"And you?"
“I have someone I like, Miss Li Ying Wesley.”
"Yay~ My love is so old-fashioned~"
"How are your preparations going? The old captain helped us set up a repair shop a few days ago. I also have a little surprise for you."
"I spoke with Susanna, and she's very supportive of my coming. I've been helping out at Liz recently, and I can come over anytime you return!"
"Okay, I'll pick you up after I finish meeting with the client. I'll hang up now, Jack suddenly called."
"Okay, I'll wait for you, bye-bye~"
Vito answered Jack's call and glanced at the rearview camera; Jack was not far behind his car.
"What's wrong, Jack? Is there some emergency?"
"Vito, pull over so we can take a look. The robot in the trunk looks like it's crying, it's really creepy!"
"Cry? Putting aside the fact that the robot is crying, the wind outside is howling like ghosts, and you can still hear something crying in the trunk?"
Vito braked the car, and Jack parked the magician behind Vito. He jumped out of the car, pulled out the golden shrew with both hands, and carefully led Vito toward the magician's trunk.
"Waaaaah~ These bastards, damn it! I want to go home! Go eat shit! Waaaaah~"
Vito, fearing the robot would jump out of the car and run away, placed several trigger-activated electromagnetic pulse grenades next to it. At this moment, the robot was curled up in a ball and crying, but its little mouth was as sweet as honey.
"What the hell are you wailing about? All you do in the middle of the night is cry, cry, cry! I'm taking you away not so you can stand here yelling like a ghost!"
When Vito saw that it was indeed a robot crying, he immediately put a lot of pressure on the robot.
"You damn pretty boy, you won't even let me cry! Waaaaah~"
The robot spoke the most vicious words in the most cowardly tone, which infuriated Vito.
"You're defying the heavens! Are you trying to rebel? You'd better have some kind of 'Skynet' backing you up!"
Vito detonated an electromagnetic pulse grenade, giving the robot an electrotherapy treatment, and then dragged it off the vehicle and gave it a thorough beating.
The scene was so shocking that even Jack couldn't help but step forward to stop Vito.
"Forget it, Vito, forget it. The robot might have been damaged. It's just being childish. Don't hold a grudge against a robot."
The robot was curled up on the road, howling and begging for mercy while thanking Jack for saving him.
"Please stop hitting me, you son of a bitch! You're going to beat me to a pulp! Waaah! Thank you, you bullfrog with a chunk of its brain shattered on its body, I forgive you for shooting me in the head twice!"
Jack's face instantly went into battle mode.
"Holy crap! Mano, let's tear this industrial junk apart!"
Vito agreed, saying that the robot's program ran in the voice of an FPS game, and its mouth was the toughest part of its body.
Jack and Vito put the robots in a mixed tag team fight, and the Robots Protection Association will definitely post these two violent thugs online when they see this.
"Waaaaah~ Stop hitting me! That's not what I meant. I've been spending too much time with the boss and I've forgotten how to communicate normally with people. I'm apologizing and begging you to stop hitting me!"
The two of them beat up the robot who called himself Little Cha, and his kind personality emerged, and he stopped babbling.
Vito picked up little Cha.
"You don't look like an ordinary robot. Where did the Bayonet Gang get your kind of stuff?"
Cha's voice was choked with sobs, which clashed with his robotic appearance.
"Little Cha and his father were riding in a big truck. His father told Little Cha to stay in the truck and watch over his brothers and sisters. Little Cha was picking up screws in the truck when suddenly everyone flew up and crashed into each other. When Little Cha went to find his father, his father had become flat. Later, Little Cha met the eldest brother, who told him to become a night ghost."
Vito listened to Cha's account, which was basically about a rich second-generation who led a group of people to conduct research for many years and finally developed a batch of high-intensity combat robots.
The materials used in these robots are all the latest. The second generation somehow obtained a smart AI and activated one of the robots, which is Cha.
Later, Zeta Technologies found out about this and moved the entire research team there. The second generation was unwilling to give all his efforts to Zeta Technologies, so he drove a truck carrying robots to other places. He dared not take the main roads and could only take wild roads with cacti on his back. Then, he must have overturned the truck and lost his life.
The Bayonet Gang was nearby at the time. They discovered the robots and also found Little Cha. They took the robots to Angel Eye.
Angel Eyes originally wanted to sell Little Cha, but the only place in Night City that sells such things is Dogtown, and Angel Eyes dared not linger under Kurt Hansen's nose.
"Okay, we won't hit you. Come home with us and we'll fix your injuries. What else will you call yourself besides Little Cha?"
Vito patted Cha on the shoulder to comfort him.
"My name is Chappie."
"Uh, never mind, you can still call him Xiao Cha. We'll let you sit in the car, but you can't cause trouble, understand?"
"I know, Xiao Cha definitely won't cause trouble!"
“Okay, Jack, let Cha ride with you in Magician’s.”
Jack was stunned after hearing this; the fact that the robot could cry reminded him of the horror movies he had watched as a child.
"Vito, why don't you let it sit with you?"
“I made that car a surprise for Liying. It’s covered in engine oil and sand. Wouldn’t it be dirty for me to sit in the passenger seat?”
Jack was speechless, and he gestured with his chin towards Little Cha.
"Sigh, get in the car."
"Little Cha doesn't want to sit with that idiot who's trying to suffocate the robot."
"Take a seat if you want, get out if you don't. My car is for my girlfriend. Young man, you think you're worthy to ride in my car?"
Little Cha wanted to argue, but seeing Vito clench his fists again, he had no choice but to get into the car with Jack.
"Little Cha, who did you just call an idiot?"
