Let's talk briefly

This chapter can be considered the author's detailed response to the problems that have arisen in the book so far.

Chapters 1, 9, and 10 show how those pirates were let go.

The protagonist taught them a lesson many times while they were on the ship. The reason he didn't kill them was because he needed them to steer the ship. When he left, he took all their money and food. Even if the protagonist hadn't killed them, they wouldn't have had a chance to survive at sea. The author may not have made this clear, but he's definitely not a saint.

Secondly, in chapters 8 and 9, no trouble was caused to the person who spread rumors.

The people on the island are all weak; as long as they can protect themselves, even good people can do bad things. They are a pitiful and pathetic bunch. The protagonist sees the instigators as the same way, and seeing them only strengthens his resolve to become stronger.
