Hogwarts: Don't call me the Staff Maker

Chapter 741 Black Magic Detector

Chapter 741 Black Magic Detector

"It's a success!"

"It was just finished, just ten minutes ago."

When Fred and George returned to the wand shop, they immediately showed Siron their newly invented product.

Something that looked like an old-fashioned radio, about the size of two Quakes, with a long pointer on top, looked quite heavy, and Fred hung it around his neck in a leather bag.

Xilun looked at the thing and raised an eyebrow thoughtfully.

"It looks a bit like the one Filch used."

Previously, to prevent students from bringing dark magic items into the school, Filch would always carry a strange device and check every student passing by at the castle gate.

If they are carrying anything related to dark magic, whether it's a joke or a spellbook, the device will immediately emit a sharp alarm.

"A black magic detector." George shrugged. "We've heard Ron mention it. It's a product from the last century, but it's still very useful in this day and age."

"But we made something better." Fred placed the thing around his neck on the counter.

"We made some further modifications based on this."

"Now they cover a wider area, so you don't need to get close to find traces of dark magic."

"And it's even more sensitive—"

"It can even detect dark magic used a week ago."

"Do Dementors count?" Siron suddenly remembered something and casually said, "Don't forget that Dementors appeared in Diagon Alley a few days ago."

"No," George shook his head. "Honestly, I still don't understand why Dementors aren't considered dark magic creatures."

"Especially the Dementor's kiss—it sucks away your soul, leaving only a living body, which feels even more terrifying than the Avada Kedavra curse."

Seemingly contemplating a terrifying scene, the two shuddered and stopped talking.

Fred raised their black magic detector again.

"With this, we'll definitely be able to find that Death Eater hiding in Diagon Alley!"

After speaking with great confidence, he immediately took his things and walked out of the wand shop, ready to show Siron their masterpiece.

However, more than ten minutes passed, but the instrument did not make a sound at all. Instead, the two of them were breathing more and more heavily.

It wasn't until they got close to the middle of Diagon Alley that the instrument suddenly flashed a red light, accompanied by a piercing buzz, and the pointer whirred to the left front.

"Found it!"

"See? We told you it would definitely work—"

The two excitedly told Xilun.

However, Xilun pointed to the entrance of a nearby alley, which was the place indicated by the pointer.

"Tumble Lane—seriously, if your equipment doesn't start working by the time you get here, then there's something wrong with it."

Knockturn Lane is one of the most famous gathering places for black magic practitioners in all of Britain; anyone you pick there is a staunch believer in black magic. You can buy black magic-related items in any of the shops there.

If the detector still hasn't made a move by the time we get here, Xilun will really start to doubt whether what they've made is even usable.

After being reminded by Celen, Fred and George realized that they had already walked halfway down Diagon Alley.

This also means that there are no people or items that have used dark magic hidden between the entrance to the Leaky Cauldron and Knockout Alley.

Fred wanted to continue, but Celen felt it was unnecessary.

Further ahead lies Gringotts, and no one knows exactly what's hidden in its underground vaults, or how much of it is dark magic.

If the Weasley brothers' instrument could actually detect inside the vault, the second half of the movie would probably have been going on and on.

Furthermore, if we go any further, the wand shop will be quite far away, so even if Death Eaters wanted to keep watch, they wouldn't choose that location.

George looked somewhat unwilling.

"It's okay, at least it proves that Diagon Alley is safe for now," Celan said. "We don't need to be paranoid all the time, feeling like someone is watching us."

"That's all we can think about now, isn't it?" Fred said, and stopped trying to move forward.

However, on the way back, he kept fiddling with the black magic detector, wondering if it was because the detection range was too small.

"George, we should accept the silver candlestick that Sirius brought the first time."

"Yes, that silver candlestick is much bigger than the silver fork, so its range is definitely much greater."

"What are you talking about?" Xiren asked curiously. "What silver candlestick?"

"A key component of the Black Magic Detector is made of enchanted silver," George explained. "But now all the shops are closed, and we can't buy that metal."

"Sirius happens to have some."

"Those old tableware and ornaments in number twelve Grimmauld Place are all made of this metal."

"A wealthy pure-blood family."

"Magic Silver—isn't Sico okay?" Siren asked. "Sico should be considered Magic Silver, right?"

"It counts, but it's unusable." Fred shook his head and explained, "In fact, neither Sikor, Galon, nor Nat can perform any form of alchemy."

"The fairies used some tricks."

"But nobody knows what they did."

"Alright." Sirius nodded. "So, after you came back from Privet Drive that day, you saw Sirius again?"

"Yes." Fred gave Sirius a strange look. "Didn't we just say that Sirius provided us with important materials?"

"How is he?" Siren asked. "I mean, nothing unusual happened there after we left Privet Drive that day, right?"

"Probably not—at least I haven't heard Dad mention anything special, and besides, the Order of the Phoenix hasn't held a meeting," George said after thinking for a moment.

"Oh, I almost forgot, when we left, Dad asked me to buy him a bottle of Flame Whisky."

"Then let's go to the Leaky Cauldron; they're usually never closed," Celen said. "But does Mr. Weasley like Flamingo whiskey?"

"He didn't like it before," Fred shook his head, "but now he's under too much pressure."

"He needs to cooperate with the Order of the Phoenix and also keep an eye on a few people in the Ministry of Magic who are not on the right track, so as not to let them leak any information."

"He's been taking a little bit of a sobering potion mixed with whiskey with his breakfast lately."

"It's said to help him relax a lot."

Whiskey mixed with sobering agents?

This was the first time Siren had heard of this combination; it must have been something Mr. Weasley came up with himself.

The group arrived at the entrance to Diagon Alley and walked from the backyard into the bar.

However, just as they passed through the door in the wall, the dark magic detector hanging around Fred's neck suddenly lit up and emitted a very soft beeping sound.
