Douluo Continent: Steadily Growing Stronger in Shrek Academy

Chapter 6: The First Battle of the Freshman Assessment

At this time, in Zone 1, besides the ten groups of freshmen participating in the competition, there was also an external academy teacher serving as a referee and several healing-type soul masters.

Fortunately, Shrek Academy's outer court has a large enough arena with enough fighting rings; otherwise, just queuing up for a match would waste a lot of time.

On the stage, the referee announced expressionlessly, "The first match is between Lin Chen's team from Class 1 of the freshmen and Zhou Yuan's team from Class 9 of the freshmen. Please come to the stage."

Lin Chen, Zhou Mingxing, and Lin Xiaolei stepped onto the stage at the same time.

At the same time, three students from the opposite side also stepped onto the stage; all three were boys.

The referee continued, "State your names!"

"Lin Chen, Class 1, Freshmen."

"Zhou Mingxing, Class 1, Freshmen."

"Lin Xiaolei, Class 1, Freshmen."

"Zhou Yuan, Class 9, Freshmen."

"Class 9, freshmen, Jack Ma."

"Class 9, freshmen, Marin."

Wait a minute? Jack Ma?

"The match begins!"

At the referee's command, the six people on the field instantly activated their martial spirits.

Among them, Lin Chen's combination of one yellow and one purple soul rings that surpasses the limit is the most eye-catching.

"What kind of spirit ring configuration is this?" Zhou Yuan exclaimed in surprise.

Lin Chen and Lin Xiaolei are both Great Soul Masters with two Soul Rings, while Zhou Mingxing only has one yellow Soul Ring, but his Soul Power has already reached level eighteen, which is quite excellent for a food-type Soul Master.

The three people opposite them, however, blatantly displayed six yellow spirit rings.

All three of them were actually Great Soul Masters with two hundred-year-old Soul Rings!

Without time to think, Lin Chen, wielding the Seven Kill Sword, charged towards Zhou Yuan at incredible speed. Upon seeing this, Zhou Yuan roared, "Battle Bear, Possess!"

In an instant, Zhou Yuan's muscles bulged, and he looked much bigger.

The two Soul Masters weren't idle either; they summoned their Martial Souls and headed towards Lin Xiaolei and Zhou Mingxing. Their Martial Souls were Silver Shields, whose defensive power was considered quite strong among those of the same level. At this moment, Lin Chen was fighting the enemy captain, and Zhou Mingxing was a Food-type Soul Master, so Lin Xiaolei naturally found herself in a one-against-two situation. Fortunately, she had Zhou Mingxing's Little Dumplings to support her, and since the opponents were defensive types, it wasn't too difficult for her.

Zhou Yi stood on the stands, looking down at the six people who had summoned their martial spirits.

As one of the few Great Soul Masters in the class, Lin Chen and Lin Xiaolei naturally attracted Zhou Yi's attention. Although her attention was entirely on Huo Yuhao, the combination of Lin Chen's one yellow and one purple soul rings that surpassed the limit truly surprised her.

Just as Zhou Yi was watching the game, Mu Jin's voice suddenly rang in her ears.

"Zhou Yi, I never expected your class to have a student with the Seven Kill Sword Martial Soul. You're really lucky," Mu Jin said to Zhou Yi in a sarcastic tone.

"You're not bad either. Don't you have a student in your class with the Earth War Bear martial spirit? You know, among bear-type martial spirits, the Earth War Bear is second only to the Dark Gold Terror Claw Bear."

……

"A head-on clash?" Lin Chen thought to himself.

"First Soul Skill, Earth Bear Claw!"

"First Soul Skill, Longsword Emerges from the Peak!"

The Seven Kill Sword clashed with the Earth Bear Claw, and Zhou Yuan was forced back several meters, blood flowing from his hands and the corners of his mouth. However, Lin Chen wouldn't give him time to catch his breath; he wanted to defeat his opponent as quickly as possible.

Before Zhou Yuan could even catch his breath, he saw Lin Chen running towards him.

Without hesitation, Zhou Yuan activated his second soul skill, Earth War Spirit.

Earthly Battle Intent increases one's soul power by 10% and doubles one's physical attributes.

"Take this!" Zhou Yuan roared, his thick bear paw hurtling straight at Lin Chen.

Lin Chen, however, neither dodged nor avoided the attack, his momentum undiminished. Even Zhou Yi in the stands was worried for Lin Chen, while Mu Jin's lips curled into a smile.

"Xiaotu!"

"Brother Lin!"

Lin Xiaolei, who was protecting Zhou Mingxing, and Zhou Mingxing, who was being protected, both cried out anxiously upon seeing this situation.

Lin Xiaolei was already in a bad situation, entangled with two defensive Soul Masters with Silver Shield Martial Souls. Now, because of Lin Chen, she was distracted and was hit in the arm by a shield.

"Sister Xiaolei! Dumplings, dumplings, my mango dumplings!" Zhou Mingxing used his first soul skill, adjusting his position while tossing the dumplings to Lin Xiaolei.

Lin Xiaolei felt much better after eating the mango dumplings, but she still kept an eye on Lin Chen's situation. The two Silver Shield Soul Masters also stopped to watch how their captain defeated the enemy.

Unfortunately, they did not get what they wanted.