Chapter 76 Kill the Messenger
Back in the beautiful and vibrant city of Night, Vito lit a cigarette to dispel the lingering stench.
Several cars stopped at the gunboat terminal. Vito slowed down and sent a message to Jack, asking him to prepare the magician's Trinity heavy machine gun.
Vito's prosthetic eye swept over a few passersby dressed as thugs. They appeared to be doing nothing on the street, but in reality, they were all staring intently at the children's guns.
Vito parked the car, got in the scooter, and went inside.
Suddenly, a dozen or so people appeared from all around, each equipped with a Shingen Wisdom rifle. The few idle thugs also displayed a competence that did not match their attire, drawing their Kenshin pistols and approaching.
"What? Arasaka's stock hit the daily limit down? So you corporate dogs are out here pretending to be thugs on the street?"
Vito remained completely calm; he recognized these people as Agent Arasaka at a glance.
At that moment, an Arasaka agent who looked like a leader stepped forward and spoke to Vito.
“Vito, leader of the mercenary squad of the afterlife, we have all your information. Since you recognize us as people from the Arasaka Company, you should know what you have to say.”
Vito snapped his fingers.
The company's dog boss sneered.
"Don't waste your energy, our hackers have already shut down your turret, you can't open it."
"Oh."
Vito snapped his fingers three more times.
The mechanical sound started.
The machine gun turrets were launched.
"Sorry, forced voice control is enabled. My code is above yours."
The company's boss looked grim. He couldn't believe that in 2076, someone would still be using such outdated methods.
Sometimes, it doesn't matter if things are a bit old. Grandpa's old tricks are outdated, but they still work well against the Japanese.
Jack then drove his car to block Agent Arasaka's retreat.
"You're surrounded. Now, tell me, what does Arakasaka want with me?"
The company's dog boss gritted his teeth and spoke.
“We know you’re connected to the cube-headed guy. If you cooperate with us, Arasaka will give you unexpected rewards! You’d better…”
"Stop arguing, transfer the money, and I'll tell you all the information about Square Head."
The company's dog boss was stunned. He hadn't expected Vito to betray Square Head so readily, and he secretly cursed him in his heart.
"These marginal scum have no honor whatsoever."
He thought this to himself, but on the surface he nodded, looking satisfied.
"Very well, but how do I know if your information is true or false?"
"Stop talking nonsense and transfer the money. I don't have time to deal with your messy affairs in Arasaka. The blockhead has a revolver and a Nine-Tails, and he has military-grade bulletproof subcutaneous armor. Am I right?"
Vito waved the euro around and casually pointed to Agent Arasaka next to the leader, the muzzle of the gun on the turret turning along with his hand.
"Unable to hack the turret. This turret is no longer under automatic control; it's entirely operated manually by that guy."
The hackers in the action team reported the situation to their leader.
“Okay, this is Arasaka’s money chip, but it’s encrypted. I know the password…”
Vito snatched the chip and began decrypting it. After a series of 7A, 55, and 1C decryptions, Vito transferred the money to the account.
“I don’t care what you’re talking about. The blockhead said his name is Solomon, but he didn’t say his last name. He bought the guns from me—one Malorian Overture and one Nine Tails.”
He's an agent of the new America, with close ties to military technology. The reason he's causing you trouble is supposedly because you beat him to a pulp on a train a few years ago, and now he's seeking revenge.
"That's all. Get out of here. I don't want the shop full of severed limbs; then I'll have to call someone to clean it up."
The leader got the information he wanted, and he was also very wary of Vito, so he ordered the squad to withdraw. They boarded the car one by one, and two minutes later, the whole street returned to silence.
Vito casually crushed the decrypted money chip and tossed it aside.
"Tch, Arasaka, you country bumpkin, you believe whatever you're told."
Jack and Cha got out of the car, carrying their guns, and walked into the parking lot.
"Who were those people just now?"
Vito put the euros into the holster.
"Arasaka's corporate dog, staying up all night, came to deliver money."
At this moment, another Villefort stopped at the port.
"Again? Looks like I can't slack off anymore. This is really bad luck."
Two women got out of the car, both wearing bespoke suits. One of them was Annie Cornwall, an old acquaintance of Vito's, whom they had rescued at the Fuji bar.
"Long time no see, Annie. Did you bow too much and your back hurt? Come in, lie down on the operating chair, let me take a look at you."
Anne gritted her teeth but remained silent, while the woman next to her praised her.
“Vito, you truly are a rapidly rising mercenary. Many people in the company’s operations team don’t have your abilities. To be honest, you’re wasting your talents as a mercenary. Join Arasaka.”
Vito gestured for Jack to take Little Cha to the warehouse.
"Did all of Arasaka's come to my place for a team-building event today? What should I call you? Valerie? Or V?"
Valerie smiled.
"V, just call me V. We've only had one encrypted call together. How did you recognize me?"
Vito's prosthetic eye scanned the surroundings for any remaining Arasaka agents, and he answered casually.
"Your voice is very distinctive, and I'm very sensitive to the aura of a sugar daddy. What brings you here in the middle of the night?"
Valerie waved to Anne, who walked up to Vito and handed him a chip.
Unlike V, Vito wasn't so clueless that he would wear any sunglasses he picked up off the street or stick any microchip in his head.
He inserted the chip into the device, and a piece of information appeared: the personal information and behavioral data of a woman named Kim Yeon.
"V, I don't have time to catch your mistress."
Valerie now understands why Anne said Vito was an infuriating person.
"She was transferred from the Arakawa Asia region, and she recently disappeared. Find her for me! The commission fee is very generous!"
