Hogwarts: I will not become the Dark Lord
#195 - Professor Trelawney's Prophecy 1
“Is this it?” Hermione leaned against the stair railing, panting heavily, a hint of exhaustion in her voice. After going back in time twice and shuttling between different classrooms, Hermione's condition had clearly deteriorated.
The two climbed the tower, ascending one steep staircase after another, the feeling of dizziness growing stronger.
“It should be!” Jerry, pulling the already staggering Hermione, stepped onto the last few steps and arrived at a narrow platform. Most of the students had already gathered there, but apart from the students, there was nothing else on the platform.
“Jerry, Hermione, where have you been? We just came out of the Great Hall and you two disappeared!” Harry asked curiously, noticing Hermione's tired appearance after Jerry appeared with her.
“We went to the library. Or… how about we invite you next time?”
“No need!” Harry refused Jerry's invitation without hesitation. Unless it was to prepare for the final exams, they usually didn't have the bad habit of going to the library after meals!
“Is this the Divination classroom?” Hermione looked around, a puzzled expression on her face. “Did we come to the wrong place?”
Jerry gently patted Hermione on the shoulder, his finger pointing to the ceiling, where there was a round trapdoor with a brass plaque embedded in it, inscribed with a line of text.
“Sybill Trelawney, Divination Professor,” Hermione read softly, frowning slightly. “But how do we get up there?”
Just then, as if in response to Hermione's question, the trapdoor suddenly opened slowly, and a gleaming silver ladder extended from it, landing steadily at their feet.
The platform, which had been bustling with discussion, instantly fell silent, and everyone's eyes focused on the suddenly appearing silver ladder.
Everyone stepped onto the silver ladder one by one and finally arrived at the Divination classroom.
“This is simply the most… strangest classroom I've ever seen!” Hermione muttered softly, frowning, as soon as she entered the Divination classroom.
Jerry looked around and nodded, agreeing with Hermione completely.
This room was less like a classroom and more like a bizarre fusion of an attic and an old-fashioned tea room.
There were at least twenty small round tables in the classroom, taking up most of the space, each surrounded by chintz armchairs and soft, bulging cushions.
The curtains were drawn, and many of the lamps were covered with dark red shades, casting a hazy red glow throughout the room, creating a mysterious atmosphere.
Despite the unique decor, the temperature in the classroom was unbearable. As soon as they stepped inside, everyone felt a wave of heat. The fire under the mantelpiece was burning vigorously, and above the flames, a huge copper teapot emitted a strong, nauseating aroma.
Numerous shelves were neatly arranged on the circular walls, piled with all sorts of items. Dirty quills, short candle stubs, and tattered playing cards were crammed together haphazardly. Countless shimmering silver crystal balls were stacked together, like miniature galaxies.
Just as everyone was feeling confused and lost, a soft, indistinct voice suddenly came from the shadows.
“Welcome, everyone,” the voice said slowly, “it is a pleasure to meet you in the material world.”
As the voice faded, Professor Trelawney emerged from the darkness and stepped into the firelight.
Trelawney was thin, draped in a light, transparent shawl covered with glittering metal flakes. A pair of enormous spectacles magnified her eyes several times, making her look particularly strange, giving the first impression of a huge, glittering insect.
Her slender neck was adorned with all sorts of beads and chains, and her arms and hands were covered with intricate bracelets and rings. As she moved around the classroom, the various ornaments on her body swayed gently, producing a crisp clinking sound.
“Please, sit down, my children,” Professor Trelawney said softly, and the students scrambled to find seats, some awkwardly climbing into armchairs, others carefully collapsing onto cushions.
Jerry and Hermione quickly found a seat near the front and sat down, while Harry, Ron, and Neville sat around a small round table next to them.
“Welcome to the Divination classroom,” Professor Trelawney said, sitting in a rocking chair in front of the fireplace, her voice hoarse and mysterious. “I am Professor Trelawney, perhaps a new face to you, but it is not surprising that you have not seen me at school, for I have found that frequenting the bustling campus can cause some interference to my keen inner eye.”
“Now, since you have chosen Divination, this extremely profound magical art, I must tell you frankly before class that if you lack that innate insight, then I am afraid I cannot offer you much help. After all, in this field, the guidance that books can give you is indeed very limited.”
Hermione, hearing Professor Trelawney say that books were of limited help in Divination, couldn't help but look astonished and was very skeptical of what Professor Trelawney said. The professor in Arithmancy class didn't say that.
Professor Trelawney continued, “Many wizards, although they have outstanding talents in other fields, such as mastering powerful magic and spells, cannot uncover the mysteries of the future. This is because seeing through the future requires a special, innate talent.” As she spoke, she scanned each of the students present with her huge, glittering eyes, as if searching for those wizards with potential talent.
Her gaze lingered on each student's face for a moment, making everyone feel a kind of invisible pressure. A tense and mysterious atmosphere pervaded the classroom, and everyone hoped that they could be the lucky one chosen by the professor.
“You, child,” Professor Trelawney suddenly turned to Neville, who was startled and almost fell off his cushion. “How is your grandmother's health?”
Neville tried to remain calm, answering with a slightly trembling voice, “I think she should be fine.”
“Child, if I were you, I wouldn't be so sure.” Professor Trelawney smiled slightly, and in the firelight, her long emerald earrings sparkled with a mysterious light, causing Neville to gasp.
“In this semester, we will learn the basic methods of divination. In the first semester, we will focus on deciphering the secrets of tea leaves. And in the second semester, we will begin to study palmistry. Oh, yes,” she suddenly changed the subject, looking at Parvati Patil, “dear, I must warn you to be especially wary of a red-haired man.”
Hearing this, Parvati's face changed slightly, and she immediately looked nervously at Ron, who was sitting behind her.
Afterwards, Parvati hurriedly moved her chair away a little, trying to keep as much distance as possible from Ron.
