Hogwarts: I will not become the Dark Lord
#360 - Jerry, you are such a good buddy of mine!
Back at the Black family's old house, Jerry and Harry shared the good news with Sirius and the others who were anxiously waiting after returning with Mr. Weasley.
"I had a feeling!" Ron excitedly waved his fist in the air. "How could Dumbledore let you two get expelled from school!"
In the kitchen, Mrs. Weasley, Sirius, Lupin, and the others all believed that Jerry and Harry would not be expelled, but when the definite news arrived, everyone seemed to have a huge weight lifted from their hearts, feeling much lighter.
Sirius, hearing that the charges against Harry had been dropped, happily hugged him, while Mrs. Weasley gently wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes with her apron. Fred, George, and Ginny started dancing a dance they had never seen before, repeatedly chanting: "It's okay, it's okay, they're all okay!"
At that moment, Harry suddenly felt that this old house, which used to be dull, dark, and slightly gloomy, had become exceptionally warm. Even Kreacher, the Black family's house-elf who usually loved to sneer at them, looked a little more pleasing to him at this moment.
"Alright, everyone, I have to go now. There's an urgent case in Bethnal Green that I need to handle."
"Oh, Molly, I might be back later. I have to cover for Tonks." After briefly explaining Lucius Malfoy's situation to Sirius and the others, Mr. Weasley hurriedly left.
"Where's Hermione?" Jerry hadn't seen her since returning from the Ministry of Magic.
"She seems to be resting in the room upstairs. I'll go call her!" Ginny said.
"No need, Ginny, I'll go up and change my clothes anyway," Jerry said, standing up.
Upstairs in Jerry's room, Hermione was curled up on Jerry's bed, her hair scattered in chestnut-colored swirls, tightly hugging Jerry's pillow.
Seeing this, Jerry tiptoed to the bedside and carefully draped the robe he had just taken off over her, afraid of waking her up.
Contrary to his wishes, as soon as Jerry approached, Hermione suddenly opened her eyes, still misty with sleep.
"Jerry? You're back!"
"What did the Ministry of Magic say? Will you be expelled from Hogwarts?" Hermione's voice trailed off with a nasal tone from sleep, her face pale, as if she would faint at any moment.
"Don't worry, everything went smoothly," Jerry said with a relaxed shrug. "Well, it looks like I'll have to hurry up and finish my summer homework in the next few days!"
"That's great!" Hermione's tense spine suddenly relaxed, and she jumped up barefoot. Jerry staggered and caught her warm body.
"Okay, come down now!" Jerry said, spinning the girl in the air before returning to the bed, putting her down, and lying down next to Hermione.
As Jerry put his arm around the back of Hermione's neck, the girl spontaneously adjusted to the most comfortable position.
"If you're sleepy, just keep sleeping! I'm not going anywhere, I'll stay here with you!"
"Mmm…" Hermione yawned again, snuggling into his arms, the rustling of her hair against the boy's shirt. It was so good to see Jerry as the first thing she saw after waking up!
In the following days, Harry's mental state became more and more full. Although the scar on his forehead would still occasionally send sharp pain, he at least didn't have to worry about school anymore.
However, Sirius became more silent than before, and a melancholy atmosphere enveloped him. He even spoke to Harry less and less, choosing to lock himself in his room, accompanied only by the Hippogriff Buckbeak.
Sirius knew very well that Harry belonged at Hogwarts, not trapped with him in this dark old house.
… …
"If you're really bored, help me write my Potions homework!" Jerry stopped writing with his quill, squinting at Hermione beside him.
"That won't do, do your own homework!" Hermione said, resting her chin in her hands, looking at her boyfriend with a smile. "If Professor Snape finds out that I helped you write your Potions homework, he will definitely give you detention!"
"Letters from Hogwarts," Hermione handed one of the envelopes to Jerry. "Presumably, it's this year's book list."
"We usually receive them earlier at this time of year."
Jerry opened the envelope and took out two pieces of parchment: one was a routine reminder of the start of school, informing him to return to school on September 1; the other listed the book list for the new school year.
