Green Monster Epic
#54 - think
The matter of snatching female goblins quickly came to an end. Although everyone talked tough, when it came to the actual snatching, they couldn't help but follow the gap in their respective strengths, completing the selection in an orderly manner.
Along the way, besides trying to build relationships with the humans, Allen didn't neglect the flower snake and the others. If he didn't find a way to wear down the energy of these guys he brought with him, Allen couldn't guarantee what they might do. In the past, the reason everyone in the tribe rarely moved around was due to the lack of food and the need to conserve energy. But since Allen came out, everyone had been eating their fill every day, even if the food wasn't necessarily refined.
This meant that even though everyone had been on the road, they hadn't felt too tired, mostly because they were accommodating the frail human's pace.
Allen naturally knew everyone's physical capabilities, so after communicating with Regis and accepting his mercenary experience, he didn't hold back in training these energetic fellows. Perhaps Allen and his people didn't have the inheritance to advance their professions, but Regis had told Allen that high-intensity training for the warriors could also improve their basic professional strength, and in the future, they might be able to advance independently like Allen.
Since the tribe currently had no way to specifically help the tribesmen advance, then following Regis's method, even a dead one, could at least improve the tribesmen's strength, right?
With this idea in mind, Allen passed on the training methods he had previously taught Stone, as well as the training methods he had learned from Regis, to Dasha and the others. In order to give the tribesmen more effective training, Allen even found a stonemason in Thornsburg and asked him to carve several 200-pound barbells, which were placed with the carts of grain. Whenever there was a chance, Allen would take them out and have Flower Snake and the others lift them for exercise.
These devices were some of the few useful gains Allen had learned from his uncontrollable dreams. Although the scenes in this damned dream were full of magical places, without sound, even if Allen learned lip reading, he couldn't completely guess what the humans in the scenes were saying, nor could he understand the square words in the dream.
Over time, Allen got used to these dreams. He rarely felt the urge to explore them, and he was too lazy to discuss them with others, only occasionally pondering the uses of the tools in the dream scenes.
"Philip, how can I make these guys listen to me and not desert when the battle turns unfavorable?"
Throughout this journey with Regis and his team, Allen most admired their ability to never flee, even when at a disadvantage. He had lived in the Green Field Tribe for 18 years and was very familiar with the fighting style of the tribesmen around him. Before becoming the tribe leader, he had even planned to sneak away at the slightest hint of danger.
Now that he finally had a smart guy by his side, Allen naturally threw this long-unresolved problem to Philip, the former nobleman of the human kingdom.
"…"
Philip had to rack his brains every day to recall the knowledge he had learned in the manor, as Allen's questions became increasingly profound. Now that he thought about it, he was too naughty at the time, and he couldn't remember much of the knowledge. Naturally, it was difficult for him to answer when facing Allen now. For example, he seemed to have never explored this question when he lived in the manor, so he could only give the other party an unconfident answer based on his own understanding.
"Master, I'm not very clear about this issue, but when I controlled more than a hundred servants in Rose Manor, if they dared not listen, I would have people whip them or threaten their families, and they would be obedient."
"Of course, the best way to deal with powerful warriors is to reward them with rich spoils of war, such as money, women, and jewelry. In short, if you want people to work for you, they always have to have something to strive for, otherwise no one will foolishly serve you."
When Philip gave this answer, he also knew that it was useless to Allen. These ten or so hobgoblins had no personal belongings except for the weapons and leather armor on their bodies. They didn't even have a silver coin. Now, their behavior of snatching spouses in front of many slaves filled Philip's heart with despair. What kind of uncivilized place were they going to?
If it weren't for Allen's thirst for knowledge and the fact that he hadn't been overly violent towards the slaves, which made Philip feel a little more at ease, he would have risked beheading to escape from this team.
In order to live longer and have more opportunities to escape, Philip would not hide his talents too much, but would try his best to improve Allen's cultural knowledge.
"Whipping? These guys have thick skin and flesh. What's the use? When it comes to the battlefield, they will definitely not turn back when they should run away."
"Family? These guys don't even have long-term spouses. The females probably can't even tell who the cubs born in the tribe belong to, let alone these stupid guys. Besides venting their animal desires on the females when they are impulsive, they rarely even glance at the females on weekdays."
"As for money, you'll know when you get to our wilderness that it's a useless thing. They would嫌 even嫌 useless to let the cubs play with it."
Allen frowned, dissatisfied with Philip's answer. However, he didn't make things too difficult for the other party. After visiting Thornsburg and Thunder Town, he knew that the powerful tribes outside had a completely different living environment from their tribe. The answer given by the other party could not solve the tribe's predicament, but it did not mean that it was wrong, just that the customs were different.
"However, if we replace money with food, it might have some effect."
After a fruitless exchange, Allen wasn't too anxious. After all, the tribesmen had inherited this bad habit for many generations. If there were any good solutions, the previous dozens of tribe leaders would have won people's hearts long ago, and they wouldn't have continued to let the tribesmen continue in their current state. Moreover, he had gained something from this trip. After seeing the ruling methods of several powerful forces outside, although he didn't fully understand the reasons, he could imitate them in the tribe and see what the effect would be, right?