Just as the bear's paw was about to strike Lin Chen's chest, Lin Chen dodged it with an incredible gait.

Lingbo Weibu! The martial art created by Master Jin, a movement technique that combines dodging and shifting, was now being used by Lin Chen.

From the moment he began cultivating, Lin Chen had already figured it out: since he didn't have a cheat system, he would create his own—the memories of Blue Star! Looking back on his previous life, Lin Chen was also a person who enjoyed reading novels, having read all kinds of novels, including martial arts, fantasy, and cultivation novels.

Relying on his memories, Lin Chen "found" several skills suitable for him to cultivate, including the Lingbo Weibu (a martial arts technique). This is why he is only level 24; otherwise, with Lin Chen's aptitude, he would not have been inferior to Tang San in terms of soul power level back then.

Lin Chen knew that Lingbo Weibu was no less powerful than the Ghost Shadow Step of the Tang Sect, so a month after he began practicing it, he started practicing Lingbo Weibu himself. Now, he had mastered it to perfection.

"What kind of movement technique is that?" Mu Jin asked in surprise.

Zhou Yi also looked puzzled. It seemed that no one in the Douluo Continent had ever used this kind of footwork in the past ten thousand years. Could it be a self-created soul skill?

If Lin Chen knew Zhou Yi's thoughts, he would definitely tell her, "No, no, no, I'm not that talented. I could 'steal' a whole bunch of those self-created soul skills you mentioned."

On the stage

Seeing that Lin Chen had narrowly escaped Zhou Yuan's palm strike, Lin Xiaolei and Zhou Mingxing breathed a sigh of relief.

While surprised, Zhou Yuan instantly rushed towards Lin Chen again. This enhanced state wouldn't last long; once it ended, he would immediately enter a weakened state, essentially being eliminated. Therefore, he needed to finish off the three opponents before his berserk state ended, at least taking down the sword-wielding Soul Master. Although he didn't know what kind of sword Lin Chen wielded, judging from the fact that the previous attack had caused him to bleed, that sword was definitely not an ordinary Soul Spirit. The Earth War Bear Soul Spirit was extremely powerful among bear-type Soul Spirits, boasting formidable attack and defense compared to others of the same level. At the same cultivation level, ordinary swords couldn't penetrate the defenses of this type of Soul Beast. However, the Seven Kill Sword was the world's number one offensive weapon Soul Spirit, renowned throughout the continent ten thousand years ago. Therefore, it was perfectly normal for Lin Chen to be able to injure Zhou Yuan.

Lin Chen clearly realized that Zhou Yuan's state wouldn't last long, so he didn't intend to confront him head-on. Instead, he used the Lingbo Weibu (a martial arts technique) to move around and unleash sword energy.

Zhou Yuan was also in a bad situation. Not only was he unable to attack Lin Chen, but the sword energy that Lin Chen unleashed was also accompanied by powerful attack and penetrating force. Although he had activated Berserk, he still needed to use a small portion of his soul power to neutralize it.

As a result, Zhou Yuan's soul power was quickly exhausted, and he also exited the berserk state.

Seeing this, Lin Chen gripped the Seven Kill Sword and charged straight at Zhou Yuan. The two Silver Shield Soul Masters, seeing this, wanted to rush over to support Zhou Yuan.

"First Soul Skill, Lingering Melody!" Lin Xiaolei unleashed her first soul skill.

The two Silver Shield Soul Masters already had low mental strength, and under the effect of Lin Xiaolei's Soul Skill, they were immediately rendered dizzy.

Just as the Seven Kill Sword was about to strike Zhou Yuan, the referee suddenly appeared, blocking the sword for him and announcing, "Zhou Yuan from Class 2 of the freshmen, eliminated!"

Seeing Zhou Yuan's disheveled state, Lin Chen thought for a moment and then said, "Zhou, you should admit defeat. We're in a three-on-two situation now, and there's also a food-type Soul Master. It wouldn't be good if your classmate got hurt accidentally."

Zhou Yuan thought for a moment, then said with a bitter expression, "We concede defeat in this match."

"Class 1 of Freshmen, Lin Chen's team wins!" The referee announced the result of the match.

"Sister Xiaolei!" Zhou Mingxing rushed over to help Lin Xiaolei. The attack from that Silver Shield Soul Master was quite powerful.

At this moment, Lin Xiaolei's face was a little pale, and Zhou Mingxing immediately made another mango ball.

"Xiaolei, I'm sorry. Next time this happens, I'll hold off the two of them by myself." Lin Chen also felt a little guilty. As the offensive Soul Master in the team, he had actually let a girl fight against two Battle Soul Masters.

"It's nothing, just a minor injury. I'll be fine after a rest," Lin Xiaolei said with a smile.

After receiving treatment from the healing Soul Master, Lin Chen and Zhou Mingxing escorted Lin Xiaolei back to her dormitory so she could focus on recovering. Then, the two returned to the arena to continue watching the other students' matches.

"Do you feel like you're holding Xiaolei back?" Lin Chen asked, seeing Zhou Mingxing's dejected expression sitting next to him and guessing what was going on.

"Hmm. Brother Lin, am I really useless? Sister Xiaolei did it to protect me..."

Lin Chen stretched out a hand, interrupting Zhou Mingxing's speech, and said, "Actually, I have a plan, do you want to hear it?"