"Only two new books," he glanced at the list. "'Standard Book of Spells, Grade 5' and 'Magical Defense Theory'."
"What's this?" Hermione took out the parchment from her envelope, and a red and gold badge slipped out of the envelope. "Oh my gosh! Jerry, it's a prefect's badge! I've become a Gryffindor prefect!"
"Congratulations, Hermione!" Jerry said with a smile.
"I have to write to Mom and Dad quickly, they will be so proud of me!" Hermione was so excited that she almost jumped up. "Jerry, let me borrow Tom for a moment!"
"Use Hedwig or another owl instead!" Jerry shook his head. "Tom is too conspicuous."
"Oh, Jerry, look at your envelope, you must be a prefect too!" Hermione grabbed Jerry's envelope and turned it upside down, but did not find the badge. "Did you accidentally drop it on the ground just now? Look for it!"
"Don't look for it, Hermione," Jerry said calmly. "There's no badge, I'm not the Slytherin prefect."
"Ah?" Hermione stood frozen in astonishment. "How could that be? Is there a student at Slytherin, no, at Hogwarts, more outstanding than you?"
"Someone approached me at the end of last semester," Jerry explained. "But I refused. I'm not someone who craves power!"
Hermione was speechless for a moment, not knowing how to respond. "Jerry, you really don't seem like a Slytherin at all!"
Jerry smiled slightly. That was because he didn't need to rely on such things at all. His words were commands. Whether they were older or younger, all Slytherin students had to listen and obey, including the person wearing this badge.
There was a burst of commotion from downstairs. Jerry and Hermione followed the sound and saw George throwing a red and gold prefect's badge into Ron's arms.
"Look who it is, the two prefects upstairs have come down!" George said loudly when he saw Jerry and Hermione. "Little Ronny, like you, has also become a prefect!"
They assumed Jerry was a prefect too.
"Mom was so happy that she got confused. She just said that every son in the family is a prefect," George pouted, pretending to be jealous. "Doesn't that make Fred and me the sons of the neighbors next door?"
Mrs. Weasley pushed aside the giggling twins and embraced Ron tightly, her face full of affection. "Your father will be so thrilled when he gets back! Ron, your father and I are so proud of you!"
Fred and George rolled their eyes behind their mother's back, making exaggerated gagging noises.
"Now, my darling, what kind of present would you like? You deserve a reward!" Mrs. Weasley's eyes were full of tenderness. "How about a new dress robe?"
"Or, a brand-new cauldron would be good too," she added.
Ron's eyes sparkled with anticipation: "Mum, could I get a brand-new broom?"
Mrs. Weasley's smile faltered slightly; a new broom wasn't cheap.
"It doesn't have to be a really good one!" Ron said quickly. "Just new, Mum."
"Of course, then I'd better get going," Mrs. Weasley agreed happily, taking the booklist from Ron. "Ginny, give me your booklists too, and I'll get all the books you need." With that, she kissed Ron on the cheek and hurried out.
Fred and George exchanged glances, a mischievous look on their faces.
"We wouldn't kiss you, Ron. You wouldn't mind, would you?" Fred asked in an exaggeratedly worried tone.
"Oh, shut up!" Ron said, his face red, glaring at them angrily.
Fred chuckled. "Or what? Are you going to give us detention? George, we'd better watch out in the future; little Ronnie's a prefect now, he's really powerful!"
"Where are your prefect badges, why don't you put them on and show them off to us?" George said to Jerry with a grin.
"Jerry, Hermione, congratulations to you both!"
Harry felt a mix of emotions, a faint sense of loss mixed with a little resentment quietly spreading. Hermione, Jerry, and even Ron had become prefects, but not him. Was he weaker than them?
When it came to studying, he admitted he couldn't compare to Jerry and Hermione, but Ron was about the same as him.
What about outside of studying? Like Quidditch, he'd defeated Slytherin on the field, and in the Triwizard Tournament, he was the champion.
He had contributed to Hogwarts, bled for Gryffindor, and been injured.
