!" Lucius shouted excitedly at the man's departing figure.
"Come find me later!"
......
"Ha...who knows how many more innocent patients will be sent to Arkham Asylum this time..."
The uninvited guest in the hospital had been driven away, and Lucius returned to his ward with a sigh.
Perhaps because it was night, the effects of the small-scale release of the fear gas in the hospital were limited. Most of the people who fell into a deep sleep had only experienced an extremely terrible nightmare.
Some of them will suffer indelible psychological trauma from this incident... but compared to losing limbs or even their lives, such a price is relatively minor.
Stepping into the ward, Lucius saw the girl he couldn't stop worrying about, currently sitting beside the poisoned woman, a few thin green leaves still clinging to the ends of her hair...
"Did you just go out, Pamela?"
Having confirmed her safety, Lucius's last remaining worries completely dissipated.
"No... I'm taking care of her."
The shy girl pointed to Selena, whose expression was gradually calming down, and chuckled as she plucked the leaf from the top of her head.
You don't have to keep following him around.
A friendly reminder came from her mind, but it couldn't change Pamela's mind.
"I'm just worried about him getting hurt again."
While silently responding in her heart, Pamela took Lucius's right hand and carefully unwrapped the bandage, which was now a mess of blood. As she re-bandaged it, she spoke in a gentle tone:
"This woman is very emotionally unstable, and I think she may need some psychological counseling."
"Is that so?"
Was the elixir given a little too late?
Turning his head to look at Selena in the ward, Lucius found that her eyes were still full of fear of him, and he clicked his tongue slightly.
"I hope it won't leave any permanent psychological trauma."