At the end of last semester, he was the one who escaped from Voldemort and brought back the important news of his resurrection!
Weren't these enough to be considered when selecting prefects?
"Don't get me wrong, Hermione's a prefect, but I'm not!" Jerry said, waving his hand.
"What?" Everyone in the hall looked blank. Slytherin's Jerry wasn't a prefect? Had he been made Head Boy directly?
Dumbledore's grandson, was his rate of progress that fast?
"Jerry, you're not kidding, are you?" Harry's voice suddenly rose a little, the previous disappointment and jealousy seemed to have been blown away by a gust of wind.
He suddenly felt that not being a prefect wasn't a big deal!
"Is it strange that I'm not a prefect?" Jerry smiled slightly, his face full of nonchalance.
"No, it's not strange." Harry put his arm around Jerry's shoulder. He really was his good buddy. He had Jerry to be with him when he was accused, and now he had Jerry to be with him when he didn't become a prefect.
Hermione pushed Harry away forcefully, stood between the two, and began to explain for Jerry.
"Jerry, you actually turned down the position of prefect?" George stared wide-eyed, looking at Jerry in disbelief. "But, well done! Only a fool would want to be a prefect!"
"Who's a fool?" Hermione glared at George, who had put his arm around Jerry's shoulder from the other side, and hugged Jerry's arm a little angrily. Jerry, you must not go astray!
"Wait a minute," Harry said belatedly, "Jerry, if you're not the Slytherin prefect, then who is?"
Could it be that piece of dog dung, Malfoy? Harry suddenly thought of a possibility that was even more difficult to accept. Impossible, absolutely impossible! How could that arrogant Malfoy be a prefect!
A fix, absolutely a fix! Snape must have received a gift from Malfoy again!
…
At about six o'clock, Mrs. Weasley returned laden with goods.
She brought back a large pile of heavy books from Diagon Alley, and a long, cylindrical object tightly wrapped in thick brown paper.
Ron's gaze was instantly drawn to it, and a low moan of longing escaped his throat. He eagerly took the gift from his mother's hand.
"Don't be in such a hurry to unwrap it, it's almost dinner time, go down and eat dinner first," Mrs. Weasley instructed, but no sooner had she disappeared around the corner of the stairs than Ron couldn't restrain himself, impatiently tearing open the wrapping paper and taking out his new broom, his face beaming with uncontrollable joy.
Downstairs in the kitchen, Mrs. Weasley was busy setting the table, a bright red celebratory banner hanging above the lavishly set table.
Her smile was so radiant; no one had seen her so happy throughout the entire holiday.
"Your father and Bill are on their way back, Ron. I've already sent them owls, and they're overjoyed." Mrs. Weasley was still unable to hide her excitement, while Fred and George rolled their eyes dismissively.
Jerry poured Hermione a glass of butterbeer to congratulate her on becoming a prefect. At this moment, Mad-Eye Moody also walked into the kitchen with heavy steps.
"Molly, there's a Boggart hiding in the desk in the living room, do you want me to go up and get rid of it for you?" Moody asked.
"No need, Moody, I'll take care of it myself after dinner," Mrs. Weasley replied with a smile. "Would you like some wine? We're celebrating!"
"Molly, be careful, don't let Jerry come into contact with the Boggart," Lupin reminded her.
"Jerry?" Mrs. Weasley and Moody looked at Lupin in confusion.
Lupin smiled and began to recount the situation when Jerry encountered the Boggart when he was teaching at Hogwarts. He was so frightened at the time that several students were sent to the hospital wing.
"So, kid, what exactly are you afraid of?" Moody asked curiously.
"Actually, I don't know either, maybe I'm a bit special, Mr. Moody!" Jerry said with a smile, then took a sip of the butterbeer from his glass on the table.
"However, Professor Lupin, I don't think that kind of situation will happen again!"
The black mist that devoured the magic of wizards had been completely mastered by him and turned into his power.
Moody's magical eye stared at Jerry, rolling around, and after looking for a long time without seeing any problems, he had to give up and sit down at the table.
